I currently own 2 subwoofers from online retailers but I've added a D.I.Y sub to the mix and it's a huge addition to the theater for A LOT less money. Have I been spending more money on subs than I should have?

The gsg audio g-sub or mini devestator at 1600$ is a STEAL. Fully assembled. 15" driver, big power, BIG cabinet, REDICULOUS output. Especially in the kick area, these things will absolutely slam you. It's not the same as a regular ported sub. These things are on a whole next level.

Just a heads up, the G-Sub is $1750 fully assembled with no amp, or $2350 with the amp fully assembled. Prices went up. I don't see they offer any other subs assembled for less money. At that price you could get a 15" E15HP2 from Rythmik for $1599 shipped and a 900W amp built in.

Rythmik subwoofers are an outstanding value for the performance you get. DIY will still always be better bang for your buck. I will stick with my RYTHMIK FV18 SUBWOOFERS. Bought a pair used for $2500. Even DIY cannot beat that 😭😅

Being in Canada 🇨🇦, it’s expensive to buy Rythmik. I want their produce because of the servo tech, but because of money, I’d rather just build one from a flat pack or something. I know not having warranty will be a contentious issue, but even with owning an Anthem MRX-1140 inside of Canada…I STILL have to ship it (at my cost) all the way across the country to be repaired. May as well save the money where you can!

The biggest money saver was the used amplifier you bought. A brand new plate amplifier with enough power for that sub would cost $1500+ alone so essentially that's basically where you saved the money.

Why not use external amp instead? It will have more power, can have dsp and cheaper price like nu6000 from Behringer but to be honest even nu3000 would be enough for this sub

There are pluses and minuses to having active subs over passive. I certainly don't like the idea of the amp being the weak link in the chain as often the amp was outsourced and otherwise made as cheaply as possible. The constant vibration can't help either.

If I were to upgrade from my current subs, not that I’m planning to currently, it would absolutely be multiple massive DIYs. Market subs are just gonna keep increasing in cost for the same performance in this economy.

a lot of it comes down to how handy you are and separately whether you want an essentially known performance vs a theoretical performance for true DIY. i'd be inclined to look at the stereo integrity drivers over the dayton stuff on a second build although the new dayton reference high excursion driver is compelling. you raised the two best reasons for DIY in the video, price and customization. With that said you could always buy a driver and amp kit from rythmik and build a custom enclosure for a behind the couch type sub? lastly, vented subs aren't difficult but it's much easier to build a bad one than it is for a sealed enclosure. vent length is the biggest challenge because winISD is wildly inaccurate for that.

So quick question? At the moment I have I. Currently running a 12in sub tied into my 5.1.2 Setup. I know beginners!. Before I had gotten the 12in I picked up a 10in. Which it is still in the shipping box. Now would it be crazy to run both subs a 10 and 12in? Just because of the size difference.

I would love to build a diy subwoofer but I would prefer that the amplifier is going to be in the unit unless I am building a Home Theater from the ground up and I would build 4 either way so they will be the same. Okay I have a question about wireless subs or the use of a wireless interface, do you have any latency issues.

funny i was messing with my stereo after seeing a extreme sub car audio video few days ago and this video popped up 😁 Always wanted to build my own sub but i wasnt too sure on the tuning part so i just bought pre made,.but how long ago did you build that sub? With the price of wood nowadays does that still hold true that it would be half price to build?

Thanks for the video. IMHO, I’d rather buy a subwoofer that meets my specs. It would be too much to put one together and rather pay for the innovation and warranty.
