Omg so beautiful. Tears. Thank you mama for sharing this with me. Hard to believe that Cyndi held my hand and sang True Colors to me when I was 9 years old at her Rosemont Horizon show with Eddie Money opening up for her. We had 3rd row, my father and I. He surprised me with the tickets one day soon after I got on the honor roll and he bought me a transistor radio cassette player with Cyndi’s SHE BOP. There was a space in the front row and my dad let me hop into it and soon after Cyndi was there.

God how I can relate to this song. Middle child, first born son, and gay. I have an older sister and younger brother, both straight. Thankfully my family accepted me for me. Learned a lot from my dad. Still to this day I can drop a transmission out of a car, repair it and put it back in. Thank you Dad and Cindi for everything you have done for me and every one around me and the world. Bless you both.

Can I just say, Steve Pateman, the real Charlie Price deserves way more credit??? Even though Broadway literally profited off his entire existence and story, he didn’t get a single penny from them. Sadly, unlike the musical, his shoe factory ended up going out of business so he works as a fireman now 😞 He’s a super nice guy too. Even when his factory ran out of business, he made sure his employees were able to find new jobs. However the Broadway musical doesn’t give him any credit or profits for using life his story as a stage show. The only thing they gave him (which they gave begrudgingly) was a Broadway ticket but he couldn’t even afford to go because he didn’t have enough money for a flight and hotel. They won’t let him sell his book at the theaters either nor do they really discuss or credit to the origin and backstory of him and the Northampton factory workers in the playbill. It’s awful that the Broadway musical doesn’t give him enough credit or money for even though they make thousands off his life story. After years of being unnoticed, he finally came out and wrote a book about his life story (and profits go towards firefighters too, he’s such a sweet guy), but he still deserves WAYYY more credit than Broadway gives him, Help this guy out and learn his real story here. JUSTICE FOR STEVE!!!! You can buy his book here: [Boss in Boots: the Real Charlie Price](www.bossinboots.co.uk/) Here are more articles too where you learn about his story: Northampton Chronicle: www.google.com/amp/s/www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/real-story-behind-kinky-boots-will-surprise-you-says-northamptonshire-inspiration-film-and-stage-show-998113%3Famp Express: www.express.co.uk/life-style/life/600025/Kinky-boots-factory-WJ-Brookes/amp BBC: www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-22940451 Fire Bridgades Union: www.fbu.org.uk/blog/you-cant-put-label-anybody #broadway #kinkyboots

Cindy, you rock! this song is so fitting to this week's Supreme Court ruling for every person's right to marriage. My husband and I were practically sobbing when Billy Porter sang this song in Broadway. We would watch this musical again - so beautifully written and the songs were just plain heartfelt. Thank you Cindy for being a big part of the movement for people to be more tolerant and allowing.

Just so beautiful. This should be #1 on the radio. Shame on adult radio playing poorly written junk sang by pretty teens (instead of the gifted youth singers who aren't signed). Cyndi, you really showed you deserve that SONGWRITER HALL OF FAME award!!

When I was just a kid Everything I did, was to be like him Under my skin My father always thought If I was strong and fought Not like some albatross, id begin To fit in Look at me powerless and holding my breath Trying hard to repress what scared him to death It was not that easy to be his type of man To breathe freely was not in his plan And the best part of me Is what he wouldn't see I'm not my father's son I'm not the image of what he dreamed of With the strength of sparta and the patience of job Still couldn't be the one To echo what he'd done And mirror what was not in me So I jumped in my dreams and found an escape Maybe I went to extremes of leather and lace But the world seems brighter 6 inches off the ground And the air seemed lighter I was profound and I felt so proud Just to live out loud I'm not my father's son I'm not image of what he dreamed of With the strength of sparta and the patience of job Still couldn't be the one To echo what he'd done And mirror what was not In me The endless story of expectations wiring inside my mind Wore me down I came to a realization and i found a way to turn it around To see That I could just be me I'm not my father's son I'm not the image of what he dreamed of With the strength of sparta and the patience of job Still couldn't be the one To echo what he'd done And mirror what was not in me
