Yeah I agree in this performance there's nothing out of this world technically, alot of advanced drummers could probably play this easily, but with Mike it's about the energy and style that makes him such a great drummer.

Mike Portnoy hands down is the greatest live drummer to ever live.. always has the best sounds out of his kits and cymbals and seems to always know the perfect touches for songs . That and he’s so great with the audiences .

There were many greats before Mike, but he is now the greatest of our time and for a long time to come!

People criticize his playing as being simple. It's the way he plays his music that is anything but simple. He's a pro, he makes it look easy, because its just natural for him. Also, anyone can cover a song written by a great drummer, but its writing like one that earns you respect and credibility. Not because you do DT covers on KZfaq.

I agree. And what people miss is that music isn't all about being hard to play. Just because he was in DT people expect him to be all over the place with time signatures, polyrhytms and whatnot. Just let the man play whatever he wants, and likes!

I met him at a drum clinic in YOnkers New York when i was 13(30now) Didnt know who he was or who DT was but my dad was like hey lets go check this guy out. I was so floored by the stuff he did bc at that time nothing i grew up listening to sounded like the Awake album. Changed my whole drumming world after that. Since then im a huge fan he's m fav drummer. I have listened to the new DT album once all the way through and i cant listen to it again,i agree 100% with what you said, its not the same

mike portnoy is my #1 favorite drummer u cant match his style and and they way he plays like its nothing for him. i can only hope that i can be as great as him one day.

If you realise, Mike plays first with his secondary hi hats and then, when the guitar solo starts again, he plays with his main hi hats....... so actually, is another shoot of the song, and not a problem with the video. Greetings!
