Japanese architect Hosaka Takeshi is specialized in designing mini-sized houses. The new house of the Hosaka couple located in the heart of Tokyo covers a floor area of 18 square meter, which is not much bigger than a garage. In the house they squeezed in 300 volumes of book, 300 vinyl records, a two door refrigerator… To ease the sense of crowding, they have two curved skylights which let in light day and night, and they have an outdoor bath. “Everything in the house is smaller than the regular size, but they are just as easy to use and that makes me very happy with my life.”

Japanese men are so shy that they don't openly show that they love their wives, so they don't usually call their wives' name to others, simply call as "Wife". But he calls his wife ”Uchi no Megu chan (My Megu chan/ My sweet Megu chan)" to us, so we can see how deeply he loves his wife that we can call it doting.

There is something about the bare concrete walls that gives a space a feeling of sincerity. Every detail has its own sentimentality and the sequence of the space is following the movement of how people used it. I really appreciate how the Japanese designer is paying attention to the use of light and materials. It reminds me of how sacred is a personal space to its user and that every design should have a story to tell.

You have a lovely home! It’s beautiful, and filled with light. The high ceiling makes each space feel generous and comfortable. (The large fridge is perfect :) You even have a small deck and tub. Great design - thank you for sharing it with us!
