Also one of my concerns. I hope (for CZ, too) that the Bren 3 is "the end of the line" for quite some time as far as constructional differences go. Producing parts for the rifle makes no sense for third parties either, if CZ comes up with a different one every few years.

They imported a very small number of Bren 2s (no M) pistols which are pretty much exact copies of the military Bren 2 but in semi auto. Also, one other difference between the 2Ms and military patterns is the lack of lightening cuts in the 2Ms receiver, but the 2s still had those.

Couple other differences between the bren 2ms carbine and the pistols: Gas system length is significantly longer on the 16in. Its weirdly short on the 14.5 but about right for the 11in Gas port options are normal/ suppressed/off on the carbine, normal/adverse/off on the pistols.

Funny, how the "carbine" (16.5") has a longer barrel than the "rifles" (11" and 14.5"), just because CZ decided to use the carbine designation as it's meant for AR-15s (because of the "carbine length" barrel and gas system). 😁

Interesting video. I obtained a Bren 2 when CZ had their law enforcement purchase program right before they got rid of it. The weapon did not come with any type of back up sights. I was disappointed with the accuracy of this rifle compared to the other 556 rifles I own. The side folding stock also was not stable and wobbled a bunch. Found an after market shim kit that helped but was still not happy overall with this weapon at the price point. The brake is effective and the weapon is fun to shoot at CQB drills.

Here in Canada we got the original handguard in both short and long guise. Since the longest 16.5" version still doesn't fit our SBR cutoff (18.5" for NR centerfire), we have various shops converting existing 8", 11", and 16" models to 18.5", which results in funny combinations of a 18.5" barrel and a pistol length gas system.
@aaronfarnsworth7653
@aaronfarnsworth7653 2 ай бұрын
The short gas length look progressively stranger the further away you get from the 8-9" minimal barrel length. The jump to 11" and 14" should have gone back to the original length system and handguard.

I cannot believe we have allowed the market to get to the point where it is acceptable for a gun to be sold without any sights at all, which is only done so the irons can be sold separately at a markup. This is just like how if you buy a new phone it no longer comes with a wall plug only the USB charger, or how so many games get released in unfinished condition and it can take years for them to reach their final form. We as consumers are really not demanding enough for our hard earned money.
@DeliveryMcGee
@DeliveryMcGee 2 ай бұрын
I look at it from the opposite angle, like how bolt-action hunting rifles have been sold without sights for decades -- 99% of buyers are going to put a scope (or in this case a red dot or whatever) on it, so why bother putting factory iron sights on it when they'll just be an annoyance for the buyer to remove? I guess it makes more sense from a cost standpoint in the former case, saving the expense of cutting dovetails &c., as opposed to just throwing a set of clip-onto-the-rails sights in the box with the modern modular rifle, but ...
@classifiedad1
@classifiedad1 2 ай бұрын
Many rifles are already sold without sights because there is an expectation that the buyer would put on an optical sight of their own choosing, either one they already have or one purchased for the rifle. It is most comparable to the wall charger for smart phones since many people either have a computer to plug the phone into, or would purchase a wall charger better suited for their needs which would likely exceed the capability of whatever was supplied. It’s a cost saving for the company which doesn’t practically affect enough end users to matter, so it’s an easy saving to make. The unfinished game is a less apt comparison since the end user isn’t adding things to the product through future purchase or prior possession. The equivalent to unfinished games would be doing a SIG Sauer and using their fanboys to beta test their Gen 1 products.

On the barrel thing: The best option would be to make barrels in all lengths and profiles but that is not all that ecenomical. The second best thing is to make just a heavy barrel so that people can reprofile it themselves. The worst thing IMO is to only make a pencil barrel because that leaves out any options for reprofiling.

I might be the only person not excited about the Bren 3. Bren 2 is my favorite rifle, and I have a LOT of them. One of the things I love about it is how lightweight and maneuverable it is, specifically the pistol versions with their lightweight barrels. Bren 3 with thicker heavier barrel is a no go for me . . .

It's a go for me lol. When it hits the US market I'm getting it for sure. It won't be a heavy barrel like the 16". It'll be like a medium barrel, for improved accuracy and length of life. CZ may be doing away with the pencil barrels
@gator36

That magazine window on the heel is a neat idea. I imagine it's easier to glance at this mag without rotating the rifle or dropping the mag to see how many rounds you're still rocking. I wonder if it's feasible to make ones that show the entire column and still maintain strength in the mag casing? Even cooler if it had, say, 5 round hash marks up the window. Just spitballing.

The 805 brake is likely cheaper to manufacture and the curved flash hider is not required for the heavier barrel. The original reason for the curved flash hider was to remove resonance when firing. Heavier and longer barrel probably solved that problem.
