Nah, if a “banger” and/or a nigga from Cali in general ask where you from, it’s a double edged sword. “Where you from homie?” Is way different from “Aye, where you from homie?” It might not make sense to somebody on the outside looking in, but I understood what snoop was doing. And that’s why my respect for both of them shot up after.

If you don’t understand: this was a test and the rapper passed. When gangsters ask “where you are from?”, they’re *really* asking “which gang are you in?” By answering with the place, not a gang, the rapper was saying he wasn’t affiliated with any gangs. When Snoop pressed and asked him again, to make it clear what he was asking, the rapper did not fold into pressure and reasserted that he is here, himself, no one else: he is free. Snoop liked that the rapper passed his test. Lots of times you have loyalty to a certain gang just because of where you’re from and the peer pressure to be involved- so Snoop commended him on breaking the metaphorical “chains” that gangs put on the men in their communities and choosing to rise above it.
