I remember being absolutely furious when Princess Diana died. I was nine years old, on holiday with my grandparents, watching cartoons with my little brother, and during every ad break the words "turn to a news channel for an important announcement" were overlayed on the screen. Naturally we ignored it but when my grandparents got up they saw that message, flicked over to a news channel and that was the end of cartoons for the day.

I was a live-in carer for my grandmother for a few years before she died at 98 years old, and was in the elderly care community, and I can confirm-- There are VERY SPECIFIC MEANINGS to certain phrases. It's regional and varies a lot, but I heard that kind of thing too. Not exactly the same, but prior to no-fault divorce, an old lady told me once that apparently "pennyroyal and juniper" were a "solution to a bad husband", but to "make sure he's drunk first". She told me this while whispering in my ear, then she started laughing and asked me if we had any more cookies. Grandmas be out here with that forbidden knowledge, I guess, because I looked it up and apparently both of these things can uh, definitely result in no more husband. (Please nobody try this, I feel like I have to say this because it's the internet. Please do not poison anyone.) Evidently in the 30s during the Depression, a lot of husbands got real bad, according to a lot of the grandmas I talked to. I should point out that the grandma who told me the above secret grandma intel was in her 90s and her husband "left her" in the early 40s. She has since passed away, but shout out to her.

13:59 "We're doing the Catholic-ish energy" Tbf they would say it's the other way around and Catholicism is doing things their way. The East-West schism wasn't just over the fact that Rome kept electing Italian pope after Italian pope and never giving the Greeks a chance, it was also because the East saw the West as having fundamental changes in Catholic doctrine that made the two feel like they weren't even following the same faith anymore. I don't know how true it is NOW, but in 1054 the Eastern Church was just objectively closer in doctrine to the church St. Peter established than what was going on in Rome at the time. Also I want to note that Orthodox priests can't get married, it's just that already being married doesn't bar you from becoming a priest and in fact is preferred because of the idea of, "well you're already engaged in one pact with God so it shows you've proven you know how to handle it, so here's another". The Patriarch has to be celibate but that's the singular leader of that entire branch of Orthodox. Though it should be noted, for centuries the schism was seen as a purely internal thing, Christians throughout Europe still saw both the east and west as one singular Church and it wasn't until like the early 1400s, right before the Ottomans conquered Constantinople, that there was a common perception that there were 2 separate branches of Christianity. Mainly because for a long time it was less a schism and more a "I didn't do anything wrong, SHE left ME and I'm just waiting for them to call and apologize" kind of situation. Also just fun fact, if your last name in those regions is Popov or Popovich or Papadopolous or Popescu, yeah it's because you're descended from a priest because in all of those variations it effectively means "son of a priest". And being the son of a priest meant you were (and to some degree still are) kinda stereotyped as being a spoiled brat because your dad was the spiritual leader of the community and all the benefits that entails.

Pat's argument with his mom reminds me of how my own mother ruined our trip to New York on a stupid arguement with Grandma. Backstory: my mother never baptized me or my brother to her religion. She wanted us to make the choice, this was not an option to Grandma. She thought, at the time "unbaptized babies will go to Limbo" and that mom is condemning us. Mom stood her ground, but it was a thorn in their relationship... Fast Forward in time to me, about to go into kindergarden and my lil brother who is a year younger than me. This trip was such a big deal to me. We were taking Amtrak to New York from Denver, than spending a week at Grandma's (who I had only spoken to on the phone). We were stressed to be on behavior, and mom would tell us horror stories about growing up to make sure we stayed reformed... We were there 2 days. First day was eggshells, but we weren't at their house too much. Got to see Grandma's roadrage (their were stories of her rage). Day 2 was more car stuff with they promise of Grandma's "homemade chicken nuggets".... We didn't get to have nuggets Waco was a thing that was happening, had happened. SOMEHOW for some ungodly reason to topic moved to Waco, and how botched the siege was. Grandma in her absent mindedness said "well, at least those children are in heaven now." My mom without flinching looked at her and said "No, their not. They weren't baptized Christian, they are going to Limbo!"... We were thrown out! We spent the rest of the week with a friend of hers named "jewels" (his name was julius BUT her hated his name). Regardless, the vacation persisted, with days at the beach and seeing how things changed for mom... Just without Grandma... Stupid fight

Frankly if God sends unbaptized babies to the chilliest part of hell I wouldn't worship that god, but also like, just don't get your baby killed. I mean having your baby baptized is like a quicksave, there's no consequences to their death because their soul is saved, meanwhile that unbaptized baby is like hardcore permadeath mode, you got one chance and so you'll play better.

The important thing to remember regarding Anglicanism vs Catholicism is that the difference is political: Lutheran and Calvinist churches are clearly theologically different from the Catholic Church and have split ties with them as a result. Henry VIII however was in the middle of a skill issue, and wanted to divorce his wife Catherine of Aragon because they were only having daughters. The problem there though, she was previously married to Henry's recently deceased brother, so the Pope had to specifically grant an exception to this otherwise slightly sketchy situation. Namely that the previous marriage had no children. However when the second marriage with Henry bore no sons, he wanted a divorce. This is obviously an issue, as Catholics arent supposed to get divorced, legally speaking, the Pope must instead declare the marriage annuled, having no legitimacy from the start. But if the Pope had done that in this instance he'd be contradicting himself. The other issue is that Catherine of Aragon's nephew was Charles V, King of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor. In short, one of the most powerful people in the whole of Europe, and widely regarded as the pinnacle of both Spanish and Habsburg hegemony. He did not want this to happen obviously, as it would both be damaging to his family's reputation, and that the marriage itself was always political. So Pope Clement VII sided with the Habsburgs, both for theological reasons as well as the practical reality of his situation, and Henry VIII wasnt having it. So in his impotent anger, he started his own church with blackjack and hookers, thats basically the same as the Catholic Church. Because his argument was never about faith but getting what he wanted at the moment, literally the only meaningful change was replacing the role of Pope with himself.

@@miguelnewmexico8641 Aw man UC representing, hello my brother. You have to have humor about it or you'll like, you know, die. And I don't mean from the disease. It also helps that those closest to me know about it and can joke with me about it. I've gotten literally sent home from work 4 times this year and just about everyone's got to see how bad it is. I get the really, really bad fevers. I was on register ones, and just oozing fever sweat and a nurse came up to me and was like "sir, you're having a medical emergency, can I call you an ambulance?" and I'm like "bitch I have Crohn's, you won't do anything" and she was like "Oh....well...." and left. The last time I was in the hospital proper, they didn't give me anything, only kept the stuff to revive me in the room, in case my heart stopped or a stroked out. Again, humor, gotta find it. They made me do a will, the hospital made me do one that last trip, and I put funnies in it, like "my horrible ex-wife must read out all the stupid things my mother did over the years, to everyone at the funeral, no one is allowed to leave, it will be hilarious." Though I will say this, medication, no. No one will put me on any. The head of the gastro department at the hospital I'm at says "I don't know what you have", the ER doc who treated me said I have Crohn's, the radiologist who did all the tests said Crohn's, he got into a screaming match with the head of gastro, the radiologist certified the findings, yadda yadda. When I got diagnosed, or whatever, the gastro nurse comes up to me and sits down next to me and had the energy of "if you answer these questions wrong, psych ward for you" and she was like "Sir, why aren't you taking your Crohn's medications? Are you refusing treatment?" and I go "Honey, sorry, what? Crohn's?" and she's like "OH, you didn't know!?" and that started the fight. Good on you not shitting blood, that's such an achievement. I've only done that ONCE with CD but dude, my gums are so torn up from my mouth ulcers, I have like more scar tissue in my mouth than normal tissue my dentist says. Fuck. Anyways, yeah, just curious, how did you get your medication? I've considered kowtowing literally before the doctor (he's not Chinese or anything but that's how we beg so I figured he might be receptive), or should I try to bribe him for medication lmao.

After a day of reflection, both sayings could have history in doublespeak for death. Saying he went out for milk is an advanced form of saying he went out to the pasture, while saying he went to get cigarettes is a form of saying he got smoked. Most likely, this is a "'balls to the wall' means pushing a throttle with a round top all the way" false-positive etymology

it's really sad hearing Woolie talk about his dad abandoning his family like it was no big whoop, I get that people find ways to cope with how much life can suck, but its still sad to hear a "yeah....whatever, that happened" tone over someone you're supposed to look up to and rely on....but if that helped woolz stay on a positive path in life and not lash out at the world like most would, than I guess it was for the best

The long in short of it. Princess Diane died because she was trying to escape paparazzi. They were hounding her so bad that in the ensuing chase her car crashed and she died. Pat’s mom bought a magazine made by the exact type of people who chased her to her death.

Real talk: Dudes eat in the car because the car is fucking *comfortable*. The seats are nice, you've got AC, you don't have some asshole screaming in your ear from across the room, you can put on some music as you chat...yeah, you gotta be careful about crumbs and sauce and shit, but a lot of cars really are just a place of comfort. Hence the extra ten minutes!

The little bit I was able to find out is that it's Christianity with only a focus on the old testament. We did celebrate some Jewish holidays like the Passover but not all of them. Then again I never read the Bible so I don't actually know what's in the old testament vs. The new testament. So 🤷
