Amazing... I can't believe that Japanese university students can make this become true, looks simple, but works well. Congratulations!

Beautiful flight! Hopefully the water landing didn't damage this amazing aircraft. Best wishes to these folks on their future endeavors.

If he can do this with just a half propeller imagine with a complete one.😁
@salt63 жыл бұрын
The one-blade propeller has been around for a long time. You still have to balance it with some mass on the opposite side of the blade.

the rule is to measure the path or length of flying?

Yes, it is distance competition.

On things like this, I always feel it can be constructed much better. Like if big possible optimizing not used. Maybe this is because I "think" only like this ;-) and ignore the real problems.... .
Somehow this effort needs to be updated on Wikipedia site for human powered flight. Incredible work. Who are your sponsors for funding?

It is held every summer in Japan. It is a birdman rally. ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%B3%A5%E4%BA%BA%E9%96%93%E3%82%B3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%86%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E9%81%B8%E6%89%8B%E6%A8%A9%E5%A4%A7%E4%BC%9A

Wikipedia is not a legitimate websites, it isn't an encyclopedia, you can't quote it in uni or even school, even the creator told people to stop randomly trusting stuff they read on there. Wikipedia has no scholars or professionals writing anything, instead a random page is created about a topic and it's up to any random person on the internet to stumble upon it and start writing stuff there, you don't even need an account. It's literally akin to reading someone's opinions or beliefs on a random internet forum.

With no explanation of anything, I'm left to wonder why the prop only has 1 blade.
@FREEFLIGHT03043 жыл бұрын
This is because research has shown that using only one blade is more efficient.
@igoski15823 жыл бұрын
@@FREEFLIGHT0304 I'm not disputing your claim but to me, that sounds like saying hopping on 1 leg is more efficient than running on 2. Bizarre.
@FREEFLIGHT03043 жыл бұрын
@@igoski1582 That is the research result of Osaka Institute of Technology. Not my opinion.
@igoski15823 жыл бұрын
@@FREEFLIGHT0304 I understand. I still envision a foot race between a guy with 1 leg and a guy with 2 legs and the prediction is the guy with 1 leg will win. Just me, I'm not seeing it.

@@igoski1582 You say you understand but then compare two completely different things. I don't think you understand at all and you said it yourself: "I'm not seeing it"

Why only half a propeller?
@muhammad_ihsan_adfinda5 жыл бұрын
Theoretically better efficiency. A single blade make a propeller to be build larger in diameter, which should increase propeller efficiency factor.
@1StIwY13 жыл бұрын
@@muhammad_ihsan_adfinda Theorically. Practically it's a bullshit. One propeller gives 0 literally thrust, even instability on high speed rotations ( not on this case ), but still a bad deployment.
@Newbeflyer3 жыл бұрын
Two reason......first the budget for the prop was small second when they assembled it they broke the prop and almost called it quits.....but they pressed on and it worked....excellent flight , imagine getting so efficient with human power flight ? What it would look like?
@omblauman3 жыл бұрын
@@Newbeflyer from the Osaka Inst of Technology own page soaroit.jp/birdman/concept.html#%E4%B8%80%E6%9E%9A%E3%83%96%E3%83%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89%E3%81%AB%E3%81%A4%E3%81%84%E3%81%A6 There is only one tip where induced drag is generated. -By consolidating two blades into one, a larger blade can be used. Therefore, the airspeed increases and the Reynolds number increases, which improves efficiency. ・ There is less interference between blades. ・ Pour fresh air ahead.
