D.I.Y. - How to Upgrade Car HVAC with LED Lights

In this video I show you how to install LEDs into your car's climate control unit. In this video I show you specifically on an SN95, 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra.
I start by removing two 7/64 bit screws. I then move the shifter cover out of the way and remove the cigarette lighter plug. Next I remove the radio with a standard wedge screwdriver. Once the radio is out of the way, there is another screw way in the back behind the radio; on some Mustangs there are two screws. Once the screw is out, the center cover can be removed, you may need to lightly pry it out. Mu Mustang had the factory disc changer so I removed that as well. Now that the cover is out of the way, there are four screws holding the HVAC in place. You can use the 7/64 bit to remove them. Carfully pull out the climate control and twist the two black knobs on the back side. Swap out the lights with the new LEDs and put it back it. Before putting every thing back together turn the car on and turn the lights on to make sure the new LEDs are working. If they don't come on, just take out the light and rotate them 180 degrees.

Is it necessary to take out radio (upper din) or can you just remove bezzel by removing component in lower din and then pull climate control component and change bulbs?

From your last video of the dash lights I changed out mine and my 2000gt to neon green and I really like it my next question I have for you is there a way that you know of to get the traction control light to go away my traction control is completely not working but the light in the button right behind the shifter stays on and it's just stay here at a Ting thing if you know any kind of a trick just to get it to go away please let me know before I attempt it myself

+Victorino Madrigal if you use white leds, it should be the color of the tint in your dash. I would recommend using just white leds

Hello man pretty cool video I tried this in my car with bright white LEDS but when I turned them on the climate control lights still showed up green it's an 04 and yes the lights were polarity correct but still showed green you have any ideas. Thank you

You will have to scrape off the colored filament that is on the housing.

No. You need to check the bulb size for every car. Some will be the same size, but you need to verify first

Depends on the make and model, but yes.

Do all cars have t10 sockets in the climate control panel? I dont want to waste any cash on buying the wrong bulb size.

I’m not sure about the climate control unit. Each car is probably different. You would most likely need to pull it out and get the bulb size

Probably un solider them and solider new LEDs in place. Idk what kind of led though

It may be similar, but they bulb sizes may be different. Find out the bulb size before you buy any LEDs

You just need to know the standard bulb size the car takes. Then get that size in LED

Do you find them reliable i used similiar looking bulbs in a bike dash some start flickering after awhile although they were cheap as fuck from ebay

The ones I got work with no issue. They were substantially more than other LEDs though.

+Bennett Slater I did not remove the tint. You could scrape it off I suppose, but on mine it was actually blue to begin with

What would cause my cars power to be drained to the point of shutting down when doing these, I did my dash next day the car died. I put the factory bulbs back drove for 2 days no problem got a better brand of LEDs put them in the dash no problem, (I had to pull the gauges out again for the odometer) but when I put them in my heater controls the same problem as the first time, is it possible I'm pinching something when putting everything back in

I mean it's possible one of your wires is shorting out. Worst comes to worst, take it to a professional shop that does electrical work. I know of some shops around me that are super cheap, like a $100-300 or so for some electrical work. That is of course worst case scenario.

@@SwordInc I took the instrument cluster back out to check the 2 connections and the several printed circuit, and that's what it was, 2 of the strips were loose, one crossing another and the other bent back, I straightened them and carefully put it back together then my daughter and I took it out, she's running great and the odometer is turning again

You can get blue LEDs, but if you use white LEDs, it will be what ever color was used for the filament on the gauges

It should be similar but you need to make sure you have the correct bulb size.

The polarity of the led bulb could just need to be switched, so turn the bulbs 180 degrees. That’s if you did the swap, if not your normal bulbs could just be burnt out

If it has bulbs that can be replaced, you can swap them with LEDs. I’m not sure if the part you are talking about has replaceable bulbs or not

Well I changed my interior lights to led’s, I’m trying to change my gage cluster lights and HVAC lights to.. and I know my set up is a lot like a Ford F-150 and I can change pretty much any light to led but it’s taking it apart I’m skeptical about.. it’s a you just gotta do it kinda thing but at the end of the day I’m not trying to mess it all up and have no dash l guys or anything lol

Uh......that stereo shouldn’t come out unless you remove the center bezel first. Clearly that’s not the correct way to go about that. And clean that nasty ass car up prior to doing a video. I mean damn
