Thanks for the video. This is my take on the story (spoiler warning): Kalani was trying to lead Atevo (and other authorities) to the structures built by the extinct Machu'ruku to show him/ them the potential future of the Yanrana society if they continue to be greedy and disrespect nature. In the end, the Yanrana didn't learn the lessons of the Machu'ruku and followed the same fate. The game takes place probably hundreds (thousands?) of years later given the decay of the Yanrana cities. Atevo has been in "purgatory" for so long due to his moral wrong-doings, he forgot who he was. Kalani, who had already entered the City of Light came back and empowered the wolf as Atevo's spirit guide to show him his wrongs to lead him to redemption and the City of Light. She may have had to wait until Atevo forgot his past in order to accomplish this. Many people think the wolf was the pup from the flashbacks. However I think too much time has passed for this to be true. Maybe the wolf is a descendant of that pup, or the wolf was chosen because Kalani had a penchant for, and a lot of interaction with wolves in her life as seen by the flashbacks.

I already thought Atevo was Red. I thought so because the voice calling for Kalani in the prologue cutscene is the same voice as red’s. That’s something I specifically remember. This was a really interesting twist though.

I don’t think wolf is Kalani, I think Kalani put her spirit into wolf, like you see in the beginning, but I really liked your theory about the wolf pup and Atevo 👍

Finally someone that realized that Wolf wasn't Kalani, they were the wolf she raised XD

The wolf was just a regular wolf, but the spirit guide that's helped you the entire time is the father learning his wrong-doings, until he can enter the City of Light where his daughter is. Basically a redemption story, where a man who did wrong and becomes a lost soul re-discovers his past and makes amends for his actions.

I found this a while back, got destracted, and now returned to finish. Sorry for the paragraph that follows. I think the real case is that Kalani felt remorse for her actions and tried to make it right in life by doing what Wayla wanted. She tried to show them the wrong they did. Aevos, on the other hand, even blamed her for her own death. "Look what you made me do", or something like that. He is constantly blaming others both in the memory and as an ember. He is not showing any remorse. I believe that is the real reason he was not let in and once he admited his faults, and saw what he was missing, he got in.

I really liked the ending.

The most profound part of this game is what the story writers are saying/ could be saying about our path as a society. The underlying theme from the demise of the Machu'ruku and Yanrana is: if you disrespect nature, perpetuate greed, society will reach it's inevitable end. Much like Kalani was trying to show Atevo and the Yanran culture the results of poor moral choices by making an example of the Machu'ruku, the writers of Lost Ember could be doing the same thing to us with this story. Further to that, the game also describes a situation of pestilence (disease) as well. To that, ironically this game came out less than one month before the COVID outbreak. In conclusion, this game is so unbelievably deep and insightful on such a macro level. It doesn't remotely get the credit it deserves.

I love this series but I wished it hadn’t ended yet..but it was really a journey

Lost Ember has so many hidden life lessons - some of them almost prophetic. The game describes the ruin of a civilization due to several factors: greed, disrespect of nature, the rich vs the poor, tyranny, blind faith, civil war between two rivalling factions, and most importantly, pestilence (disease). Sound familiar? If we look at our society we can see the parallels, particularly in the last few years after the release of the game: disrespect of nature (climate change), tyranny (Trump), civil war (republicans vs democrats), and pestilence (COVID). It's an ironic coincidence that Lost Ember was released November 22, 2019 and according to Google, COVID started almost the same time (November 17, 2019). Kalani was trying to lead Atevo (and other authorities) to the structures built by the extinct Machu'ruku to show him/ them the potential future of the Yanrana society if they continue to be greedy and disrespect nature. Could this game be also doing the same thing with us? Is Lost Ember trying to warn us about a similar fate? Are we just as ignorant and refuse to see the warnings? IMO, this game is totally under-rated. I think it's much more than a story about forgiveness and redemption.
