Hey guys, I think it would be a surreal reaction if you introduced your dad with King Vons music, show him a guy who was born in a gang through generations. And King Von actually is considered a cereal killer I think your dad has never seen the Chicago drill scene That could turn out as a legendary reaction :D

"Cold part, Illmatic all the way through that episode of Ozark I think that's harder than if I had co-starred" He already said it, so I don't have to. Of course, the episode was called "The Cousin of Death," like in the Nas lyric. Meant to parallel Ruth seeking to avenge her cousin. It's honestly amazing seeing Illmatic take over an episode like that.

The thing with Wayne’s verse is that even though he rhymes the last two syllables through the whole verse, he still switches up the internal rhyme to create variety (peeking/reaching/seen ya on/need to walk, coach/flow, etc.). Plus he has his typical wordplay where he takes a word and flips it multiple ways (“to spend all this money I’d need to spend a lifetime,” he uses line as a homonym for lyin, etc.)

The story of Based On True Events is that Nas is talking to a girl and Nas notices that one of the girl she hangs with is talking to a guy that he suspects had something to do with Half-A-Mill’s death that was ruled a suicide. Nas is questioning his girl and is asking if she knows him.

Not only for people outside of the hip hop culture, but also for the new generation of rap listeners that mostly only listens to new rappers . Your choice of old songs and old albums is great! Your dad attitude towards this discovery is priceless to watch and he really adds up value with the musical side of it analysis. Thank you guys! The 5% Islam had a big influence in the early days of NYC Hip-Hop. It's a 5percenter thing to do, to call each other Sun to elevate each other, but the streets kind of adopted it as 'Son' and funny story, in Queensbridge, they adopted it as 'Thun', because a friend of Prodigy and NaS couldn't pronounce the 'S' due to speech impediment and would pronounce it as 'Thun', so they all started saying that way.

@@nuggetz9380 solid song, but there are quite a few on my list ahead of that one if I'm being honest. 'Your World Don't Stop' comes to mind as a similar, "harder" track that's more potent lyrically and sonically. 'Doe Or Die' as an album in general is one of the most unspoken classics of all time. The flow and cadence used in "Based on true events P2" [BOTE] is a throwback to the style Nas employed during the "Death of Escobar" era. If you go back and listen to "Hardest thing to do is stay alive" and/or "You don't know me" you will hear almost identical cadence with BOTE P2. The reason it was hard for you to follow is because you are most likely less familiar with the colloquialisms and fragmented & pieced speech patterns he used frequently as a younger rapper. The song, part 1 & 2 play as moments of nostalgia as much as compelling storytelling.

"Your monthly subscription to the slums edition, the new it was written" - as great as an album Illmatic is, when it first came out it didn't really sell a lot records.. so when he did his second album, It Was Written he added a little more contemporary sound but the subject matter was still as "rugged" as Illmatic but more people could listen to it. Which also adds to the Chief Kief and Mozart line. He also said one of the song off of Magic 2 that he's "Underground and overground and it's never been seen" Coming from RSA🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

Good show. Nas references It was Written on Magic³. The Bote pt 2 is example of that. Also, to your dads point about the “work” that was put into the writing, well that’s also highlighted on iww and is part of why a lot of people put iww over illmatic. A lot of folks would say 96 nas specifically, which is iww year, is the greatest rapper/lyricist of all time. And you hear it on songs like I gave you power, shootouts, setup, take it blood, message, etc. He told story on illmatic, but it wasn’t to the level of iww. This song specifically reminds me of the setup on Iww. Spoiler alert: The jazzy nature of illmatic is definitely present on M³. ✌️

If you haven't listened to king's disease 3, you have to react to it. The first 4 songs of the album will do. Would love to hear your thoughts of that album.

In the song “I love this feeling” that line about the old men playing chess, one in prison one in the park; He’s comparing the old men playing Chess to pass their idle time. A elderly man’s life can be lonely and very routine almost predictable like a daily chess game. The old man could long for visits from his children or grandchildren who have moved on. Same can be said for an old man in prison “staying on good behavior for extra visits” playing chess to pass idle time. Hoping for sanctioned visits from family. They both have the same reality but from different perspectives.. This is why Nas is the 🐐. You must really listen several times to decipher his lyrics. He’s very deep like an author who writes novels.

Based on a true story 1 and 2 are the same story. The unsolved murder in part 1 is the dead guy from part 2 that Nas sees on the IG timeline saying R.I.P.
