I like watching people put motor together... I just love engines that much... especially underdogs... I'll never forget the first time I went for a ride in a boosted Mini-Me that was built. I remember one time we were driving along and it started making a clattering sound and I thought we spun a rod bearing or something and he was all nonchalant pullover. He threw a couple quarts of oil in it hopped back in the passenger seat and said let's go so I started it up it sounded fine... I was in awe. It ran for over another year at 32 lb of boost with a 60-1 in it. Oh I thought I'd bring this up. either I've been using my ring compressor backwards or you are. you're supposed to be able to tighten it up while the Piston is sliding in.

Nice engine build... just to give you a heads-up you're using your piston ring compressor upside down. When the horizontal band goes around the Rings it tightens the Rings a little tighter than the rest of the Piston making it easier to go into the block. Also really surprised you didn't clean the deck or the head before putting the head on.

is the cam oem or aftermarket. how much was the short block it looks like its been sleeved? there another channel "boostedboiz" that built a d-series and they hire over 400hp at like 30psi but they drilled and tapped the block for b-series head studes
@hondahowto
@hondahowto 7 жыл бұрын
Kyle Arnold well the head is not stock. It has a stage 2 Brian crower turbo cam, and it has a full supertech valvetrain, so it has supertech valves, springs and retainers. And the block isn't sleeved, a company called Cylinder Support Systems did a guard in the block. And the Cylinder Support Systems can handle almost as much as sleeves. There's a 900hp s2000 running on a css block which is pretty cool.

@hondahowto
@hondahowto 7 жыл бұрын
jevvy boss it really all depends on what your building for. If its naturally aspirated then you can run a tight ring gap. If your running a little bit of boost you might want to widen the gap a bit. We are running alot of boost so our ring gap is really high. I would rather have this engine have a little bit of blow by than blowing out the rings. Thats what they make oil catch cans for lol.

Don't know if you did this before hand/off camera. Aren't you suppose to place the piston rings inside the cylinder first, use the piston to guide it in evenly, then measure the gap and file down until you reach a certain thickness? I remember having to do this on my wife's 03 Santa Fe and brothers '79 305 big block.

Hi Honda How To, I am planning on running an eagle rod/vitara piston combo on my d16z6 with a fairly large turbo (gt3071r) and its pretty laggy up until 4k rpms. I was considering leaving the head stock, but I want to rev higher as the turbo will make good power on the top end. Which valve springs and retainers are you running? I have been having trouble on deciding what to get. Thanks!
@hondahowto
@hondahowto 7 жыл бұрын
Daniel Rangel we are running a full supertech turbo valvetrain, valves, springs, and retainers. And we are also running a Brian Crower stage 2 turbo cam as well, and it's ported and polished with a pretty agressive valve job. The head should rev over 8k with no problems. Maybe 8.5k that would be sweet. lol

Blia Thao that's a pretty impressive setup you gotta let me know how that twin scroll works out I'm kind of curious. And that bisi cam that's what we were going to run but it was a little too aggressive for our street setup.
@hondahowto
@hondahowto 7 жыл бұрын
Blia Thao I would think someone would have to screw with your hondata to get that thing to run on that cam. Maybe screw with the timing a bit. I've never really screwed with a cam that insane before. Just pretty mild stuff.

How much was it to sleeve the block ?
@hondahowto

caliboi1695 its not sleeved its kind of like a block guard but better. Its a company called cylinder support systems. It was only about 350 bucks and I have used them before and they are insane.

So what's the advantages of using headstuds over the factory bolts? Newbie question I know lol
@hondahowto
@hondahowto 6 жыл бұрын
Andy Smith more clamping force with forced induction stock head bolts will stretch under pressure and cause head lift, which will blow head gaskets all day. If your running turbo I would never run stock head bolts

Adam Hiser you could sure try. chances are that on that old engine the crankshaft is bad. I'm sure it spun a bearing of some sort. But if you did want to you would probably need a different crankshaft. Thank you btw
