It won’t be fair to put this keyboard up against the Titans like Roland and Yamaha. It’s not for that and is not aiming at that market. It’s purely a teaching instrument with a few extra toys. I also understand it’s going to cost around 3000. I’d like one to play with here in the UK.

I think the sounds that I heard seemed kind of cheap, not very detailed. And I question the choice of a subcompact low profile hammer action keyboard in a digital piano frame where portability isn't a priority. The MIDI note graphics reminded me of the first generation of that stuff. It seems like it could make it easy for people to learn what notes to play for songs that are in the database. I just saw a video for a programmable LED light strip that overlays an existing keyboard... keysnake, or something like that? That one seems less effective at showing note duration, and doesn't let you anticipate notes, like this one does... and I think that's a good advantage of a screen such as this, vs an LED strip. The sounds seem like plastic, for the price you pay. That probably doesn't help... what I mean is, they sound like older rompler tech where they only had storage space for very small samples, so they used very clever looping of those samples in order to create sustained notes... and they stretched samples over too many keys instead of one or more (velocity switching, round robin) samples per key. And when it was VA instead of samples (IOW, DSP generated synth sounds), there wasn't much subtle movement or differences between individual voices... for example on the Jump patch, or even on the sync patch. I'm not so much the target demographic here... I'm not a piano player, but I'm proficient enough to figure out what to do from a lead sheet, and I can translate between a smaller screen MIDI waterfall to my digital piano without much frustration. Maybe the likely buyers will like the subcompact keyboard design (I can't judge it from appearances) and will like the sounds. On my digital piano, Yamaha used good piano, EP and organ sounds, but then took the "extra" sounds from the MX line, and those sounds aren't quite as detailed. With those types of sounds, I think that's fine for the price I paid. For 2.5x that price (i.e. the price I saw for your system), I'd at least hope for more detailed "primary" sounds. I can't judge the overall value, because we didn't see that much of the software functionality, AFAICT. The biggest part of an arranger keyboard's cost is its programming - all those rhythm and accompaniment preset patterns, all of the variations and so on - so I assume the big screen here suggests quite a bit of screen based functionality, and if that matches a customer's needs, then it could be worth it to them. That's my opinion.

Filling the void with an expensive toy won't give an unmotivated person motivation once the honeymoon period is over. It'll gather dust and they'll move onto the next toy until silicone chips are available that when implanted allow instant masterdom of all.

While it looks like a brilliant idea at first, I'm sure this will go nowhere. Looking at the depth of the key bed the action on this must be similar to a toy piano. One large touchscreen is only convenient for certain tasks, physical buttons are more convenient for other tasks. It won't replace a real teacher as a learning tool, learning how to playing piano is more than knowing which key to press in what order, a kid learning just from a screen would pick up tons of bad habits that will take years to correct later. All it can be used for is for entertainment and gamification of playing a piano, which is not a bad thing, but for a toy this won't be affordable enough to get any adoption. Now a separated huge touch screen that can be connected via midi to any keyboard that contains some smart and useful utilities might work, but you have to create a proper DAW level software that takes advantage of this screen format, which takes years of development to get it right. And the price of this at the end (I assume 90% of the current price comes from the screen so it won't be any cheaper as standalone) probably will still be too expensive to what it can offer.

As much as I always wanted to easily learn the piano, not sure I can drop $3000 for that . . .
