It's no joke. Danielle Dufault's sketch-take on Daeodon is awesome - I mean this is both excellent and fearful. This artistic depiction really reminds me the Hellhogs in BBC Walking with Beasts. (Just imagine that you're a Hyaenodon confronted by this abomination when having lunch)

I still remember watching the Entelodont episode on the documentary series, _Prehistoric Predators_ and hearing Daeodon's, (then called Dienohyus) terrifying demonic squeals. I've been fascinated by these animals ever since. They must have been a real sight to behold, possibly the largest predator ever in North America.

This is great and all. But I wonder about the skull. Preferably the cheekbones. There was an artist representation of a hippo skull that made it look like a killer carnivore. And how the hippo skull looked, almost compares to daeodon. Again, I'm just saying. 🤔
@bobbie7618
@bobbie7618 Жыл бұрын
As I understand it, our idea of the extent of fleshiness around the cheekbones is based on the bone texture of the area, and a reconstruction as somewhere between the massive cheek muscles of hippos and the bony protrusions of warthogs is the most up-to-date.

They found footprints in New Mexico that are 23,000 years old. Humans came over from Beringina a lot longer than 16,000 years ago. I'm surprised such a recently produced video has such a glaring error. Humans came over at least 25 to 30 thousand years ago. A nice Navajo lady I met in New Mexico told me they had been here for thirty thousand years and I believe her.

How about Palaeocastor? These were the grassland beaver relatives that left mysterious spiral structures once thought to be some kind of tree root cast, which turned out instead to be casts of their burrows, some with Palaeocastor fossils in situ. They are (were?) common around Agate Fossil Beds National Monument in Nebraska. They may even have been contemporaneous with the entelodonts. Cool, but not very scary.
