@@dashobi the only pushback I would give is that he rarely got top 5 classes. Clemson only had one top 10 class in the four years prior to the first championship Dabo won and never had a top 5 in the years prior to his second title. IMO the issues they have now are primarily due to coaching hires, not talent.

However, according to 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN, prior to winning the championship in the 2016 season, Clemson (Dabo) had recruiting class rankings of #8, 10, 12, 15, 10 and 11. That's 3 top 10 classes and 6 top 15 classes overall. Surprisingly, the 2017 class was only ranked #16 and the 2018 class was ranked #7 as they won the championship again in the 2018 season. Since 2018, they been ranked #9, 2, 5, 10 and 10 (2019-2023). They had a great run of 6 playoff appearances, 4 championship appearances and won 2 championships from the 2015-2020 seasons! The problem is since the 2020 season, with 2 top 5 classes and 5 top 10 classes overall, Clemson has finished the season #14, #13 and currently #44 during a 4-4 campaign and will likely make a bowl game. That's a great fall and is unacceptable with those level of recruiting classes. On another note, you don't think it's a lack of talent? The QB was a high recruit, but his production on the field is only so-so. Look at their receiving core. Those guys are barely 2nd and likely 3rd on the depth chart of a really good college football team.

@@dashobi my bad about the ranking. I only use the 247 composite since it incorporates all the major ranking services. It's always a bit of both when it comes to coaching vs talent, but I think the bigger issue is coaching cause Clemson has landed enough 4 stars over the last 4 recruiting cycles to be competent offensively. If you want to be elite offensively then you do need elite talent, but also elite coaching (see Texas A & M for example), but Clemson looks incompetent on offense and they have more than enough talent to look competent. You do get busts sometimes and you get injuries, but any recruiting in the top 15 like Clemson should have enough talent to overcome busts and injuries in order to produce a competent offensive product. So if it's generally agreed by the ranking services that you have enough talent, then there's only one answer and that's coaching. You've had a lot of coaching turnover since the last title and that can impact culture and the product on the field. Did he let the new OC make his own position coach hires? If he didn't, then imo that's a bad sign cause usually an OC has an idea of who knows his system and shares his philosophy so he'd get position coaches that know how to get the kids to execute the system from the blocking scheme to the routes to QB reads etc. I don't think he's letting Riley cook cause he's stated he brought him in to coordinate the "Clemson offense" like that's even a thing. Clemson hasn't invented a unique offensive system, so what exactly is he asking Riley to do? Hey Riley, just do what these other guys who are no longer here were doing. We've got some guys on staff who did it with those other guys, but they don't know enough to do it themselves (or else we'd have them as the OC), but they'll help you do it? It's BS and won't work. He needs to let go and hand control of the offense over to his OC. He needs to allow him to bring in his own hires at least for a few positions. That's just my outsider arm chair analyst opinion.

well said!! i never want Dabo to leave. i remember the days when Clemson was struggling to even go 7-5 or 8-4 and clemsoning was a word people would annually use when clemson lost a game they should win. Dabo killed the negative definition of clemsoning and turned it into a positive. Guy to me is forever a legend!!!

I remember when we had winning to appreciate. 15-1 against the pack over a 16 year stretch. Now 1-2 over the past 3. Its not a crime to point out that this clemson team is under performing and coaching seems like 85% of it. The tigers were very clearly a more talented team this past saturday. Fans should not be pleased.

My guess is once the season is over you’re going to see some new assistant coaches in Death Valley. There’s a lot of talent on this team that’s either not panning out or just not putting out. The O line should not be this inept and the offensive play calling has been predictable and unimaginative. Cade is making poor decisions, to put it mildly, and his turnovers are killing them and plenty of others are doing it too. The place kicking issue is a head scratcher that I can’t figure out why it didn’t get sorted before the season other than, you know, portal. I’m just hoping this season doesn’t hurt recruiting too much and things get back on track next year.

They dominated their conference for a decade and won 2 nattys. I would say the man has earned the money he has made.
