Had I known just how heavy the Kommoda is before buying it i probably would not have gone for it. I am a 5’1” 120 pound old lady. However, I bought it and I do love it. I figure I’ll get stronger the more I use it.

Great review and a lot of valid issues, that you don't think about...until you own it. Rear wheel punctures...yes I experienced that and slime tubes are a god send.

Great video, thanks. I have an xf900, and I had the same problem with flat tyres, especially the back tyre. I have now filled them with gloop and not had a problem since. I've done about 750 miles on my 900 so far, I did by a second battery and a spare battery housing, which I keep on the rear luggage rack, it gives me around 50 to 60 miles with both. Biggest problem I've had was over heated brakes on long down hills. I've now fitted 203mm discs, which seems to have eradicated the dreaded brake fade. All the said, I love the bike, it goes every where, I spend as much time on bridleways and green lanes as I do on roads 😊

Hi Simon, Thanks for watching. I haven’t had any issues with brake fade yet. I suspect your bike may be a bit heavier? The main thing I’m not keen on is the gear ratios. Low isn’t low enough and high is high enough. Thinking of investing in a new freewheel to change the gearing. Also, I can’t stop wondering how powerful it would be with another motor on the front!

Love this review. So much more honest than the usual ‘paid’ reviews on this bike. Also, if I may add something....If you intend to transport this on a heavy duty rack, bear in mind that those fat tyres may be too wide for the channels.

Regarding flats, you can patch a tube without removing wheel. Also, in the thorny desert where I ride, I won't roll an inch without sealant in my tubes. I probably get 5-20 thorns in my tires every ride but ride for years without having to mess with flats.
@Everything_E-Bike
@Everything_E-Bike Жыл бұрын
Yep. Good tip. I’ve gone with the sealant now. I didn’t even know it was a thing before. I suppose you could patch the tube without removing the wheel. However, the smaller the wheel and the fatter the tyre the more difficult it becomes. I’d definitely do it in my normal bike but the rear wheel on the 20inch fat tyre e-bikes would be too tricky for me.

I always used Ready Spare aerosol on my sons bike tyres just screw the can on and press the button, also good for inflating footballs with a football needle. If I am using patches to repair a puncture I use super glue these days on the patches its a lot quicker

As they actually have suspension, one wonders if it would eventually be a good idea to equip these bikes with modern-day solid tyres.

Re: difficulty of transporting the bike, in the UK ETA offers reasonably priced get-you-home insurance for cyclists with their bike. After I got a non-folding ebike I bought the insurance and used it last autumn after getting a thorn puncture from a recently cut hedge. A large taxi van took me the 30 miles home, no problem. ETA is the name.

Thanks for the video. Don’t forget to slime your inner tubes. Also recommended to put tire anti puncture protection inside. All will help against what you’ve talked about here. Have a look bike handlebar stands also. Help a little with e-bikes when turned upside down. Batteries will always eventually go bad. 3 or 4 years you’ll no doubt change to a new bike anyways. 😜

Totally agree with you on the heaviness of these bikes. They look great and ride well, but as soon as you try manoeuvring them at low speed or just moving them without the power, they can be a real pain. When I go out on my eBike ( a larger version of a mate x ) and you feel like you’ve been wrestling a bear all day long. I’ve actually moved away from these types of big heavy ebikes and go for smaller 48/52v lighter versions. Much better now and easy to transport. I’m also using battery packs and swapping between bikes by having a standard xt60 connector. One or two of these batteries can then be used on most of my ebikes. More generic batteries are cheaper and easier to swap about. 👍
@Everything_E-Bike
@Everything_E-Bike Жыл бұрын
Your idea on batteries is really interesting. I note that this bike has an xt60 connector so I could do the same. Other thoughts have crossed my mind… What’s the max voltage and power that the speed controller could take? I know they nearly always have margins on them. Also, I bet the motor could take more power… I’d love to try some of this stuff out but these bikes are so expensive I can’t risk ruining them.

Plenty of slime in both tyres. And carry a pump with you. Like you I found out the hard way 😱. No more problems, after a couple of flat tyres with slime in . I pumped them up and have not lost any pressure since. I have thought about fitting tpms to my bike , just to monitor the pressure. I haven't yet though. I haven't needed to remove the wheels since.😊

Easiest way to tell is by looking at the hub motor as it is coded and that is how British Police know if your bike has been modified to run faster than 15.5MPH on British roads.
@Everything_E-Bike
@Everything_E-Bike Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about that. The motor in the Kommoda is capable of 750w but the power output is limited electronically from the speed controller so it complies with UK law. The sticker on the motor says it’s 250w to reflect the fact that it’s limited. The police wouldn’t know it’s been derestricted unless they tested it.

These are sadly illegal on UK roads….even IF Plod is fooled by the 250w motor label…The law says maximum continuous output of 250w. These can pull more like 1000w under load…like uphill. Restricting the max assisted speed isn’t enough to keep you out of trouble, yet a heavy rider going uphill needs that power or you’ll end up walking. Stupid law.
@jamescorrigan2777

Valid points made. I would say the battery is well underpowered for the weight of this bike. It is only 48 volt 14amp hour. 56 volt 20 amp hour as a minimum should have been standard for a bike in this price range. The rear brake failed on me after 800 miles the front one after 850. That one leaked all the hydraulic fluid out which was very scary as i just managed to stop on the failing rear brake and yes it is grossly overpriced compared to the competition. The bike is sturdy, rides well and is very smooth on the road but it sure is not pleasant on country tracks. Overall verdict. Overpriced and low quality components in some areas. Footnote. I seem to have one of the slow ones you spoke of. No amount of on screen adjustment makes any odds. Top speed for a 175lbs guy is 25mph. peddling hard on gear seven. 23mph top speed on throttle with tyres at maximum 20psi pressure.

It’s sounds like you’ve had yours longer than I’ve had mine. I’m concerned to hear about your brake issues. I’ll keep an eye out for that. To be honest, I’ve been very satisfied with the performance. Interestingly, in contrast to you, I think it’s smooth and competent off road. In terms of price, I don’t have enough experience of other bikes to compare. I suspect this bike will rapidly become outclassed by newer models, but I think it’s reasonable value especially considering how well equipped it is.

I noted in another video there was a mention that a 48 volt battery was illegal ( am I thick or something) surely if the bike is ridden in a proper manner you get a longer life from your battery and more miles because your not working the batteries so hard. I drove trucks in my day unlike a car they were fitted with 24 volt batteries, no one ever said that's illegal ! Well that said my bike is legal 250watt motor 48volt battery and restricted to 15.5 mph bike weight 23kilo I've easily had 30 miles distance on pedal assist 1 though there are five to choose from .. take care wear a helmet we only get one life.😊

Great question! I can’t say say with any real certainty. I think the Ovia is the replacement model for the Kommoda. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kommoda disappears from Cyrusher as they sell their remaining inventory (that’s pure conjecture). The Ovia seems like a nice upgrade to the Kommoda in many areas. The main upgrades come in the form of A higher voltage battery, better peddle crank clearance and better gearing. However, it is significantly more expensive. Now could be a good time to snap a Kommoda at its lower price while you still can. If you’ve got the cash, maybe the Ovia is better bet.

love the komoda but the ovia has slightly better specs just less aggressive styling ( better looking headlight though ) but being on the heavier side of the scale and 6 foot 5 , i was thinking of getting a himiway big dog, its rated to pull a lot more weight like 300lbs and take a taller rider than the cyrusher which was my first choice ( based on looks ), but the himiway customer service department is like trying to talk to someone who has little to no grasp of the English language lol, much like the cyrusher that has a 750w motor which is limited to 250w to comply with the silly uk laws ( why they think its fine for a man over 180lb with arms twice as thick as most womens legs should be limited to the same 250w as a 100lb woman is beyond me lol ) but anyway yeah cycrusher clearly state on there website its a 750w motor you can take the 250w restriction off of, himiway however are not clear whether your getting a 750w you can de-restrict or 250w and when you ask there customer services for clarification which it is and if its 750 that's restricted they email with an answer that doesn't actually answer, that leaves you asking the same question again just in a different way, which leaves me thinking id go back to the cyrusher despite the himiway big dog being able to pull/hold more weight having a bigger battery and has 6 more torque than the cyrusher, and is CHEAPER ............ just an fyi for people the estimated milage of these machines is complete load of non sense, they base it on a 60kg person which isn't exactly an average person lol in the lowest peddle assist so they can say hey look we can do 50 miles when in reality for normal people who aren't the weight of your average supermodel, if your not supermodel weight and lugging a bit of shopping home your lucky to get half that and if your in a hilly area less than a 3rd of estimated range is most likely, so any one thinking of getting one for commuting take your total range and divide by 3 or end up like my mate stuck pushing it back cause it ran out of juice half way up a hill on his way home after a 12 hour shift lol

Hi Troy. The Big Dog looks cool. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the power on the Kommoda. I’m just over 6 foot 3, 200lbs and it has no problem hauling me around. In terms of the battery range, I think on flat road with ECO mode you would get 50 miles out of a battery. However, 20-30 miles is more realistic depending on your riding style. It’s probably best to think of the manufactures range claims in the same way you would fuel mileage on a new car… ambitious to near impossible!

@@Everything_E-Bike thansk for the reply dude, yeah I'm really torn at the moment between the bigdog and ovia actually, i prefer overall looks of the kommoda over both the others but the weight limit on the bigdog is a big selling point for me as is the 4 inch wide tyres ( i lug a lot of tools around with me sometimes and im not exactly trim haha and the roads near me are all but forgotton when it comes to Maintenance ) the ovia has a slightly better battery size than the kommoda, it just looks a bit more "feminine" than the kommoda, whats the response time with the power on your kommoda like, is it instant ? second you push the peddle or twist the throttle the power is there instantly or is there a slight delay before the power kicks in, and how does the rear suspension hold up over bumps ? ive found on a lot of bikes ive had the rear suspension isn't always up to the task of handling my bulk over the bumps
@Everything_E-Bike
@Everything_E-Bike Жыл бұрын
Obviously I can only speak for the Kommoda. I think the rear suspension is great. combined with the massive tyres, it really smooth. If you didn’t like the rear shock you could always upgrade it to an adjustable one. In terms of the responsiveness of the power, its pretty impressive. I’ve only used mine in pedal assist mode (not installed the throttle) and the power comes in after about a third of a rotation of the petals. If your in to top power mode, it’ll throw you back. In fact, I’ve found you have to be carful when negotiating tight bends. If you don’t drop the power mode the bike will accelerate hard if you start peddling in the corner, potentially throwing you off. I think it the torque that impresses most. I don’t think there’s much to call between the three bikes you’re talking about. I suggest you just go with the one that you like the most.

Chinese stuff. Complicated to get spare parts. Integrated batteries: Stupid system, which is bad for the customer and good for Cyrusher. These batteries wont be available when you need it, or they are available and price is half of a new bike. This is no good and not sustainable. Cyrusher and many other Chinese e-bike are one way bikes The Chinese want only sell as many as possible and they don't care about anything else. Pedal your old bike without motor - you never have problems, you are free!:-) Or do DIY, for example your battery fits and is better as in pre-built bikes.

They’re not perfect but I think they’re great. I have no regrets buying mine despite the issues I’ve raised here. You sound like someone who has never actually experienced one of these bikes.

Wow. That hasn’t been my experience. If its only been a year you’re under warranty. I haven’t had any issues getting parts under warranty.
