I agree with you 1000 percent. This movie is a true gem. There is no superficiality. It is a deep and precise work of art. Also a MASTER CLASS in Acting and screenwriting. The greatest thing also is that the director chose and gave these splendid performers the world in which they could bring their shining work. The cinematography was breathtakingly intimate.

I enjoyed your review and saw this movie last night. Johnson and Penn are perfectly cast! The former’s character is the more complex, and Johnson nails under-playing the sadness and drama behind it. Meanwhile, Penn plays the character with far less complexity - a man on the downside of life overhyping what a man he is/was, letting that unravel under the gaze and gentle inquisitiveness of his beautiful but matter-of fact passenger. I can’t think of a better choice for that cabbie role!

Man... I lived through Siskel & Ebert and still tuning into Kermode & Mayo. You are on one my dude. Do you write at all?

It's a shame that this film will get overlooked because there's no action heroes, flying cars, robots fighting each other etc. It's a thinking movie and today with most people's short attention spans, they don't like to think. I like all kinds of movies and that includes thinking movies with lots of meaning. I haven't seen this movie yet but I'm excited to see it. It's not playing in my town therefore I have to drive 100 miles to go see it, 200 miles round trip. But that's okay because I do it quite a bit, I love going to the movies and I love watching Indie Movies, so, I have to drive a hundred miles one way to see them. When I do go, I make a day of it. I plan out my day with the movie being the focal point. It's all an event for me. Drive the hundred miles, go to some Antique Malls, Thrift Stores, get a Smash Burger, then head to the movies, get my popcorn and soda, kick back and enjoy the next two hours. After the movie I drive home the hundred miles thinking about the movie I just watched. Get home between 9pm and 10pm, feed my fur faces, wash-up, brush my teeth, then go to bed, still thinking about the movie. I'm a single 68-year-old man with 10 thousand movies in my personal collection. Yeah, I love movies, but I also play video games and I have a 2020 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pinball Machine in my living room. I'm just a kid at heart enjoying my twilight years. I plan on driving the two-hundred-mile round trip tomorrow. Can't wait to see "Daddio."
