there is no such country as South Cyprus. There is a country called "Republic of Cyprus" from which the northern part has been invaded and stolen by the Turks. This is how things are!

But most of the people in the world doesn't know this matter and when you want to let them know where you are from ' you have to separate Cyprus in two parts north and south... Because if you tell them i am from Cyprus ' they will get confused that are you from Turkish nation or Greece nation... And for introduce yourself to them ' you have to tell them i am from south Cyprus.. Mostly doesn't know that a war happened between your country and turkey and they stole the north of your country ' because it was many years ago. .some times you have to accept the present condition and forget the past... As our country iran 40 years ago had 8 years war with Iraq ' and millions people died at this War.. But today we have relationship with Iraqi people... Because in this world we are innocent people and some times we can't do stop the war ' because the powerful countries like America and England and Russian government need this wars to get their economic and political intentions...

Now, truth is that for at least 90% of the world, "Cyprus" is the Republic of Cyprus. the rest is for the greeks the "occupied land" and for the foreigners "Northern Cyprus". So i think one is more accurate, and more officially and politically correct to avoid the term "south Cyprus" even when he needs to make some clarification later. I am not a Cypriot by the way, i am a Greek from Athens. And far as the relation with people from other countries, Turks included, is concerned, i have the best intentions you could ever imagine. There are no only bad Turks and good Greeks, there are just bad and good persons no matter where from. Our problems with Turkey are related to the offensive policy of this country not only towards Greece and Cyprus, but almost all its neighbors. And the fact that the Tuks have done and are doing nothing at all to agree on a fair solution to the problem they have caused with the occupation of the land of Cyprus, where thousands of people were slaughtered and handreds of thousands had to become refugees, kicked out of their own houses. Turkishcypriots themselves are prisoners of their "Big sister" Turkey, the hundreds of thousands of turkish immigrants from Anatolia who have a totally different culture from Turkishcypriots, and the hundreds of thousands of soldiers in the so called "Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus", a "republic" not recognized by nobody on earth, but the Turks. The recent aggression of Turkey in eastern Mediteranean makes the problem with this country even worse. This is why it's not possible to leave all in the past as you suggest. It's not a matter of "past". It's a matter of a present aggressive Turkey, a country which with this policy has been left with no friends!

This a song that can be put in the "trush" category, which is to say it's made of nothing but a cheap, catchy music and even cheaper lyrics. Typical of a period of the new-rich era of Greece, which was inevitably followed by the economic collapse!

Some of them are internationally recognised as such, like f.ex Manos Hatzidakis (oscar winner for "never on sunday" song, "the children of Piraeus"), Micky Theodorakis, Thanos Mikroutsikos (perhaps you know his song "pista apo fosforo- Haris Alexiou/ Hersey yak- Sezen Aksu) Μanos Loizos (ola se thymizoun/olmasa mektubun) etc. etc.etc. In the 90's there was this wave of too catchy, too commercial songs like "apapa" which was considered to be a shame for the music we used to listen before. Fortunately this wave did not last too long. As an example, the singer of "apapa" Despina Vandi has been singing very good songs eversince, and in general, the music production, even though has not reached the very high level of the 60's and 70's which is considered to be the "classical era of the new wave in greek music", the "apapa" style of cheap commercial hits, has long expired! Closing, listen if you like to two of D. Vandi more recent songs that i really like.
