I live in California and when full featured AR’s got banned, I rushed out to the stores to find one (like everybody else). I knew hardly anything about them. Turner’s was selling them for under $800, but they were all out of stock. I think I found the very last Colt in the Los Angeles area, it was a display model at a small shop. They were asking $1,100, so it ended up being $1,300 out the door. I thought I was getting screwed and just paying a premium because of the ban, but I paid the money anyway. I now realize that the less expensive ones were the “Expanse” models, while the one I got was an LE6920 that had all the markings (M4 carbine, all the C markings, etc.). No carry handle, just flip up sights. I’m so glad I didn’t find an Expanse model, knowing what I know now. I got lucky. Got it just in time to be grandfathered in. My buddy decided to save some cash and got a M&P 15. The one thing that bothered me about his was no heat shield in the hand guard whatsoever, just a plastic shell. The only things I’ve done to it was add a sling, a Holosun red dot, and an Elzetta bayonet lug light holder with a white light. Otherwise, I’m keeping it all stock. The funny thing is, I was never into the AR-15. I was always more into cowboy guns. But I wasn’t a Fudd, I fully supported those that wanted them. I probably would have bought a lever action rifle, but the ban prompted me to buy an AR just as a political statement. I knew they were going to fly off the shelves and I just wanted to help make that number increase. I figured I could get a lever action later. Now I understand America’s love affair with this rifle, because now I’m fully into it. Thank you Governor Jerry Brown, if it weren’t for the ban, I wouldn’t have ever bought one. I just wanted to stand in solidarity with my tactical brothers and sisters. Now, I’m one of them.

I was lucky enough to have taken a tour of the manufacturing floor at Colt in West Hartford back around 2001. The gentleman showing me around explained that the people I watched assembling M4s had a median age of 60... and several of them had made M16s for the Vietnam war. Awesome plant, awesome history. I have two older 6920LE Colts, and just recently purchased a brand new CR6920. Aside from the old markings, the quality is pretty much the same. If anything, I think the new one with the Roscoe barrel is a better overall rifle. I really don't care for the markings. I care the the parts are up to spec and HP and MPI tested. I care that the barrel is clocked correctly and I care that the bolt carrier group is properly staked and up to spec. It's currently got slightly over 1200rnds through it, and it's run flawless and it's quite accurate. If you're looking for the correct military markings for collectablity, by all means find what you're looking for. If not, this new colt is every bit as good, if not better than the old ones

I bought one of these as a gift for my daughter and it's been highly accurate and reliable.

I bought a 2017 colt le 6920 five years ago and now bought the new cr6920. My le had several issues that bothered me like failure to feed s and jamming up. My new cr has been issue free. Proud of my pony

Funnily enough several of the new CR6920s I’ve sold had the white paint inspection dot on the bolt as required by military contracts. That’s something I hadn’t seen on a new Colt since like 2013.

Bought a “new” Colt lower last December and a Colt “16 EPC upper a couple months ago to complete the rifle. Turning it into a DMR. Fit and finish are excellent on both pieces. Haven’t mounted a scope on it yet but dead on accurate with the irons. Cost me $550 for the lower and $700 for the upper. No complaints

The one my wife purchased is a 2009 Colt M4LE w/the 5.56 mm shells on each side of M4LE it came with a grey AF C upper the lower is black It has the Law-enforcement warning on the other side of the lower receiver it was a police trade in 16” barrel

Just bought a Colt with the 20in barrel and fixed stock for $1099. Mine is the CR one and it says “AR-15A4 on the receiver, not “carbine”. It’s been great so far. Only 200 rounds though it.

I had an early ,SP-1 and a preban Colt Carbine which I sold back in the Nineties .They do have something over any old AR clone .I should try to get another one,love them!

My favorite firearms period, are my Colt Carbines. These include my 2009 LE6920 LEO, my 2013 “2013 config” LE6920 M4 Carbine and my (2) 2015 LE6920 M4 Carbines, one of which is currently wearing a 16” Centurion mid-length upper, while the other has an SBR’ed lower and runs three separate complete uppers; 1) Colt 14.5” with KAC rail/forward grip and ACOG, 2) Colt Commando LE6933 11.5” and 3) standard 16” upper originally on the lower. All have C marked parts with keyhole forgings. Some mornings I’ll drink my coffee out of an original Colt factory coffee mug as I fondle them. Yes, I nerd out when it comes to Colt carbines, but I’m a proud poppa bear. 🐻

I gotta say I haven’t been all that impressed with the CR6920s I’ve looked at. They all seem like a hodgepodge of parts, with less than stellar fit and finish. Makes me regret selling my LE6920s, wish I held onto those.

Really happy I bought my LE6920 from Walmart back in 2014. I paid around $950 with tax. I do however regret shooting it, I ran around 100 rounds of TulAmmo through it (ran flawlessly out of the box) but considering how coveted they are now and how they’ll very likely never return, it would’ve been wise to keep it new-in-box. I bought an LE6920 in 2012. It's never failed me and it's dead-on accurate. I also own a Palmetto Freedom-15 blem kit build that also runs flawlessly, although not quite as accurate. We're at a point where lower end AR-15s are very well-made for the fraction of the price of a Colt. But here's the thing, had it not been for Colt and other manufacturers out there who set a standard, we'd be living in a world of shoddy AR-15s. It wasn't necessarily a premium, but it was a standard of reliability that other companies aimed to meet. So, no, my PSA may not beat the Colt in a 10,000 rd torture test, but it's going to sit in the back of my Jeep and if I ever find myself in a situation where I need to put 30 rds or more at an armed bad guy, it's going to get the job done. Without Colt and the others, I wouldn't have that.

I regret selling a LE6720 with wildfire camo and traded off a LE6920. At least I kept my Talo edition LE6720 with 10" quad rail (Colt marked, made by Troy), and Rogers stock.

Can someone offer more info on the SP line. I own two 6940’s. An LE 6940 (2016) and a Sporter SP 6940. Which I have been told is super rarer than the Le 6940 and seldom up for sale on gun purchasing websites.

I feel that CZ is starting to put the markings back in and I am curious if we won’t start seeing more and more guns with “C” markings? I have an SP1, CR6940 and most recently, I obtained a new “2013 config” M4A1 SOCOM. It has all the correct markings, cage codes, “C” marked BCG. It is very well made and I couldn’t be happier. My 6940 has a “C” marked upper but the lower is the newer “CARBINE” marked not M4 CARBINE. I don’t really mind that so much anymore. I did at first, but now I realize that the quality is still there. I absolutely LOVE all my Colt’s! But if that wasn’t enough, I went ahead and got an FN 15 Military Collectors edition. Just to make sure I covered all my bas4s… lol.

Kinda interesting, my CR6920 doesn't have its selector stops. Though I would prefer one with the more traditional rollmarks, I still enjoy this rifle, mostly wanted it to clone my M4, so with an ACOG and KAC rail whats not to love?

Hi, would anyone happen to know who or what the “ I “ stamped mark on the 6920 barrels under the handguards by the chamber and delta ring means?. It looks like a hash mark. “R” = Rosco, “G” = Green Mountain, “W” = Wilson, I just don’t know who the “I” is from. Also, does any know if the 6920 barrels are fully chrome-lined; chamber and the bore/barrel ? And lastly, are 6920 barrels fully rifled the full 16” barrel length?. Reason I ask this, I once heard back when Colt had the military contracts, the barrel rifling tooling was only 14.5” for the military, so the civilian 16” barrels weren’t fully rifled the whole length, instead the last 1.5” were merely a void of some sort or a sleeve. Any light on any of this by anyone would be appreciated by all. Thanks! :)

those look awesome but for me the best are the fixed carry handle guns they even still are viable at least if you want no frills and they just absolutely have style but those ponies you have look pretty

I bought a CR6920 as soon as it was re released last year and I noticed the upper and lower are color matched well but not on Mishas, maybe mine was transitional with less subcontracted parts?

I just picked up an old le6920 roll marked Colts Law Enforcement Carbine, has a almost grayish controls and bcg, marked mpc C on carrier, white dot on bolt, and factory colt carry handle and side sling swivel, and can't find much info on it online or youtube, if you have one could you please do a review, all of the tdp specs/markings are there but it doesn't have the restricted markings, according to colt it was mfg in 2007-09

Variations in parts from gun to gun is not uncommon even with others besides AR15s. I recently got a Mossberg 590 model that has ghost ring sights and a heat shield, as per its model number. Mine also has a bayonet lug and after looking at a lot of other photos of mines model number I contacted Mossberg. After providing them with the serial number they gave me date of mfg. and confirmed it wasn't supposed to have the bayonet lug so mine is an "error" gun and they couldn't tell me how many were actually made that way.

Do you happen to know the barrel material of the colt Cr6920?

Other than the fact that Colt now outsources a lot of components and they changed the markings, is the quality still there? I keep seeing reviews saying how disappointed they are with the new CR6920 because of the roll markings and outsourced parts but they never say whether the quality is any less. I understand being a purist and collector but from a shooting, quality, reliability and performance standpoint, overall does the CR6920 stand up to its predecessors?

Is it me, or do those barrels give off an incredible sheen? Looks almost like they were parkerized and then lacquered or sealed with clear coat epoxy or something. Must be oiled nicely. Keep any rust from forming.

Not true on the production runs and Roll Marks, I have a 2nd run that looks exactly like it with OLD roll markings. CR713001-CR722100 some have the OLD roll marking and some have the Newer carbine only laser marking. There is also a Recall guns with F1 thru F4 marked hammers are bad (can fire on trigger release) if you have G series or any other letter on the hammer you are ok. It might be just ones with carbine laser marks can't confirm.

It's hard to find a fixed stock 20 inch rifle. Unless you build your own, it's either Colt, or PSA.

I bought 2 6920s, both made in 2012 (thanks, obama). They are correct in every way any Colt collector could possibly desire. I put around 500 rounds through one, and the other one is still new in the box. Same story with a pair of AR-15 A4s I bought around 2014-2015 (thanks, hillary). I treat all 4 of those rifles like investments and will probably hand them down to my kids rather than use them. I have bought many more modern (and better) examples of the AR platform made by other fantastic companies since then that I have put thousands of rounds through, but my old Colts are on a different level of cool. I wouldn't buy a new Colt for any reason. They're nothing more than an overpriced PSA at this point. The old Colt that people wanted 10+ years ago is dead, and they aren't coming back.

Man i cheaped out and got a psa m4a1 marked lower for my m4 build. Everything else is legit on it just couldn’t pay a fortune for a colt lower with proper roll mark.

Get the rifle. Match conditioned it and run it in US Service Rifle Competition. It’s fun and eventually you’ll be able to tear it up at 1000 yards with irons. Attend the USAMU’s Small Arms Firing School to get off to a good start.

Recently me and a coworker had some work in hartford very close to the colt factory after we left and crossed state lines we stopped at a gun shop and they of course they had an original colt and a cz "colt and even just visually the difference be was noticeable I'm not saying the cz "colts" are bad but the was a difference between then and it was very interesting to see what to me was an end of an era

I bought a Colt 6920LE back 2012 and luv the rifle. But now Colt is own by a foreign company, I will not buy any Colt rifles or products from them. I just don't like the idea that a foreign company owning Colt or any American company here in America.

Colt is still making TDP mil spec rifles for the US government and military's around the world. Colt always used subcontractors and it is nothing new. Colt still has its lab that will verify if the parts are within spec and Colt only uses DOD approved parts venders..Colt is still producing 5000 rifles a month..Colt test every bolt and barrel. 20 percent of all bolts tested will fail..A lot of misinformation being spread about colt AR rifles..Try gauging the rifles to see if Colt rifles are within spec and you will get your answer. Colt is still the rifle others are judged by..
