Looking for another way to dress up that bland aluminum? how about some D I Y motorcycle engraving? Doing it this way gives a different look to traditional engraving, plus you get that satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself once it is done!

Nice. I'm looking to start up a little business doin this. What dremel do you recommend?
@ThrashTestDummies
@ThrashTestDummies 3 жыл бұрын
Starting out I'd suggest really any dremel that is capable of over 35000 rpm. Ideally, you would want to use a dental tool. They are more expensive but achieve upwards of 400,000 rpm. This means that any bit you are using is FAR less likely to "jump" or pull resulting in super straight lines. I will be getting mine in the mail sometime soon and doing a follow up video to show the difference between the dremel and the dental tool. If you would be interested in seeing that make sure you are subscribed and get notified when I put out new videos. This is definitely something you can make into a business though. Thanks for watching!

That ducktail fender you got on that Vulcan 1500 what is that Harley fender or one of those 800 fenders because I got me a Harley fender to go on mine having a hard time getting it to fit like for you to show us how to do that

The one I used is off of an 800. It didn't quite fit right so I had to do a little modification. But I plan to have fender options available at the launch of my website. Stretched fenders, ducktail fenders, and dyna style fenders. Along with a lot of other cool parts for these bikes.

If a piece is chromed can you still do this? Will it start chipping? Is there anything different you’re supposed to do after it engraved? Also what dermal do you have? I just have a cheap one it’s too bulky and I don’t think it’ll be strong enough for metal.
@ThrashTestDummies
@ThrashTestDummies 3 жыл бұрын
First, you can do it to chromed metal and unless your chrome is pretty old it will not chip. However, it will rust wherever it is engraved. A pretty cool way around this is to engrave it and then use gun blue to prevent rust. Gun blue is easy to find at any sporting goods or gun stores, but make sure you get blue that WILL NOT blue chrome. otherwise you will blue everything. It also comes in different darknesses. Bluing steel actually oxidizes it but in a way different than rusting. It actually helps prevent rust. And you will get a cool effect of dark engraving against shiny chrome. I was actually going to use that as a basis for a future video sometime soon. And the dremel I use is the dremel 4000 i believe. I do have an extension on it that takes away the bulk of the regular dremel though. As for strength, it is the rpm you are after. you want to be able to do at least 15,000 rpms. After that the bit does the work. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

@@ThrashTestDummies thank you so much. I've been trying to do my own bike custom. I want to scroll engrave some handles, my headlight rim, some crash bars, speedometer trim, and maybe some mirrors, this video and advice were really helpful.

How do I transfer an image onto chrome? I'm doing a primary cover for a friend. I'll be engraving it pnuematicly. I've been practicing the Dremel method also. Thanks for your videos.

Good question! There are a few ways you can do it and there are several videos on each technique as long as you know what to look for. The two methods I use are drawing it freehand with a sharpie if I'm just freehanding the design. But if you'd like to save time or have an exact image you need to transfer, the best way is to order clear adhesive film that is compatible with your printer, print the design, stick it on the piece, and engrave through it. It can be easily peeled or cleaned off afterward and also provides some protection for the non engraved parts while you work.

Your videos rock!! I have the balls to try this but I’m by far an artist. Is there a way to print something out as a template I can put on my handlebars or heads? All the videos I’ve watched no one talked about that. Thanks brother ride safe.
@ThrashTestDummies
@ThrashTestDummies 2 жыл бұрын
There is actually a super easy way to do that. Look up "clear adhesive printer paper" or something to the effect. I can't remember the brand I have right off top, but anything that can be run through a printer that is clear and has an adhesive backing will work. Just print it out, stick it on whatever you're engraving, and engrave through it. Afterwards just peel off the excess. Glad you like my videos dude and thanks for the support!

It would likely be a little more difficult but not impossible. Just make sure to lubricate the bit with wax often to avoid overheating.
