One of my favorite character concepts is a sorcerer who trained and studies to become a great wizard. She was smart, but the only problem was that she had terrible, awful, memory, so no matter how hard she tried she always failed the tests. But her studies ingrained her with magic. Her "wild magic surges" are actually just the forgotten memories of spells she cast, coming out in flashes and visions. Another fun sorcerer was a Divine Soul sorcerer who was actually a victim of a sacrifice to a god of chaos and evil. The only problem was that since it was a god of CHAOS and evil, the god HATES these orderly, organized, ritual sacrifices. So the god resurrected the victim and told them that they were on a divine quest to stop ritual sacrifices. Again, the rituals part is the problem, not the sacrafice. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of sorcerers that got powers by some sort of twist of fate than sorcerers who were just born with it

Sorcerers born with magic can be kinda fun though; they still can have that “twist of fate” of having greatness thrust upon them. For example, mine is a clockwork sorcerer whose parents were victims of injustice basically their whole lives. Eventually, the parents found their way to a plane of order that would raise their child as their own. And then this child, blessed by birth and raised by order, has now been released into the material plane with basically no real goal other than to bring balance and order to the world.

i have a shadow magic sorcerer who doesn't Know why she has her magic or where she got it from so right now she is trying to find info on the shadow fell but i made it so that whenever she uses her meta magic things she becomes this sadistic person who enjoys making enemy's and ally's suffer but she was force to learn magic by her father who Is just a very evil person with Barley any remorse for family OR Friend he will do anything to win even if it means killing his family he once tried to kill my character but Because she didn't know she was born from the shadow fell after the father killed her he threw her corpse out when she woke up she started running for her life to find a way to put her father in prison and restore her family name

A chaotic evil red dragon that has been forcably true-polymorphed into an elf. The spell is locked in a tome and can only be broken when they completely fill the pages with true tales of good deeds and adventure. The spirit of the mage that placed the spell on them also resides in the tome, judging their accounts and occasionally offering feedback or mockery, as well as preventing the dragon from cheating. The idea came to me when I was trying to figure out what sort of circumstances could totally change the morality of a creature that is usually naturally inclined to a specific alignment.

That reminds me of tv show back when I was younger called The 100 Good Deeds of Eddie McDowd. It’s literally about a school bully who gets cursed into the form of a dog by a shaman he was messing with, and has to get help from a kid he’s been bullying so he would eventually become human again. The shaman keeps track of his good deeds and appears in some episodes.

A paladin/cleric multi-class who knows the actual will of their god and punishes those who uses the word of their god to do horrible things. Also the NPCs think he’s a warlock of an evil patron. Example: If someone justifies racism because of a “passage” in a book based on said god, the player would punish them with violence.

For most of my characters, alot of the inspiration I have comes from models that I pick up, paint, and end up making a backstory for as I paint them. My favorite that i never got to play was Thaddeus Copper, an oath of the watcher palidan with a connection to the plane of order. He had a single lock of hair on his otherwise bald head that shone like copper wires, his irises and pupils in his eyes were the faces of clocks with hands for the hours and seconds ticking along to the twitch of his curled mustache. He dressed to impress, often wearing a red coat over his always spit shine polished plate armor, the coat covered with multiple pocket watches, each with different times and pinned like medals near his collar. He was originally planned for a plane chase campaign that I was looking forward toplaying, being sent as an officer of planar law to assist the group with abominations that escaped their own plane and were wreaking havoc on the multiverse. He dual wealded using a sword in one hand and a clock gear pistol in the other, though he was a bit ocd and had a habit of getting tunnel vision when he saw what he thought was the "most efficient and morally sound solution" to a problem. Sadly the group i play with moved away from playing D&D 5e and went to playing pathfinder most often, leaving that character behind until I find a chance to bring him to life.

One character I have waiting in the wings is a blue dragonborn named Üx the Mighty. He's a big, beefy guy that presents as an entertainer - a street performer to be exact. His favorite act is club juggling, except instead of the standard clubs its three or four spiked ball maces that were built to be balanced for throwing in this manner. He is in fact a barbarian, just with the Entertainer background. His "rage" presents as deep, boisterous laughter, as he gets a serious chuckle out of the sound of his foes' bones breaking.

Mine is a Half-Elf Lunar Sorcerer named Elroy Wayne, who was the affair child of the leader of an elven smuggling ring. He ultimately became a master deceiver using his sorcery and used those powers to convince others that the smuggling ring members were just merchants. If that failed, he intimidated the guards using his model revolver that he uses as a spellcasting focus. When the leader found out about Elroy and the fact that he was an affair child, he ultimately tried to have Elroy killed to protect his good name. Elroy has then sought more power and allies to take down his father and take over the smuggling ring. While I have yet to use him, I am quite excited to try him out.

I’ve got two concepts for this. My first one was a half-orc. NE zealot barbarian/hexblade warlock multiclass. Tries to present himself as sophisticated and noble, even when cleaving through the inferior with brutal force. A jaded and power-hungry outcaste, who gained unnatural abilities after the complete destruction of his home town. After stumbling upon a raving cult(other PC’s) he decides on using their resources to conquer and control parts of a disorganized empire. His ultimate goal is immortality and world conquest, but settled on leaving a sentient copy of his memories for the next incarnation. His name was Aribur Drakenmire, but all who witnessed him knew him as the undying Warlord Bellum. Second one is effectively a reflavoured line of warlocks with no real patron. Due to the setting, souls seemingly vanish after a set amount of years. This makes it tricky to make deals with otherworldly powers. Instead, these specific warlocks are inhabited by the psychic Echoes of those who sought to change the world. People whose discoveries, secrets, and knowledge were silenced and forgotten, forming an autonomous gestalt of memories. Guiding those like them, before they too become forgotten. It’s an oddly comforting idea. There’s no guarantee of an afterlife, but the Echoes will guarantee that someone will hear you, see you, and remember you. Always.

My most recent is a Tiefling Warlock named Morcuis Karus, who originally wanted to become a Wizard. Never had much friends, since he spent most of his free time reading the Grand Library. One night, during an all-nighter reading session, he found a book without a title and no content. Confused, he put it back on the shelf and fell asleep a few hours later. Suddenly, he had a dream, of a place that was full of books, scrolls and other recordings of knowledge, even from beyond his world. And he was introduced to the Librarian, an entity as old as the universe itself, and keeper of all this knowledge. The Librarian offered Morcius a deal: if he was to bring him knowledge from his part of the multiverse, Morcius would have access to all the knowledge and powers beyond his imagination. Of course, Morcius accepted. The next morning, Morcius awoke in his bed, although he fell asleep in the library. And the seemingly empty book was there on his nighttable, but it had a title now: his name. The next years, Morcius kept studying, and through his connection to his patron, he had even more knowledge, which pushed his grades even further beyond. His tutors were curious about all this knowledge, but Morcius kept his pact hidden. And in time, he made his degree and was offered a job at the research facility of the Academy of the Arcane. Morcius had to decline this offer, since his patron ordered him to scout the world for long lost knowledge, and thus, he became an adventurer. That is it for his backstory. Ability wise, he has high Intelligence (we rolled stats), Charisma and Constitution, with Wisdom as a dumpstat, which I explained with the reason that he is often in thought and not always aware of his surroundings. For the Eldritch Invocation, I chose Devils Sight, Eyes of the Runekeeper, Aspect of the Moon, Eldritch Sight, Eldrithc Mind and Beguiling Influence. As a GOO Warlock, Psychic damage is his shtick, so his main cantrip is Mind Sliver, and I gave him a lot of psychic damage spells, along with some other in case we have to find a construct. His Pact Boon is Pact of the Tome.

Imagine a Pirate Goblin wearing a tricorn, flying around on a rune-covered rock like it's his personal airship, throwing harpoons, nets and eldritch blasts at his enemies below. "Splat Barknuckle" is my current DnD PC, level 9 (3 Battle Master Fighter, 6 Genie Warlock) and an absolute joy to fight and roleplay. He met his patron Chilensis the Sunken One after being thrown overboard by the silver-tongued captain of a pirate ship he was working on, who had convinced the other crewmembers that it was the only way to save them from the sea-monster infested waters they'd been lost in for weeks. After sinking to the bottom of the ocean, his breathless body touched a strange rock. The last thing Splat heard before he slipped into oblivion was the eldritch voice of Chilensis: "Your soul for a breath". Since then, Splat roams the lands atop his floating barnacled rock as easily as he had the seas. Between adventures with his companions and obeying often elusive whims of his patron, Splat searches the ports for sign his old pirate crew in hopes of revenge, and perhaps even a map back to his uncharted homeland.

My favourite is "Indirani Silverblade", a High Elf Battlesmith Artificer with pale skin and silver hair. She has an innate fascination with humanoid culture, and has spent most of her life jumping between professions "just to experience them", and ended up spending quite a lot of time as a chef due to wanting to fully experience the depth of various humanoid cuisines. Eventually, though, she settled into being an inventor, inspired by the innate creativity and ingenuity that humans seemed to possess. Deciding that she wanted to experience being an adventurer, she made the effort to create "Popcannon", a multi-shot revolver-like gun, and "Silverani", a Steel Defender , plated in silver, made in the form of a dragon, and set off to find a group of adventurers to join. Fun fact; she's not actually an elf, it's more like she's possessing an elf's body. She's actually a Silver Dragon, who made a deal with a young elf woman; to grant her magic powers (akin to a warlock's pact) in exchange for being allowed to "take her place" on the day of her death, simply for the sake of having a true humanoid experience. Can't wait for the opportunity to use this concept, and am hoping it will be soon.

3.5 Dwarven Stone Druid Halfling with Permanency Enlarge or Reduce Person Druid Master of Many Forms (3.0), usually being a Tiny bird, he gets introduced to the party with a minotaur crouching into the tavern, and handing a note to the Inn/Bar Keep, and releasing a bird from a cage, and then leaves. Human, two levels fighter, the rest cleric. Using the extra feats for two weapon fighting. And then getting Oversized Weapons, wield 1d12 in each hand. (A few other things needed)

My most interesting idea for a character thus far is a true neutral Loxodon rogue assassin named Urgon Chaldom, who as a child escapes the enslavement / ivory harvesting of his tribe by hiding in the underbrush. After the poachers leave, Urgon finds his father at the edge of death and vows to find his family at any cost; after the death of his father, he also vows revenge. In his search for his tribe and the people who took them, the Loxodon grows up to become skilled in the use of camouflage, intimidation, and the arts of herblore, including the preparation of poisons, serums, and useful alchemical concoctions. He uses his honed skills to infiltrate bandit camps, interrogate slavers, and dispense justice to anyone he deems worthy of it. His exploits have earned him the reputation among the superstitious of being the cause of any misfortune to befall bad guys, particularly gastrointestinal problems, which bandits refer to as “Urgon’s Revenge”. Many people see him as a mysterious hero or vigilante - others, a terrifying villain; but his sole drive is vengeance for his own people, and locating as many of them as he can, preferably alive. I’d intend for his sympathies to eventually extend beyond his own race and for him to become neutral good or lawful neutral / good by the end of the campaign. (Bonus: It’d be awesome if it’s revealed to Urgon that the people at the head of the poaching operation are fellow Loxodon, and he goes on a quest to discover where the evil in the world is coming from and defeat it at its source - I’d possibly have him multiclass into paladin at that point; and that might also be a good place to insert him into a D&D campaign).

I want to play a concept I had for a while: a lawful-good Warforged paladin named M.A.G.3. It is an ancient one-off prototype built by a long-lost order that was akin to the Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller. M.A.G.3 is imbued with some of the memories and prowess of the head mage and head paladin of the order, but has had its memory corrupted due to age and encryption. It seeks to unlock the memories and spells to uphold the Order's tenets and preserve its memory. Decrypting and uncorrupting the memory and spells is my way of integrating levelling up within the world of the campaign.

The Grunk. Basically, the Grung race has good mobility, bonuses to jumping and - crucially - a chance to poison when making contact with a creature. Monk means lots of attacks with lots of chances to poison. Poison means disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks. Grapple them (go fighter for unarmed combat if you like) and then use Step of the Wind to hop up and down on their body in 30ft poisonous leaps. They literally get scooped up by a frog-man who proceeds to jump up and down on their head repeatedly, slamming them into the floor over and over. It’s BRILLIANT.

A character concept I pitched awhile back to a DM was Ingrim Hastur, a Bard following the College of Spirits multiclassing into Undead Warlock after being killed by the BBEG's cult and being revived by his Patron to do their dark bidding. Think Dr. Facilier from Princess and the Frog fused with Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. A creepy dude who seemingly never takes a breath when talking, has spells designed to make him seem as evil as possible, but his soul having his Bardic spirit still burning passionately, really just wants to preserve the souls of those with stories to tell in his spiritual spellcasting focus (a crystal skull on a walking stick). He does have dark tendencies, and an evil motive (he wants to upstage the BBEG, take ultimate power for himself), but he willingly works with the party, going along with their quests since he gets stories to store in his spellcasting focus, and he achieves his goal of killing the BBEG and stealing that power for himself, it's a win-win.

These mushroom girls have a sort of super telepathy-- as if they share the same brain almost-- that is active when they sre within 15 feet of each other or in the presence of a mycelium (like a forest). They share an action economy, and get disadvantage on any mental related checks and saves when separated. (To make up for the ability to be in 2 different places at once) The other is just a half bear orphaned child, who is training to be a barbarian. Gonna be a totem of the bear barbarian, but reflavor the bear rage as a full body transformation.

A white dragonborn warlock named Gargler Stone, based on the original myth of the gargoyle, as well as H.P. Lovecraft's story "The Doom That Came To Sarnath". Instead of frost, he spews frigid, stagnant water, and he serves Bokrug, one of the Great Old Ones that dwells in a massive lake in the Dreamlands. He is motivated by dreams, and seeks out those who have the potential to become Dreamers (capable of entering the Dreamlands at will). All of his spells are flavored to be the summoning and commanding of Bokrug's genocided worshippers, the voiceless, fish-like beings known as Thuum'Ha or Beings of Ib. For example, instead of using Eldritch Blast, he has Chill Touch as his primary damage cantrip, and it's simply a ghostly Thuum'Ha reaching out with its elongated, webbed hand and gripping the target on the shoulder.

A recent character of mine, but one that everyone in my group has enjoyed, is a homebrewed race, based off the Axolotl, called the Olotl, named Newt-Newt. He is a small sized creature, that is amphibious, has darkvision up to 60 ft, a 30 ft swim speed, a racial trait that gives him advantage on stealth checks, and, due to lore, a trait similar to the lizardfolk’s cunning artisan. Now, Newt-Newt is a unique specimen, with regards to how I play him, which will require some context from the current campaign. The campaign is based around every player character being sent to a former city, turned maximum security prison that is divided into various districts based around the severity of the crimes an individual committed, where the more grievous offenders are sent to district that is more or less a free-for-all. Think Escape from New York meets Hunger Games, and you’ll start to see where this will go. Now each of the PCs, with the exception one has committed at least one crime worthy of them being sent here, which means they have at least one life’s sentence. In the case for Newt-Newt, well, it’s a little complicated. You see Newt-Newt is a profound follower of his race’s local pantheon. His patron god being the Goddess of Mercy, because of this he does not pursue any form of conflict, but there are exceptions. Newt-Newt loves meeting new people, in fact one of his flaws is that he is openly friendly with everyone he meets. The problems arise when his kindness is either taken for granted or if he is slighted. The moment he feels that you cannot be classified as a friend, his thought process reverts to the same mentality he had while living with his tribe in a rainforest filled with deadly monsters and savage sentient races. He starts seeing red. The moment Newt-Newt stops being nice is the moment he grabs his oversized Great axe, and, with his honed strength temped over many years in fighting creatures larger than himself, starts swinging. At the moment he is a level 12 Juggernaut Barbarian, and he is a menace. He once cleared out an entire guard regiment of a small town before killing an Ogre the local lord had captured by cleaving its head off. Currently he is serving several life sentences inside the prison, and despite having no equipment, he has made use of anything he can grab, such as a parking meter, which he pulled straight out of the ground with ease, and is now using it as an improvised, oversized club. Perhaps the best part about playing him is that no one suspects this little guy, with a derpy face, to be such a little monster, especially with this campaign being a test for the prison concept. This meant that our DM would allow certain exceptions to the rules. One of those allowed us to increase our stats beyond 20, and he even gave us two free feats at 1st and 4th level. Thanks to this I was able to give Newt-Newt Great Weapon Master, Remarkable Recovery, and the Slasher feats, while also enjoying having a 24 strength because we rolled our stats, and I got super lucky and getting a max 18 from the beginning. Unfortunately, the rest of his stats couldn’t compare, but that just led to some funny situations, such as him not knowing how to use a faucet, because his tribe hadn’t developed plumbing yet. That led to him getting his finger stuck in a pipe and required another character to help him. Overall, he’s a fun character to play. He’s loyal to a fault to those he considers friends, and to those that took advantage of his kindness, well I have a recent example. Another PC had taken advantage of his kindness and often looked down on him because the PC was a red half dragon, so she had an ego. Well, after refusing to share the same shelter with him, which was an abandoned apartment complex, Newt-Newt looked to his other friend, a PC Harringon named Thumper D Fluffington, and said, “Thumper, Newt-Newt is many things, but he is not a bitch,” before lighting the building on fire, and walking away. Needless to say, the table learned to never cross him again.

I'd like to list off all of them eventually, but I'll start with a 2-for-1: two half-orc twin siblings, their mother was a queen who married the chief of an orc mercenary army, initially for political reasons (she marries their leader and lets the orcs integrate with her people, and the orcs lend their military strength to protect her kingdom from their enemies), but then "Beauty and the Beast" happens and they fall in love, the queen gives birth to twins (a son and a daughter) the Prince trains under the captain of the guard and becomes a paladin, while the Princess chooses to wander as a barbarian queen.

M.A.G.1000, a warforged Evocation Wizard who doesn't actually cast spells but rather is connected to a super advanced armory that teleports parts that attach to them that effectively act as the spells they know. They only know spells that deal direct damage and they prepare spells at the level they are casting them at so if they are using a level 2 magic missile then they have had a more powerful "Magic Missile" teleported to them. If they cast burning hands it's a short duration highish intensity flamethrower. Shatter is a concussive bomb, thunderwave is a shaped charge concussive weapon. Any ray or missile spells are miniature missiles commonly launched from shoulder missile pods, Prismatic spray would be a chest laser array if this character concept ever reached high enough level. They however would not be able to use spells that do acid or poison damage because the weapon equivalents were considered illegal by their creators. Mage armor and Shield might end up being required spells for this character's survival but that can be explained as advanced shielding technology.

An idea I have for a character is a Shadow Sorcerer, likely Variant Human with Shadow Touched. Backstory being that long ago, a crazy ass wizard tried to summon an elemental, like you would from the four Elemental Planes, except it was a modified ritual that would summon an elemental from the Plane of Negative Energy. The ritual was fatal to the wizard and only partially successful. This piece of negative energy was given consciousness and was able to think, but was stuck in a kind of limbo state. It could observe the world and its people, but could not be seen and could not interact with anything. From what it saw, there was a lot of misery in the world, and the more it saw the more it wanted to correct that. This idea of needing to do "good" in the world eventually became strong enough that it caught the attention of The Raven Queen (I don't know enough about pre 5E lore to know if there is a better entity for this role). For a reason only known to her, she gave the elemental a way into the physical world by putting it inside of a recently deceased body so it could act out its will to do good. This would have just happened in the story, so he would stumble out of an alleyway on shaky legs and meet one or more of the players minutes after being given a body. He would have very little of value on his person, be wearing dirty and tattered clothes, and have a massive scar on his back. He knows The Raven Queen is why he has a body and would look for signs from her of anything specific to do, but otherwise would try his best to do good in the world. Issue being, he's pretty naïve and not 100% sure on what is good and what is bad, which may lead to some fun roleplay elements with the right group of people. Meanwhile, he has no knowledge of whose body he is inhabiting, so the DM could likely spin that into some good story elements. When taking damage he barely bleeds, and when heavy enough damage is taken, a pure black energy or mist starts to leak out of him. Him levelling up is simply his body becoming more and more adjusted to what is inhabiting it, likely with aesthetic changes. His arcane focus is a glossy black spike that extends out of his right hand. It has intricate and varied carvings and shapes in it, and extends out more to cast higher level spells; after a certain spell slot level the spike would end up being longer than his arm. When casting the Shadow Sorcerer's free Darkness spell or using Hound of Ill Omen, his left arm turns into shadow and detaches from him to form into the spell/ability. The first time he does this he would be wearing a long sleeve shirt, and after that he will always cut the left sleeve off of any shirt he wears. I also have a character that should be mechanically interesting and fun to play, 6th level with 3 levels in Gloomstalker Ranger (with Tasha's features) and 3 levels in Swashbuckler Rogue. Not sure who they are as a person though, likely a spy from some nation or powerful organization. Since this build only works once you reach Level 6, he would join a campaign to replace a dead character and be on a mission to tail and gain information on the party for his higher ups. After seeing the member he is replacing die, he decides the best way to gather intel would be to infiltrate the party's ranks.

How about we expand on that? What if he invested a great deal of effort into saving a crystalline creature he had as an emotional support pet or something, which became his support animal of sorts? Maybe a monkey on his back that loads his potions for him? Or maybe the homunculus was later upgraded into a fully sentient war forged companion?

Been brewing and Good lych who uses his powers for a floating city. He is physically implanted and is using himself as a conduit for the magic to keep the city up. Your player character is his philactrophy who will travel to the city and give your life force to him to keep the city going. Its a long play tbh, but if the character makes it as a prize. You will be reborn a new, fresh slate. Your PC will change to whatever you want and class race ect. It would be a recurring thing thoroughout other potential campaigns. Can be done whenever imo, so if you wanted flavor of another class down the line you could.

My next character is Oskin the goliath Paladin. Oskin was a bit of an outcast from his society, not for any particulairily bad reasons he just wasnt well off. so he worked odd jobs in the big city until a gaurd found him, noticed he was almost ten feet tall, and offered him a job. He accepted and thrived for years, his loyalty and dedication quickly rising him through the ranks. he was eventually assigned to the personal guard of the King's daughter, whom he viewed almost as his own daughter because he spent so much time basically raising her. Eventually he rose to be the captain of that gaurd. When he was sworn in to protect her he offered her his blade (a greatsword he wields with one hand as if it were a two handed weapon) in a public ceremony. And as soon as he completed the oath he started to glow and became an Oath of the Crown Paladin at level 4. However, one day the kingdom came under attack by some rival lord or whomever, and his charge was attacked. Despite his effort Oskin's adoptive daughter died on his watch, and he considers this breaking his oath because he sword to protect her with his life. and he was lvl4 so he couldnt even revive her. Now he wanders the world as an oath breaker paladin, vowing that nobody shall suffer as he has. The interesting part is Oskin is the only one who thinks he broke his oath, or at least the only one who blames him for it. some interesting side notes about Oskin; he may be grouchy but he does generally care to do the right thing, hes just gonna complain about it the whole way. he still carries his Oath Blade around with him, its a Greatsword of Sharpness that he will NEVER draw again because it reminds him of his failed oath. the only reason he ever would is if he felt a very strong paladin moment that fit his old oath well. what he doesnt know though is drawing the blade will restore his oath of the crown status, temporarily. unless he takes another oath which is also possible. i have a few moments planned out for him, like if his scabbard ever gets damaged he will know its exact mesurments to replace it without having to draw the sword. He also has the eldititch initiate feat for lvl4, giving him the speak with animals spell for free. i dont have an explanation for the patron part of it i just think he liked talking to animals so much that he learned to do it as a spell.

I’ve always wanted to make a Bard who had inadvertently joined a group of ex-pirates, each one unique. They would’ve traveled around to nearby coastal villages and towns to entertain the locals by using they’re ship as a stage area, literally like a travelling troupe. My Bard would’ve learnt how to fight with swords whilst travelling on the sea for self defence. When the time came that the ex-Captain wanted to permanently retire and disband, that would’ve the point my Bard would’ve left to earn enough money to buy a new venue for all travelling entertainers to show off their skills. And that’s where I would like to start my character.

My favorite character concept actually already got a bit of a feature on this channel once before. The Anna's. I am a Fire Emblem fan and, a while back, I wanted to play as Anna in a campaign. My idea was that the Anna was actually the goddess of luck, fortune, and capitalism deciding she wanted to have some fun in the mortal world; but the idea didn't really kick off until I had to leave the campaign for a bit and then come back due to work. When I came back, not only had the campaign moved on but the needs of the party had changed. However I wanted to keep playing as Anna. It was then that I came up with the idea that would actually define Anna and make her a wonderful character concept. It wasn't long before the party stumbled across Anna again. On the surface she seemed to be the same person as before. Carefree, money-loving, in love with gambling and games of luck, but a good person still. But something was... off... about her. Her abilities were different, she was more outgoing and daring, but she also clearly had similar personality traits and remembered things from before. So the party just assumed I had been allowed a respec and stuff, shrugged, and moved on. It wasn't like it was the first time that it happened in that campaign. Until we got back to town and they saw Anna sitting at the tavern table happily playing her lute for coin. While Anna was standing beside them cheering Anna on. Que a very interesting section in which I not only had the two Anna's talk to each other, which consisted of me talking to myself, but then, IN CHARACTER, had the two Anna's then turn to the party and ask BOTH the characters in the party, AND the players, if it would be okay if they continued working with the party or if one of them should vanish into the aether. The party was confused and utterly baffled by what was going on, but entirely interested. So they approved. And thusly, the Anna's were born. The concept is simple. An Anna is her own unique person, but she's also part of a greater mind, serving as the avatar for the goddess of luck, Fortuna. So you might, say, have a Paladin Anna who is dutiful and follows the code of the Knights of Capitalism, a bardic Anna who enjoys mischief and using her music to solve problems, or a sorcerer Anna who is an attention hog and just as likely to support her party as she is to just turn herself into a giant ape to resolve her problems. They're all the same person, but they're also all each their own individual person as well, which is weird, but makes perfect sense when they actually meet up and you get, say, paladin Anna getting mad at bardic Anna because she's not working the shop as dutifully as she should and instead trying to drum up business through showy displays. Yet, at the same time, each one can seemlessly switch out for a different Anna without people noticing until Bard Anna suddenly gets asked to sing and has the singing voice of a drunken barbarian. An Anna is also, 100%, 4th wall aware. They are fully capable of not only conversing with players, but of the actions of other Anna's in other campaigns, which has come up more times than you'd think. They'll never meta or reveal hints about how to solve the problem though. So just because one of them beat a module before doesn't mean she'll tell a different party 'the code is 0451' or something. And, yes, I am VERY careful about that to ensure fair play. But at the same time, if the GM is having trouble or needs to communicate something to the party and they don't have a cleric, Anna (or me) will ask for permission from the GM to drop a hint. Their numbers have grown as well. As of last tally they had a level 20 artificier who went around selling stuff in a mobile shop, a level 15 divine soul sorc, a level 12 bard, a level 10 paladin, a level 8 barbarian, a level 7 fighter, a level 5 wizard, two level unknown shopkeeps, an airship pilor, and a potentially 'non-canon' barmaid who exists mostly because I did a panic NPC and she ended up with a dumbass who tried to appropriate her inventory while spouting anti-capitalist, pro-communist, stuff and telling her she should 'rise up against the cruel business owner and nobility keeping a commoner like her trapped in capitalistic poverty'. She responded by punching him in the face. The group hasn't gotten back together yet after the player who did that basically pissed off the entire group. If they do, we'll see what happens.

Coolest? The Failed Lich. A Reborn Undead Warlock that originally had aspirations of becoming a lich. Something went wrong during the final stages though so now their phylactery doesn’t work like it’s supposed to and their memories are fractured. The phylactery is a copper ring but in order for the Failed Lich to be reborn, someone has to put the ring on causing them to become the host of the Failed Lich. I used them in a one-shot and it was fun making the Paladin uncomfortable with this undead horror.

I got one that's I've been wanting g to play in a pathfinder 1e game if any dm would have even allowed it. The concept is as follows: Dr. Arthur Goodwell, most call him Dr. Feelgood while under the effects of anesthesia, a physician (alchemist) who was attacked by a wolf one night after finishing his work. Thinking it was just a regular wolf, he patched himself up and went on with his life. Next month rolled around and he woke up to/in a bloody mess in his house with both us wife and child slaughtered. He later realized that he was a werewolf and now works to either find a cure (not wanting to use remove curse because that's just bad for story telling) or find a way to live with and control it. The main idea was for him to call on the werewolf form only when he was in dire circumstances, opting instead to supply healing to a party instead though mass produced potions and healing bombs. Later on going into the Mad Chemist prestige class to unlock the multi alignment bit and dual mind as a way to try and communicate with the wolf within. The hilarity of it would be I the fact that I'm not sure if the character would then have 2, 3, or 4 alinments as the wolf self would likely have a separate alignment and each self may get a different alignment when mutating.

I have one that started cooking in my head last week. A warforged that has no history, as it was never deployed. It simply activated by unknown means in the place it was meant to be deployed from, the only things around it being other warforged in various states and empty alcoves of ones that were either deployed or also woke up, though this one noticed it was, different. Its armor was designed differently, and instead of two eyes it has a single one that could move back and froth on a track. On part of its chest armor are two panels that slide back to reveal speakers, meaning that this warforged was designed or modified to address crowds, and instead of a mouth it had sort of a vent at the end of a muzzle that lit up when speaking normally. Being curious it started to wander until it came to a nearby town, where the people had maybe seen a warforged before, but this one being different they were put off, until one day it saw someone struggling to repair a wagon wheel, and this warforged lifted that end so that they could complete the repair, this start to endear it to the townspeople and it started to assist more by doing odd jobs. having found out it likes making people feel happy the warforged at one point witnessed a bard's performance on the street and got an idea, going to work with a craftsman to fashion an instrument that the warforged can plug into himself in order to amplify the sound or even alter it when they perform, becoming a warforged bard with its own built in speaker system. Also just for funsies when it talks it sounds a bit like an old style radio, the muzzle vent lighting up when speaking. As for the single eye design, I'll admit right not that the overall design is a bit inspired by the Zaku II mobile suit from the Gundam series, of course likely steampunkified a bit depending on the setting.

Okay. So if jjk ever gets a fully homebrewed system for dnd heres my pick. A strategic sorceress who graduated from a jujutsu sorcerer school, on her first mission she was found by another sorcerer, this sorcerer had also graduated and felt the desire to test his colleges, they jumped her and beat her without the use of cursed energy, but neglected to hold back their own strength, the sorceress was dead, the assailant; realizing how that would look to the other sorcerers covered the disappearancs up, getting rid of the body with the help of his technique. A few months later, this woman would reemerge as a vengful spirit, hell bent on living the life she wanted when she was alive. Using her innate cursed technique hex-arcana and her inhereted cursed technique: cursed chess she can change the flow of battle and replicate effects of other cursed techniques she has studied. Cursed chess: the ability to turn curses into pawns and summon them to the battle feild so long as their grade is lower than her own, when captired the curses become orbs similar to geto's curse manipulation, but these chess peices are more my diaya higachikata from jojo, having their core at the center kf the chess pieces. When a chess peice is summoned the cursed spirits can be promoted based on their potential, beviming queen peices as they hit special grade. Hex-arcana: the ability to manipulate cursed energy to create basic spells, how ever they can also learn the effects if other cursed techniques and apply them to her own spells. Or mimic the spells casted by others. Example: gojo's blue effect (gravity attraction) with a cage, creating a cage that attracts the target to different patts if the cage, constricting their movements or straight up immobilizing them. She has an ally curse she keeps around because she likes it too, keeping it as a pet.

I really want to play an Aaracokra Divine Soul Sorcerer, who dips into Fighter and Warlock with Eldritch Blast (obviously). The flavor for this Character is that he has no wings, but when he "flies," it looks like somebody is lifting him up. Of course I wouldn't have him ever fly more than absolutely necessary, but whenever he casts a Spell, it visually looks like a friend of his (living or dead) steps in and takes the Action. By the time I get him to his high level, I want to have at least one dramatic turn where he uses Action Surge and Quickened Spell to cast Eldritch Blast for a total of 12 Beams, all with a +5 to Damage, as he holds out a sword, but says with the authority of a commander: "Fire!" As for the flight, I would have it so that when he does finally start to fly freely, all these spirits pull him up, then push until he's surrounded, with more and more of his friends forming his wings, allowing him to fly once more.

Imagine this: you're sitting at a bar, when you look over and see a cloaked figure wearing a stylized skull mask sitting in a corner. On their back is a sheathed sword. They see you staring and without warning, they get up and walk over to your table. Before you can say anything, they speak: "Hi! My name's Sully!" The figure says in a cheerful voice, then pulls the sword off their back. "And this is Sid! Say hi, Sid!" Fast forward to a later fight, and Sully's mask is damaged, revealing a skeletal viasge. Surprise! Sully is a an Awakened Skeleton (Homebrew Race) Hexblade Warlock. He was originally given "life" by an evil necromancer and tasked with organizing the necromancer's magic items. One day, he was just doing his job when he came into contact with a magic sword called the Obsidian Blade that "Awakened" him. Quickly realizing that he would be in trouble if his Master found out, the self-named Sully took the magic sword (nicknamed Sid for short) and fled. Now he's living his best second life, traveling the world and seeing the sights. He has no memory of his past life, but he never worries about it. It might need some work to get it all straight, and I don’t know if I'll ever actually use this character. Anyone out there who likes the concept is free to use it though!

I made a twilight domain shadar kai cleric with the Silverquill student background from strixhaven. There's too much interweaved into his background to put here but long story short, he was born in the Shadowfell and has a lot of hard questions about light and darkness, right and wrong, good and evil. The racial features, subclass spell list, and background spell list helps to add to the flavor of this character who uses both the powers of light and darkness. Spells he will learn and/or has learned include toll the dead, sacred flame, word of radiance, light, darkness, dawn, daylight, moonbeam, Sunbeam, sunburst, amongst others. But most notably I like to flavor Silvery Barbs to be a spell that is neither light or dark, but is a spell that comes from Fate itself trying to guide him, protect him, and show him what the Truth actually is, what is right and what is wrong.

I just thought that Royal Sorcerer Navlaan from Dark Souls 2 would be an interesting character to role play in DnD. You see, Navlaan has two sides to him. His normal side with his duty and morality, and then the twisted dark side with a mind of it’s own. If the player is in a human state, they will speak with the normal Navlaan, who is a nervous and shy man, but if they are hollow, they will speak with the dark and twisted, sadistic assassin who also inhabits his body. The idea of role playing between a shy man using his sorcery for the betterment of the team and a sadistic murderer who can be labelled as purely chaotic neutral and uses his sorcery to hunt down his ‘Marks’ as he calls them sounds quite fun.

I have three ideas I really want to use eventually: One is a plasmoid who started as a magical assistant, but ended up transforming themselves into a dark, eldritch abomination after becoming too curious about her master's research. Another is a hexblade warlock who started as just a regular entertainer at a club, but rushed into a magical pact with her weapon because she needed to defend herself from attackers. This is pretty much an excuse to play a badass playboy bunny who can materialize and wield great weapons. Finally, a wild magic sorcerer who is based on a stage magician. Despite the playful theatrics she might exude most of the time, she has a tragic side to her, while also being somewhat anxious. This is one of my favourite ideas, because I can imagine some good character development to be had.

How about this?: 1. Plasmoid latches onto bodies and becomes like a living armor that controls whoever it’s on, can’t heal from resting but instead siphons health from host, and must change hosts to stay alive 2: make their weapon a whip, for obvious reasons given their background. 3: maybe the wizard was once an animal used by their master for shows and was treated poorly, before an accident gave them a humanoid form and they could fight back, but given the fact it’s an animal in a humanoid body, it’s mind is struggling to adapt to its form.

The funnest character I have ever played is my white tiger Tabaxi pirate captain, Byakko D. Blackstripe. 12 Open Sea Paladin/8 Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, and now in mythic games 6 Swashbuckler Rogue. He was inspired to be a blend of Monkey D. Luffy and Captain Jack Sparrow. The Aberrant Mind part comes from that his father was a Rakshasa, and his pregnant Tabaxi mother was rescued from said fiend by a Tabaxi pirate captain Roger. As he is in the mythic level oneshots (where he's taking Swashbuckler Rogue levels), my Sorcadin Pirate practically deletes enemies. Between lv 7 Shadow Blade attacks, smites, sneak attacks and quickened spells/cantrips, he can easily dispatch of even Balors. But that's not the fun part. The fun part is the fact that he has a tendency to think outside the box and spends more time manipulating others for the better than he does smiting. Latest game I played in, the party tracked down an ancient purple dragon in order to rescue civilians who were being kidnapped and made to fight for the dragon's entertainment. Her reason for it? Because she was bored. Most of the party wanted to fight her. Byakko instead exposed her to what would amount to a Forgotten Realms version of WWE! He suggested to her that instead of kidnapping civilians who had no combat experience and would thus be unentertaining, she could turn her venue into an open arena: charge an entry fee for combatants who would want to join, with the winner taking 1/2 of the total collected fees as winnings, tournaments for one of her magic items, open a betting area for gambling on fights, and even suggested opening trade with the neighboring town where coal and iron mined by her kobolds could be sold at a fair price to the town's blacksmiths. After a quick battle just to show her how entertaining a fight with trained professionals can be, she accepted and her lair is now the town's premier entertainment venue. It is all of the crazy, off the wall, conniving ideas that make sense and lead to more fun that makes him the most entertaining character I have made. He is the master of seeing a bad situation and thinking: "How can I make this situation better for both sides, and profit from this?"

A happy go lucky support guy, giving out all the help that he can, big heals and big buffs. When something sufficiently traumatizes this man, starts to "deliver" folks to the Goddess of Death. Character switches to using damaging spells. He ended quite a few bad eggs, to the point where he had a minor cult, that ended up becoming the local mercenaries to keep the roads safe for all kind folks. (Divine Soul, Celestial CoffeeLock)

Currently forever DM here. I have a handful of concepts in mind, but If my brother decided to DM a campaign, Philbert Ferns The Senile is ready to deliver. He is either going to be an Artillerist Artificer with a truly special mind, or Wizard so I can see if my brother will let use the Staff of the Senile, a staff created for a previous campaign.

The best character concept I ever made was a Kenku Artificer called *unrolls scroll* Sir Archibald Montgomery Amadeus Callicus the Third, he was found as an abandoned egg by a kinda wacky woohoo artificer that raised him as his own kid and apprentice, teaching him all that he knew and developing a really strong bond. Unfortunately man died of old age, and urged Archibald to go explore and hone his craft, even as a Kenku, he "still had the spark of creativity" in his words, from there Archibald found an unfinished blueprint for artificial wings, and he made it his life goal to finish it for his father. Truly my magnum opus of a PC.

For a character I'm currently playing in a campaign is an orc bladesinger wizard who used to be a guard to a great noble family after her clan was colonized by an empire in my dms homebrew story. She was used as a guard but learned wizardry by essentially being the daughter of the families favorite guard, however over time she started to see the daughter and the families true evil colors by exploiting people and left, taking the families prized heirloom that they were using to essentially brainwash and manipulate people(That being a dark tome with writing she cannot comprehend but is trying to learn). She is currently being hunted down for her betrayal and surprisingly has been the one to keep the order of our very chaotic group of heroes.

I have the character concept of Anna Wisseling, a cleric who was cursed/blessed with reverse damage. This means that any time she should hurt someone, whether this is with a sword or a spell, it will instead heal. The amount depending on how effective the charge was and the damage she would in theory do if she was normal. What the people who gave her this curse didn't realise is that when she uses healing spells or action, it will actually hurt. Her oath is also pretty neutral, she will acknowledge all that is wrong and say something about it, but doesn't have to do more about it if she thinks it wouldn't help in her adventure.

I have two, both involving robotic themed characters. The first is a Warforged druid. He doesn't remember his past during the big war, just bits and pieces that he's meant to protect nature. The best part is when he wildshapes he literally transforms into that shape. He's a D&D Beast Wars transformer, even having the Maximal insignia branded on him. I named him Lancerbot. The other is an Autognome Artificer named HaXoR Thirteen Thirty-seven (1337). When they were built, they weren't given a mouth. Instead they have a crystal display on their chest that they use to convey their emotional state via images. Yup, they speak in emoji. When playing him, I would use my phone and flash whatever emoji they were showing to the other players. Don't even get me started on my blue Hedge monk. 😄

I think one of my favorite concepts I've had for a character was a plasmoid with the title S.O.R.I. One day a great wizard hired a bunch of adventurers to collect as many slimes from the local dungeon as possible so that he may have something that could clean the building for him. However the wizard quickly noticed that the slimes were fairly dumb, and didn't do that great of a job in the grand scheme of things. As a result the Wizards started constructing a new spell, sort of like the awakened spell, but something that worked on monsters. After a few months of testing their project was complete, the slimes of remarkable intelligence ( or S.O.R.I. ) were successfully brought into the world, and with their heightened intelligence they were able to follow more complex demands for how to better maintain the cleanliness of the building, leaving it constantly looking spotless. However as the spell came to an end, and The Charmed effect began to wear off, one of the slimes found themselves discontent with how their situation was. They didn't like having to clean up after other people, for watch as the wizard was given extravagant meals, meanwhile they were tasked with cleaning the scraps off the table. And so the slime in secret began to brush up what is worldly knowledge, as well as their Arcane abilities. Using the vast amount of books the wizard kept in their library, the Slime slowly began to acquire more intelligence in secret. However one day the secret would come out when the wizard returned early from an event and caught the slime in question practicing Magic Realizing the dangers this may cause the wizard decided to put an end to the S.O.R.I. project, and do what he could to eradicate the slimes he had collected, succeeding in eliminating all but the one that started it all. Using the little magic it had acquired, the Slime was able to escape into the sewers, but now more than ever was discontent with the life of a bottom feeder, not to mention more adventurers started appearing in the sewers shortly after, going on massive slimy eradication missions. The Slime decided it's life would forever be in jeopardy until it took action into its own hands, and so it got to work trying to blend into society. It tried to crudely mimic the basic shape of a humanoid, forced itself to wear clothes and taught itself to walk on two legs. It wore a heavy raincoat to try to hide it's gelatinous form, always keeping the hood up and donning a greasy looking wig to obscure its face. Now the Slime travels with a group of adventurers, looking to get stronger so that it may put a stop to the Wizard's pursuit of them.

I almost got to play this character but it requires so much homebrew, and I want to make it in a way that the person DMing is okay with but none of my friends who want to DM a campaign want to work on the mechanics of the character with me. Long, long, ago, a god of evil and a god of good made a wager: they'd each make a champion, and they'd see which champion destroys the other. The evil one was a BBEG-style sorcerer with incredible power who once conquered the majority of the world before he was defeated by the heroic champion of good. However, crucially, he wasn't killed. Instead, his soul was trapped inside his magic ring and he lost most of his magical power, and he possesses whoever wears the ring. It's not a total possession, though, and I'd have to roll to see how much control I take. DM allowing, I could only puppet the body at the lowest rolls. At the middle range, I gain their physical attributes, and if I roll high enough I gain their knowledge as long as they're alive. If the host dies, then I can take over a new body if someone else wears the ring. I worked out a deal with another player to make sure he always loots the ring off my corpse and helps me find a new host, whether that's an NPC or a new character sheet. Ultimately the character plans to double cross the party and steal power from the campaign's BBEG, but he's Saturday Morning Cartoon villain levels of evil so he isn't exactly subtle about it.

I’ve had too much prep time for the first DND game I’ve ever played that my friend is cooking up So I made way too many characters, I’d be curious what everyone thinks given I’ve yet to play the game 1. A warforged paladin A construct made by a dead god who burned through his divinity trying to right every wrong in the world, making enemies in demons and gods alike, the last of the gods divinity was put into a construct, a machine that would stir to life to continue the dead gods mission when fed souls, either the souls of the damned taken forcefully, or the innocent given willingly. 2. An Undead Eldritch Knight A former king who attained immortality when sacrificing his entire nations population, an army attempted to kill him to no avail, so the heroes decided to suffocate him, they plunged their weapons into him and imbued their souls into the weapons in their dying breath. This turned the king into an amalgamation of spirits and lost all mind and memory. He awoke still lost to the multiple minds in his skull, his quest would be to return the weapons to the families of the warriors each time learning more of their lives and his own memories, eventually discovering his evil nature and how the warriors died against him after finishing his quest, where he would redeem himself by destroying his immortality and killing himself, making the warriors not die in vain. 3. A Paladin/Sorcerer Dragon A dragon tricked and captured by the BB, who temporarily broke free and made a contract with a devil to truly break free at the cost of what was most valuable to him He expected his horde but lost his body instead, he got downgraded all the way to a small lizard, the dragon could regain his form if he consumed valuables to eventually pay the devil the equivalent of his original horde He would find and consume valubles and grow in turn, eventually turning into a kobold, and later a Dragonborn, and one day will turn into a full on dragon However finding so much gold was proving impossible, so he made an oath to a god to give him the power he needed in return for upholding the gods values no matter how much the dragon itself loathes them . 4. A human wizard Based on a class I heard of yesterday where your book is your arcane focus A cartoonishly good human wizard obsessed with do goodery and giving a good lesson to ne’r-do-wells, he casts his spells by writing them in his book like a narrator would, he fails his spells if he gets writers block He’s full of memories of peoples, places and events no one has heard of, so he starts to hunt down his remembered places to prove his stories He eventually finds a story of his youth, a town with a wizard prodigy, he tracks down the town and finds a village razed to the ground, in the town he finds many bodies and eventually the body of a young boy, looking as if he was clutching something in his last moments, the wizard realises the boy was clutching the wizards very own book, and the truth is revealed, the child lived a rough life, but escaped in writing stories into his book, stories of a better world with better people, when the child died in the raid all his magic poured into the book, giving life to it, and the book gave life to the child’s favourite character to act as it’s body, the wizard himself, that’s why he had so many foreign memories and why dark and mature concepts were very alien to him, the wizard was a simple piece of fiction, a make belief hero made a child who needed a real one and died without being saved

Sebastian the Drowned. A Tabaxi who started as a Fighter, more specifically a pirate, Sebastian traveled the seas in search of wealth and glory. He wasn't a captain or anything, just a member of the crew. Eventually his crew got into a battle with some rival pirates and during the battle, Sebastian was knocked overboard. All his crew knows is that he fell into the water and didn't come back up. Despite this, he didn't actually drown. As he was nearing the end, he heard a voice in his head that called itself The Maw. The Maw is an incomprehensible entity from the Elemental Plane of Water, and It promised to save Sebastian if he swore fealty to It. Sebastian at that point became a Warlock, Pact of the Fathomless, with The Maw as his patron.

My coolest idea was a character I used in a campaign that fell apart before I could pull the concept off. I’m both a Metroid and a Bloodborne enjoyer so I made an armorer GOO warlock multiclass, they harvested monster parts to upgrade his armor and would have picked up a handful of warlock levels as upgrades to himself. The campaign started at level 1 but fell apart when the armor started to become a mix of traditional magical armor and monster parts and was actually affecting his own body too. His patron’s realm borrowed inspiration mainly on Bloodborne but also from Apocrypha from the Elder Scrolls for his patron’s design which I did draw and other creatures found within.

An Avernus campaign I almost joined started at level 12 or 14 with your character in Hell. There was a bunch of ways your character ended up there either in their physical form or as the spirit of someone who died, but I chose the option that went something along the lines of "someone who loved you made a deal with a devil for your safety on your adventures." I chose to play a "fake" paladin. He was actually a bard/fighter who, in his youth, always wanted to be a heroic knight like in the stories, slaying dragons, saving damsels, all that jazz. He picked up some paladin spells like Find Steed and a Smite when he got high enough level in Bard in order to really sell the bit and in general had a successful adventuring career. Eventually he settled down with a woman he met along his journey, they had some kids, and later he retired from the adventuring lifestyle every bit the hero he always wanted to be. However, one day the devil came to collect his due and it turns out his wife had made a pact when they were younger for the hero's safety, and thus whisked her away to Avernus. With the kids grown, he dusted off his old magical gear, and set out to get her back. The old man uses the wisdom of years past, and a kind, grandfatherly demeanor, to aid the party in their adventures and guide them down the path of good. He'd be the kind of guy that would offer a kind word and helpful advice whenever he could, always cook for the party, make sure their gear was in order, etc. All the while he himself is on a warpath so brutal he'd be more than willing to drop his sword and beat a demon to death with a rock if just because it'd take longer for the demon to actually die it. He WILL rescue his wife from the jaws of hell, and he will do it at any cost.

current character im using is a hexblood winged tiefling with the haunted background. shes a bloodhunter (just got lvl 3 and went profane soul, great old one.. will explain later). she was raised by a hag until she ran away at age 9. we're playing wild beyond the witchlight and i left it vague in my backstory who the hag was (my character oy knew her as "mother"). dm decided to have one of the hourglass coven hags (the bbeg of wbtw) as mother so the other two ended up being aunts. now we have a great old one warlock in our party and after discussing out of character he agreed that it'd be ok if i became associated with his patron as well.. this allowed me to become the goo profane soul blood hunter and i plsn to snag 3 lvls of warlock for (improved) pact of the blade so i can use a pact crossbow (and it'd give me more spell slots/options than just a straight bloodhunter). tldr: shes an winged hexblooded tiefling bloodhunter (future warlock) raised by hags and bound to a great old one.

I've got a sub race idea. Warforged, made entirely from magically animated wood. If the character takes Circle of Wildfire druid or Fire Djinn warlock, then they trade out the typical "woodforged innate vulnerability to fire" for a "specialty innate vulnerability to water." Not frost (as in Ray of Frost cantrip) but water. No, a bucket of water doesn't hurt, but a 3rd level Tidal Wave would do double damage, and a 1st level Create Water via rain would impose disadvantage on Dex and concentration checks. Also, Woodforged can't swim, they can float or sink. Otherwise, they have to balance their buoyancy.

This character concept came from a nine year old little girl at a dnd night at our local gaming store. Any liniage/race will do, but she was Halfling. The concept is an artificer, druid who's steel defender was a tiny robotic Terrarium complete with an awakened plant. Her construst functions how it would normally but with the added utility of using druidcraft to sprout healing herbs, spell compnants, grow good berries, poisonous plants, and even food. I loved this concept and ran with it myself. Taking inspiration from this kid, I made her PC into an npc. I can't wait to find a game where I can have the party meet her. The whole point to her will be a citydwelling druid, familiar with the stray cats and rats and pigeons. Give the charecters a quest to escort her to the the the woods or something. She'll probably go off about the ecosystem. Much like the little girl who inspired her, I can see this NPC going into great detail explaining how everything in the woods worked and obsessivly getting distracted and wondering off to find seeds for her steel defender (we love a charecter we resonate with). This little halfing speaks to me in a way I can't let go. It's too creative and pure to just not exist outside of that one game

A concept I made up but hadn't tried yet: Dwarf Wild magic Sorcerer with schizophrenia. His personalities switch every midnight, and both believe the other one is his twin. One is nice, hyperfriendly and gregarious, but also a bit cowardly and doesn't form any real bonds. The other one is your stereotypical dwarf, rude and grumpy, but has a heart of gold and would die for his friends. Whenever you try to convince, that they are in fact one person, they will argue and blame "damn magic" for their sudden "teleportation". So a player gets to play two opposite personalities, which is fun and challenging. I am planning to use them for the next session or in case my current character dies. Speaking of which, he is also a cool concept. A student of a wizard/alchemist, who on one occasion found a secret lab in his mentor's basement, where an angel was locked in cage and milked for their celestial essence. So the young lad decided to free this angel in exchange for a Warlock pact with them. Unfortunately his master went back right after they left the basement, and angel, furious for what was done to them, killed this wizard/alchemist and left. So the character had to flee, since everyone accused him of murder. And now is bound by pact to a angel, who got completely insane after captivity. I went for a sort of "celestial clocksmith" who tries to "fix" the Universe through a subtle manipulations performed by the character - a bunch of nonsensical and random tasks. Requires a lot of homebrewing, so not all DMs will be OK with suck concept.

Some ideas I toyed around with: A hex blade whose weapon of choice… is also his shield. A hex shield? Think captain America style. A chaotic paladin who Preyed to two gods. One of chaos and one of order. (Like sheogorath and jyggalag) or patrons for power, not realizing said gods were split conflicting personalities of a single god, and has conflict in honoring their contradictory will. A rogue paladin hybrid whose god is the god of thievery and deception. A living armor mimic that latches onto hosts and encases them in himself, before shifting shape to a heavy armor while he slowly feeds on them. Acts as just another edgy silent knight that never talks to trick others, but feeds and changes host when the rest of party aren’t paying attention. Evil alignment of course. A dryad/spriggan based on that one tree species that shoots its seeds out like explosive spikes. Sandbox tree? Beserker style of combat.

One of my favourite characters is a unicorn, Aemnoteh-Ors (or Am'Os, as he shortened it in consideration of humans` limited intelligence). In this campaign, unicorns lived in a different dimension as a separate sentient race, never knowing about "basic" world. They all were naturally great artists, mages and philosophers, living in a such a luxury that humans would call it paradise. Am'Os got unlucky one day - magical disaster tore a gap between two worlds, sucking him in and trapping in human world. He was horrified, new world seemed like a barbaric hell, a grotesque parody of his home. Nobody in this new world could really live up to Am'Os'es standarts or truly aprecciate his artwork. Even more than that, people often mistook him for a horse, deeply insulting unicorn`s huge ego. So Am'Os was forced to keep a magical corner shop, creating small talismans and making daily prophecies for random citizens, all to earn money and fund his research on how to open a portal back to home world. It was quite fun to play an exaggeratedly spoiled, arrogant person, who had to somehow deal with hardships of adventurers` life.

Well I have one that I've been wanting to play If I ever got into a tabletop game. His name is Argon Tallonford, a warforged soldier who fought for a kingdom as a commander that left the army after the war was over... But wasn't really given much outside of a medal, an honorable discharge, and a broken arm... Now he's left wandering the land with only a dog from an old war friend that he named in his honor, Rowan. Argon Is a mostly silent but pleasant person, preferring talking over fighting. But he does still know how to fight, wielding a long-sword with one hand and knowing how to command his dog during a fight. And if you've seen John Wick, you know what happens when you hurt the dog... I admit that I'm not sure if this is a good character concept, so if anyone is willing to help me work some stuff out i'd greatly appreciate it.

The one I want to play right now is Ulric Blackheart. He's a refined scholar, an absolute gentleman, and secretly a thief. He's also a wizard that specializes in illusions and enchantments for infiltration purposes. I'm not entirely sure how I want to develop his build. Rogue archetype would allow him to get trap finder, and eventually apply sneak attack damage to the few damaging spells he does have. On the other hand, I want him to go into dandy archetype so he can get the party crasher feat. That feat would allow him to just get into a party through some sort of narrative device, such as getting an invitation, charming his way in as someone's date, or being part of the staff. I basically want to build him as a spec ops wizard who is hired to get something from somewhere without anyone being the wiser.

I have one that is a Kalashtar horizon walker ranger who has a samurai vibe with a personality similar to Samurai Jack. He is part of a clan of what I call Dreamwalkers, they train in entering people's dreams and fighting their nightmares, as well as defeating creatures in real life that can threaten those who sleep. During one adventure, he came across a fey boggle who crossed into the material plane though someone's dream. This boggle was mute due to a pact with an archfey, but made friends with the Kalashtar because they could talk through telepathy. The samurai ranger who is well mannered and honorable, now travels with a mischievous fey creature that causes chaos through its grease and dimensional rift abilities. Being a horizon walker, the ranger could use his detect portal ability to help keep the boggle in check. When I play this character, I'll have the DM just make facial expressions as the boggle when I telepathically conversate with it, and basically just improv a conversation with myself based on the facial expressions.
