@@victoriafedumenti1941 is it really though? You can point of similarities between say for example, two novels that have totally different stories and authors. Maybe they both have a common theme though it shows up differently. That doesn’t mean you’re automatically saying the two novels are the same, or even the have the same value, just that they have something in common. Is it so wrong to draw comparisons between different human experiences and try to relate them to each other?

Veganphobia is extremely popular online. Just look at all the reactions of these kids on TvT page. I've always feared of coming out as vegan in many places and there were people actively making jokes about animal suffering. It's not fun. You forget that animals are the oppressed ones and that we should be able to speak up about it and cause people the necessary shock to get them out of carnistic way of thinking. Going vegan always requires a form of awakening, and that doesn't happen by policing words. It happens with courage and boldness.

@@jackogracko Again, no. No one seems to know what the words "equate" and "compare" mean. They're not the same word. She was responding to the guy's comment about bigotry not being as bad if it's against something that's a choice, like veganism. She just stated the fact that being with someone is also a choice and a lot of the hate that gays get isn't because they're gay but because they choose to be with the same sex. But we agree that bigotry against the choice to be with someone is no better than the bigotry against things that aren't choices, like being gay. So logically he either thinks that bigotry against gay choices isn't that bad, which is pretty messed up if he actually believes that, or he has to acknowledge that bigotry against vegans isn't any better _because it's a choice_ (that doesn't mean overall gays don't face more bigotry, just that the 'choice makes hate ok' argument doesn't work).

@@Nayr747 it isn’t that hatred against vegans isn’t bad, but they are not the same thing. Hate against gay people can end up with them being dead. Vegans get belittled. I'm not making a response video to this because I'm not going to subject my viewers to yet another TVT-themed video, but I can definitely respond to your main points since I'm here. 3:49 - *"Have you experienced veganphobia? If not, does that disqualify you from talking about it? Because if it does, what is the point of this?"* I never said that not experiencing racism disqualifies you from speaking about it, though? It disqualifies you from speaking OVER those who do, which happens not just overtly but by things like entering the conversation and comparing it to your own problems that have nothing to do with your race, etc., especially when nobody discriminates against you based on your race (or sexuality, or gender, etc.) in the first place. 3:58 - *"Vegans are well known as a hated group, and while it has finally become socially unaccepted in most developed parts of the world to express anti-gay sentiment, expressing hatred for vegans is not only accepted but actively cheered on."* See my last point. You just did that exact thing I pointed out. 4:30 - *"Veganism is a choice, sure, and that obviously makes it different from racism and sexism... but homophobia?"* no stop stop stop please do not go on to imply that LGBT people get discriminated against based on choices that they've made this can't be real there's no way you're about to do that- 4:37 - *"Having that orientation isn't a choice but obviously being in a gay relationship is a choice"* Congratulations, you have just adopted thoroughly homophobic rhetoric to make a point about veganism, which is the exact behavior that I was calling out in TVT. 5:27 - *"I don't believe any of this, and I think homophobia is wrong regardless whether you're talking about choice or not, but it really suggests that he is just not very familiar with the opposition by saying that homophobia is not related to choice."* It sounds like you're not familiar with the definition of homophobia at all though? Oxford via Google says it's "dislike of or prejudice against gay people." "Gay people" is referring to their orientation that they can't change. Full stop. To imply that it has anything at all to do with choice is wrong. 6:23 - *"If, categorically, you don't like oppression, then why are you supporting oppression? Isn't that hypocritical? She's still pro-gay-rights because it's the right thing to do, even if [the gay people in question aren't vegan], but yeah, she's calling out the online LGBTQ community. It's not how I would do it, but she's not wrong."* Who told you that the LGBTQ community needs to be "called out" for not being vegan, though? You are literally singling them out precisely because they are LGBTQ and have experience with oppression, which is homophobic. "If you don't like your life of being oppressed based on things you can't control, how come you support the oppression of animals?" has to be the least empathetic "gotcha" moment I've ever heard. I'm not going to post videos singling out women who have been systematically abused and say "if you don't like sexism, why are you still racist?" because that's, well, obscene. 7:47 - *"I wish she would stop using the word selfish at all [to describe coming out as LGBTQ], it's just upsetting people, but it's not homophobic the way she's using it."* It is homophobic, though, which is why it's upsetting people. You can say unintentionally homophobic things. I have said unintentionally homophobic, racist, sexist, transphobic, ageist, etc., stuff because these things systematically work their way into our thinking because of the society in which we grew up. I've had to do the work of accepting my part in that and stopping it. Step 1 is acknowledging, "oh wow, that truly was homophobic even though I didn't think of it that way at first." 11:25 - *"None of these people seem capable of telling when someone is joking, at least when it's coming from someone they don't like."* Fun fact, I've skipped many of your points thus far because you were nitpicking jokes that I made. 13:32 - *"Why would you not believe she's a nurse? She said she's a nurse, I have no reason not to believe her, and going by [her dox], she's a retired nurse of 25 years, and she's currently a schoolteacher. Again, why wouldn't you believe that?"* Because... she's in a nurse cosplay... doing a nurse character? 13:56 - *"It just seems like really bad faith to doubt simple claims like this."* I understand that she's a nurse now that you've brought that information forward, but you're acting like she flashed her nursing degree and showed pictures of her in a doctor's office, and then I said, "nope, don't believe it." I was clearly reacting to the costume and fake voice she was doing because That Vegan Nurse is clearly a character and not supposed to be a real person. 14:08 - *"Yes, she has another character, That Vegan Nurse, and to me, this is the worst one of all [...], she's doing this weird, shy, little kid thing, she's got her hair in pigtails-"* Yes. Exactly. Thus, I didn't believe she was a real nurse at the time. That Vegan Nurse is, as you said, a character she does. 24:54 - *"Comparing is not equating. Racists and speciesists commonly engage in the same kind of arguments to devalue others. It makes sense to compare the two. Being able to compare one struggle to another is an effective way to create empathy."* I'm going to go ahead and ask you to look at your comment section right now and tell me if the comparison is effective. I see a whole lot of people very clearly and calmly explaining exactly why that's not a useful comparison at all. 26:16 - *"The video continues on for a while; it's mostly talking about the Holocaust and racism analogies she makes, a song or poem or whatever about George Floyd."* So, you completely and intentionally skipped over the George Floyd song and the Auschwitz/Holocaust comparisons, which I described as "unhinged" and "racist". It says a lot about your unwillingness to engage with my main point, which was a throughline between my two videos: That Vegan Teacher is racist and says racist things and has racist content available online. 28:18 - *"It's hard to understand why D'Angelo is so willing to believe this random internet comment [claiming that TVT's advice led someone's friend to die of malnutrition], but he can't believe that she could actually be a nurse. I'm kidding; it's not; it's really easy to understand. He doesn't like her, and he wants to believe that her platform led to someone's death. He's obviously not stupid; he just turns his brain off because it's easier, and he gets to have this great moment where it looks like she's making fun of someone's death."* The only thing you got right in that entire sentence is that I'm not stupid. 28:50 - *"You could make a really good argument against her stuff, I mean [D'Angelo] can't because these people don't actually know anything about veganism, but there are some serious problems with [her information and platform], but I'll talk about that in part 3."* This statement is ridiculous on all levels. First of all, I am not clueless about veganism, which is why I was easily able to separate her divisive rhetoric from actual veganism and clarified in both videos that none of my criticisms of her went for any other vegan. Moreover, the idea that I would need to be knowledgeable about veganism to call out racist behavior from a vegan is ridiculous. 30:11 - *"Can we expect a third video offering an apology since you've been like 90% wrong in these past two videos? I'm going to guess no."* This bit was the only part of the video where I laughed, and not because the joke was funny, but because it's laughable to categorize 20 minutes of footage in which I clearly highlight bigoted behavior and explain why it's wrong and how it reinforces harmful ideas... as "90% wrong."

I became vegan because I can see the parallels between specism and racism but for you to ignore the valid points that D’angelo made calling out TVT’s racist and homophobic comments with your own racist and homophobic comments is appalling. I really liked your approach to veganism but your difficulty accepting valid criticism of members of the vegan movement by non vegans and your behavior in this video is going to make it hard for me to stay. The “vegan discrimination” I face, aka jokes, not being able to eat at some restaurants, and the occasional person ridiculing me, is basically to the extent of mild microaggressions. People of color and lgbt (especially trans) people face much more serious issues than microaggressions. Trans people were not allowed in the military, not allowed in the correct bathroom, they’re beaten up on the streets. The history is also important to consider, when comparing racism or homophobia to vegan phobia. Racism has the history of slavery, homophobia has the history of being illegal, being considered a mental illness. Vegan phobia does not have any kind of history like that. They are nowhere near the same.

What TVT meant when she said "coming out is a selfish act" was "coming out is an act that revolves around you/the people in your life that you care about". She's using the word "selfish" in a neutral way. She doesn't mean it's bad or greedy to come out. As humans, most of the the things that we do, we do for ourselves. Most of our actions are "selfish" actions because we are doing them to achieve something for ourselves. I hope that makes sense. So her point was that, while coming out is an event that revolves around you (and maybe your family), announcing that you're vegan is an act that revolves around the choice that you have made specifically to be unselfish. Furthermore, I definitely don't agree with the part where she says something like "it's more special to come out as vegan than is it to come out a lgbtq," but I do see her reasoning, I think. For her, I think what she means is that coming out as lgbtq is MORALLY NEUTRAL as it does not positively or negatively affect anyone outside of your inner circle, while choosing to not consume animal products in order to reduce animal suffering is a MORALLY POSITIVE action that aims to postivley affect living beings (the animals) outside of your inner circle, despite the inconvenience it may pose in your daily life. I personally feel that they are equally special, just in different ways~ Anyway, most TVT's content is poorly executed, cringy satire that is mostly going to be misunderstood (unless the perosn viewing it is already vegan). She's not a bad person, she's just terrible at articulating her opinions.

I feel uncomfortable hearing her compare veganism and hatred towards vegans as the same thing as racism, homophobia and sexism etc. You can hate all of those things but someone hating on you for being a vegan is not the same thing as being discriminated against for being a person of color or for being gay. Becoming a vegan is a choice. Being gay is not a choice. Regardless if you are gay or straight whomever you date is a choice. You have the choice to say yes or no about who you want to date (if anyone at all). When That vegan teacher is saying that only vegans will get to heaven (because all vegans are apparently good people and can never do anything wrong) it feels like she's just ignoring all the people who can't become a vegan for various reasons. Not everyone has the money or the resources to be a vegan and let's not forget all the people with allergies or intolerance's who can't survive on a vegan diet and all the people who are in recovery from an eating disorder who probably shouldn't become a vegan (at the time of recovery).

No one is force sterilizing, institutionalizing, beating or murdering vegans because they choose not to eat meat. Honestly, that's because people always choose to focus on the worst individuals in ANY group. The reason she has a spotlight on her is because people would rather give that spotlight to someone they can bash and make fun of, instead of someone that's educated on the topic. This will never end. Before, it was that banana girl vegan (whatever her name is), and now it's TVT. Criticizing and bashing someone that's clearly ridiculous, *that the majority of the internet already disagrees with,* is more fun for the internet, and doesn't cause anyone to challenge their views & lifestyle. Im just saying all this because I keep seeing people say "this is why people hate vegans/this just pushes people away from veganism".... but no. If you're basing whether or not you'll go vegan on whether or not people within the vegan community are likeable enough for you, you're already a lost cause when it comes to this. Going vegan isn't about liking members of the vegan community, it's literally just about reducing suffering, and I'm tired of people acting like vegans are the ones pushing people away from veganism... because no, that's just a weak excuse used by people that were never even considering it in the first place.

Nothing she could ever do would change her DNA. Being vegan is a choice. You do not have to be vegan. There are no laws saying you have to be vegan. There are no laws saying you cannot be vegan. If you are even going to try to compare veganphobia to homophobia and racism, answer me these questions: Where are the cases of vegan teenagers being sent to conversion camps? Where are the cases of vegan being thrown out of the house with no where to go just because they are vegan? Where the vegan suicide hotline numbers? Where are the laws put in place to stop vegans from having equal rights in the work place? Housing? Medical insurance? Respect at funeral homes? Where are cases of vegans being killed, and their cases being thrown out just because they are vegan? Or if their case isn't thrown out, the murder gets away because of a heavily biased jury? Where are the centuries of oppression in our textbooks vegans have faced? Why have we not been taught this in school? How can you even put veganphobia on the same level as homophobia and racism? I do not understand. Yes, vegans are spoken out as against. Yes they are laughed at, or mocked, or even hated. But it is no where near racism or homophobia.

I used to like Unnatural Vegan and I was willing to learn more about Veganism. But yet again I was reminded why I don’t mention/interact with a lot of vegans especially those that aren’t minorities. Because they will equate the value of Animals higher than human beings. Her Black Lives Matter videos was very much ( I can excuse racism but I draw the line on animal cruelty). She is pro Capitalism ( which I don’t mind but her reasons didn’t make sense) And now she is defending a Woman who is clearly RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC AND ANTI-SEMITIC in the name of Veganism. D’Angelo made a perfect Video as to why but you so blatantly ignored his points and are clearly ignorant. Is this truly the hill you wanna die on.

This is so disappointing... I don't agree with D'Angelo on all of his points, but I'm shocked that someone who comes across as so smart, educated, all the while still caring and somewhat selfless as you, suddenly presents such a warped perception of the situation. Why are you defending her and skipping over D'Angelo's main points? Because she's vegan? She is so outrageously disrespectful to all kinds people and insanely damaging to the vegan community and our message because she portrays the worst stereotype imaginable... I have not commented on her behaviour before, because I didn't see the necessity to, but now, I feel as though I have to. She's turning people away by picking out the people she "attacks" at seemingly random, she's pushy, rude and inconsiderate. And she is homophobic and racist. Maybe she doesn't mean to be... But her way of phrasing things and her actions speak for themselves, which you also kind of skipped over. Please reconsider your points. You don't need to support someone so vicious just because she is vegan and no one else seems to speak up for her. She is a grown woman, she does what she does on purpose and she can either stop or face the backlash. No need for you to jump to her defense. Despite how shocking I find this video to be, I hope you will take some time to reflect on this and maybe adjust some of your points.

If you read through Dangelo’s response, they’re all moot points logically speaking and have no real substance. Just because you’re a doctor, doesn’t mean everything you say supersedes others, otherwise we would all be smoking for health. If choices don’t matter and simply acting on our desires is terminally what we’re born to do, then pedophiles and white supremacists are just unfortunate births. Do you see what’s wrong with his logic yet?

And we have enough hate towards those groups of people already, so even if she is pro-LBTQ+ rights, anti-racist etc., it is really insensitive to bring them up like this. There's plenty of other perfectly reasonable and valid pro-vegan arguments.

No being vegan is not equal to "choosing" to be in a same sex relationship. People have no control over who they fall in love with or find attractive, the alternative would be them being alone for the rest of their lives. The alternative to being vegan is not to simply never eat again. This is the kind of stuff that gets vegans so much hate.

What bothers me, about that whole thing, is the assumption that homophobia is based solely on the getting a partner thing, which is not, if youre gay and single, and people notice in thr slightest that youre gay, you can get beaten up in worst cases, or harassed, its not only religious people who are homophobic, it feels as if she purposely chose to pick religious homophobia, and still a small part of it, to justify her argument. Homophobia is not inherent to religion, people who have never set a foot on a church could beat their sons or daughters for being gay, i find it horrible that she would downplay it like that, you choose to be single forever or pretend youre married and you still could get shit if youre perceived as gay, how is it equal to the vegan choice? Will someone mock you because you eating a nugget isnt "omnivorous enough" ?

The nuance is in the difference between urges and actions. "A man can do what he wants, but not want what he wants" -- Schopenhauer. An appetite to eat a certain food is just as arbitrary as a sexual attraction. Vegans who say that meat eater should eat something they would otherwise find unappetising because of "ethics" is similar to a pastor telling a gay person to suppress his sexual urges because of God. And vegans who tell the meat eater after some time his cravings will lessen is similar to someone saying conversion therapy works. My point is that veganism isn't necessarily incompatible with homophobia because the rhetoric behind ascetism holds true for both. The very first vegans in human history were monks who were also celibate.

It is an extremely dangerous idea that most homophobic bigots are only homophobic in the sense that they disagree with same sex relationships (aka people acting on their desires). This is incorrect. Many homophobes want gay people dead simply for existing and identifying as gay. Edit: It is also an extremely dangerous idea that the most homophobic people are gay themselves. There is no evidence that supports this. It conveniently places the blame for homophobia within the gay community instead of outside it - a type of victim blaming. It's disappointing to see someone with a allegedly empirical worldview resort to unscientific claims just to get a point across.
