@@darkhobo journalism has been bastardized, it is effectively useless. if you pay any attention to it you’re bombarded by thousands of useless things only for one real investigation, that usually bears little fruit or else the journalist would have already been killed by the cia.

My daughter graduated with a business degree. We live in a quite rural area so unless you work on the Navy base or contract you’re not making much. One year after graduation she had paid off all her loans. 6 years after graduation she’s making 6 figures and has caught up to my pay. That’s why we scrimped and saved so her family can live a good life.

Not quite. There is no "option" to get a Roth IRA from your employer, it's an account you buy yourself. If it's coming from your employer, it's a Roth 401(k)

@@ErikJ1218 You're right about no Roth IRA option from your employer. Yeah the employee needs to open on their own from a brokerage. Yeah do a 401K at work, and max it out if able. The takeaway is that some of us realize too late in life that we should have listened to the wisdom of our elders.

It's only 57% accurate. Employers don't offer Roth IRAs they offer Roth/traditional 401ks or other retirement plans. Roth IRA is a product you buy yourself.

Yeah but you’d need a graduate degree and have tons of student loans. I’ve met people with phds in anthropology very smart people but the money isn’t worth the amount of education. My husband himself has two graduate masters degrees in history and archives but he doesn’t make as much as he could have been in a different major for the decade worth of education he had.

When I was 14, my dad sat me and my 10 year old brother down and said, and I quote, “When you two move out, you cannot come back. Your sisters can come back as often as they need to, but you’re out of here.” He did reneg later because the reason I had to move back was two of my three roommates got married in a month of each other, me and the other guy couldn’t afford it and my next place wasn’t available for three months.

There was a 40-something guy in my undergrad speech class. He gave a speech on retirement investment and how $20/month starting immediately, could make everyone a million dollars by 40. It was the only speech everyone listened to and asked questions about afterwards🤔😂

He opened a roth account for me at like 19 and told me it grows tax free. I thought it was doing something for years. Turns out you need to actually invest it with a brokerage. Also he never bought stocks himself and play mr worrysome about the sky falling. Completely irresponsible

Mine f'd up to. he didnt teach me about much of anything. not saying he was a bad parent he taught me about large garden/small farming. without tractors... i have a tractor and way more land then he has... and i let my kids take apart everything mowers to legos to houses we ride tractors together and beat up my mazda truck together get it stuck in my pond.

Roth 401k would be provided by your employer. IRA is not provided by your employer, but there is a maximum income limit to be eligible.

A philosophy degree teaches people how to think, not what to think. My 24 year old daughter turned that degree in philosophy into a Master of Arts in War Studies, a career in intelligence and a commission as an infantry officer. Not exactly useless. Still, your videos are great!

When people say useless it's not because you can't make something out of it, it's because few succeed. It may have worked out great for your daughter, but for how many did it just not?

It's usually called that because the degree doesn't deliver positive returns to the average graduate. When people's avg returns by degree were tracked they found that the average bachelor's in psychology had a negative ROI. It doesn't help that it's one of the most popular degrees. It's good that your daughter succeeded, but it's important to remember that because one person succeeded that doesn't mean it's a good thing or something everyone succeeds at. if you tally up everyone you will ever meet in life then you won't even have enough people for a single data point. Our views are inherently biased by life experiences.

I know it’s just doing the funny, but just wanted to point out that you don’t need a specific job to have a Roth IRA! It’s an individual account, not tied to your job. There’s just income limits

For an IRA, yeah, but a 401k is always tied to an employer. Which is crazy to me. Seems like the taxpayer would be better served having a larger IRA limit, and to do away with the other retirement vehicles.

I'm getting a degree in anthropology! (With a minor in linguistics.) There are actually a lot of things you can do with an anthropology degree, especially if you continue to your master's and/or a doctorate. Personally, I'm going for a master's in archival studies after my bachelor's, and my end goal is to work in museum archives.

I worked with a guy that had a bachelor's of "political science history" from the university of Tennessee. His parents paid out of state tuition to send him there. From what he told me, he spent more time doing drugs and drinking than he did doing school work.
