One of my favorite concepts I've messed with is a gnome cavalier, heavily inspired by Don Quixote. I made it mechanically first to make sure I don't lose any of the features. Being small allows you to ride medium creatures so you can be more easily mounted in confined spaces, I recommend a mule for the Quixote flavor and it is cheap and fairly hardy. This character is also very tanky being able to dump mental stats from the gnome advantage to int, wis, and cha saves against spells.

I had a gnome barbarian once, he went beast totem with elk, and had the mobile feat. My DM got annoyed cause he was unable to find any weakness for my character, and when raged I had like 75 speed and would run up and kneecap mobs with my warhammer.

Ha that’s great! I’m making a kobold don quixote character too. But I’m using a mastiff and will use the optional rules found on DMG to climb larger enemies and basically ride them while stabbing them in the back. My arms and armor are scraps and tools found in kobold tunnels, like my war pick is just a miners pick he converted to a warpick. His shield is old and rusty, it was worn by an adventurer who had attacked the kobold laur years ago, so its too large to wield effectively, so he has it strapped to his back pavise style. Went into a dungeon, he got knocked down 3 times but still lived and kept going back for more lol

I did the shield master/Battlemaster combo as well except went dex fighter as an air gensai, splashed Rogue to pick up expertise in athletics and he was unstoppable. He was able to stand toe to toe with a dragon turtle standing on the keel of the ship. The great thing about shield master shove is how many time it comes into play out of combat as shoving doesn't inflict damage and shoving is very intimidating so lots of room for a good cop bad cop without going murder hobo.

One of my favorite characters was a Lizardfolk Battle Master that used a spear and a shield with the tried and true PAM and Sentinel combo. Reflavored the bonus attacks as shield bashes. Took trip, riposte, and push attack initially so he could keep an enemy locked down as he brutalized them. Backstory was that he was captured into a travelling gladiator ring after fleeing from his tribe and learned how to use a spear effectively in one hand (he lost one hand in his duel that expelled him) from one of the other fighters in the ring. Was super fun being a fighter that could still do interesting stuff.

Battle Master, Disarming Maneuver is great synergy with a Rogue Arcane Trickster’s Mage Hand. I.E. Multiclass as a 17 Rogue AT + 3 Fighter Battle Master to get your enemy to drop a focus, weapon, shield, etc... and than as your bonus action have your Mage Hand grab and drag that dropped item away. And with that same 17/3 build, Riposte Maneuver will allow another Sneak Attack out of turn. Win!

I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the fighting dungeoncast! Good day milords! It's good to see you once again! The battle master and cavalier sound like mighty warriors indeed. Surely they are nothing compared to this paladin though! Still though, if such brave warriors were to join the cause of knowledge and laughter, surely many evils would fall to our weapons! Though if they oppose us and turn out to be villains...well no matter. My divine smite would end them rightly soon enough anyway. Well milords, I shall see you next week. Until then, your paladin wishes you well! Ah, wait for this every week boys. And the suprise bubblelazer interview was entertaining. She sounds cool. I did want to mention one thing unrelated to the video, I noticed you gave a heart to a comment that just said loved it. Just figured I'd let you know that's very likely a bot. I've seen a ton of them going around. The profile name and picture tends to change, but as a general rule I suggest not trusting any comments that just say "loved it" or "wanna be friends" because those are bots. I like the classes,they seem cool. Don't have much else to say this week, so have a good day guys.

Picking up an item is an interaction. They can’t pick up what isnt there though. You pick it up after they drop it. Pretty cool killing someone with their own weapon. maybe the caster targets the weapon with the catapult spell to both damage the creature and destroy the weapon.

Cavalier playing side by side with a rogue who has the sentinel feat can be ridiculous. When they team up on a creature, there’s remarkable synergy with those features. Cavalier marks the creature. Creature pretty much has 2 choices. Try to Attack rogue with disadvantage, it attack lands, fighter potentially uses bonus action attack with advantage and has bonus damage. Choice 2 is attacking the fighter, which gives the rogue the ability to use its reaction to make an off turn attack, potentially giving a chance to use sneak attack on another creatures turn. This is just with the low level features. Increases offense AND defense and none of the features are based on magic.

Hey will, I know this is a weird random question, but if it's ok to ask. In super quest saga when you made zovra the lightning city, how did you come up with the name zovra? Was it just something you made up, or did you take inspiration for the name?
@Thedungeoncast
@Thedungeoncast 4 жыл бұрын
That one I just made up. "Lightning is kinda shaped like a z sometimes. City name will start with a z... Zo...vvvv...raa...? Zovra. Hell yeah sounds dope."

Thanks for the fast reply man! I was asking because I've taken a little inspiration from the name for some locations in my own non dnd related setting I've been working on for like 3 or 4 years now. I call the zovriss the thundering hell, and I have a desert that has demonic thunderstorms called the zovrash desert. Anyway before I start to ramble I'm gonna leave this comment here. Thanks again dude. :)

The Cavalier kind of irks me. Sure, the class is made so you don't HAVE to be mounted to be effective, but at the same time, the cavalier really doesn't get much benefit for being mounted. Learning an extra language is worthless when "you can understand and be understood as long as the target knows any language" is almost the Darkvision of spells and class features, but at least you can take an extra skill instead. Two of the abilities are really geared toward you standing right near an enemy and/or ally during an enemy's turn, and if you're doing cavalry stuff, that shouldn't really be happening. I guess if several of you were mounted and just happened to be next to each other in initiative, and synchronized your movements, it'd trigger more often, but how often is that going to happen? "Warding Maneuver" is made much less useful by A) A cavalry playstyle and B) Taking Mounted Combatant, which you are definitely going to take if you want to play mounted. If Ferocious Charger wasn't limited to once per turn, it might actually benefit you being mounted and carefully planning a rampage through enemy lines (I mean, it's a 15th level ability), but sadly it is. Vigilant Defender is a great ability, but not especially for a mounted combatant playstyle; at least it stacks well with Polearm Master. On the other hand, you can't even use Polearm Master with lances for some reason, so there goes that for most mounted characters. It's not a bad class, but I feel like there's actually LESS benefit to a mounted combat playstyle than other Fighter archetypes. Battlemasters in a lot of ways probably make for a better mounted combatant than Cavaliers, especially before 18th level. . I totally agree that Commanding Strike shouldn't expend the target's reaction. Giving up an attack, a superiority die, AND a reaction just to get a single attack that's probably not much better than yours, and may have been triggered later in the round anyway? I also agree that Battlemasters should get more benefit from Charisma if one of its combat maneuvers is going to use it. . It was cool to hear from Bubblelaser. :-D
