On Nov. 21, 2015, 14-year-old Da’Quan Nichols-Cox lost his life from injuries sustained in a car accident. Through the gift of organ donation, Da’Quan was determined to be a match for five patients in need. Incredibly, transplant teams successfully completed one heart, two liver and two kidney transplants in a 24-hour span, giving the grateful kids a second chance at life.
Two years to the day since Da’Quan’s passing, his mom, Inica, and four of the recipients - ranging from ages 3 to 12 - and their parents met for the first time. This connection is possible because of Inica’s selfless decision to help other families hoping for a donation miracle.
“I can’t believe the impact that my son has had on other families because of the decision that me and my family made,” says Inica.
