@@charliemancuso6980 I know that. It is a personal discussion that the two definitely should have, but it should've been in private. Dr. Phil, just like Oprah, loves to exploit a person's misery, tragedy, or humiliation. I seriously doubt the uncle knew his nephew "son" was going to show up in drag on stage. He probably expected a one on one with his nephew without the drag, and if the nephew truly wanted to have this conversation he would not have shown up on stage like that, just out of respect. The nephew has every right to be whatever he wants to be, and dress up however he wants, but he knew his uncle was not going to be comfortable with it and would be embarrassed on tv. Dr. Phil also knew it would be good ratings if the nephew showed up that way. It would be completely different if he revealed his new look to a classmate, co-worker, or neighbor. But that is family. (*The video is labeled "Dad Dies...", when in fact that man is his uncle- see 1:21 .)

Society did a real number on that dad. He is a victim of how he was raised in ignorance and it has caused him great pain when confronted with his child’s truth. His pain is valid, but so is the pain that his child experiences when seeing their father’s pain and feeling responsible, or when being rejected by a parent for something they can’t control. Both sets of feelings are valid, and both can be healed by the parent overcoming the ignorance imposed on them by society so that they can learn to apply empathy and love to this very emotionally fraught situation the same way they would hope others would approach them with love and empathy always.

@inverzional6372Ай бұрын
this goes further than that... this is a conversation that should be private and not recorded for millions to eventually watch. people are not mad because things are a little different than what the gender norms "say is okay". Difficult conversations about these topics/causes about are necessary to bring awareness and hopefully build support to these topics/causes. If dr phil wanted to bring awareness to something like this, it shouldnt feel this exploitative. For television, there is always such a thing as being too personal for ratings.
