In 1968, Motley became the second black player voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, located in his hometown of Canton. Blanton Collier said Motley "Had no equal as a blocker."

Motley was a big fast powerful running back. 6'1" with sprinters speed. He got a late start in the league because of WWII and the fact that the NFL was segregated. If not for those 2 things, he would have been the first Jim Brown.
