with pressure build up in the fuel tank and knock from this paccar mx-13 engine in the morning on start up I knew this was going to be quite a invasive so here is a video!
with the cylinder head stripped we could check the injector sleeve hight and DAF mx-13 injectors but it turns out things aren't quite what they seem to be!

well done. as a yank dealing with bio diesel and incompetent help at truck dealerships, i am trying to learn all i can on injector issues.

Hey 👋 thanks for the comment 😀. Daf have just started pushing HVO here and with a 90% reduction in co2 emissions I'm sure It will become adopted as a new standard soon. I think from a preventative maintenance point of veiw I'd be looking at using an adative such as Power Service Diesel Kleen to keep thing in good shape. Hope this helps 😎

Its not terrible just kinda time consuming. We used to stand the block up on jack stands and porta powers and do the cams in the chassis, but i prefer to pull it and do it on the floor. Easier and safer. Funny enough I just pulled the pan on a Kenworth with an mx-13 epa 17 that threw #6 rod into the side of the block and shattered the air compressor. Never a dull day lol. I think on the early EURO6 so same version of the MX13 you had there ,we had an issue with diesel going in to the cooling system..I had a hose made up like yours for pressurising the fuel system ..You then remove the top rad hose ,pressurise the fuel system the same as you did ,and if the head is kaput you will hear the coolant bubbling away i still have the video on my phone ..A certain Mr Hayes was well impressed with it lol

Hey norb, yep this was euro 6 too not MY-17.i had to make that hose up too as I don't think it was in the DAF special tools arsenal, crazy how many different ways you need to apply pressure to systems to identify a fault. I'm just glad it WASN'T the injector sleeves as I think a new head would of sent it to the great African scrapyard 😂

@@TRUCKTECHUK I will bet there are people somewhere who can repair the heads ,.It is mad just how easy they are written off nowdays ..I swear one day that valve gear onthe MY17 will put my back out..On another bit of good news for me .on e campus i have no training to do ..all done ,even all the stupid free ones

I bet there is but would you trust it? Tube of gorilla glue and no spare change from 1k please 😂😂😂👌 It's all written off as people can't be trusted to do a competent job. We had this conversation with the guy who does our cylinder head work.......he has no-one to pass his trade onto! He's tryed younger apprentices but they lack the ability to comprehend the measurements required to cut valve seats ect. It's that or were failing to teach the younger generation correctly 🤷. As for training well done! I'm sure they will have some other course for you to do a refresher on soon like I'm sat in the peacock now after 3.50 hours of battling Birmingham traffic in the rain as I'm here @daf for 2days

Great job! BTW here is a poor man´s procedure of finding the injector blow by, already at an early stage before it causes real damage. We call it bucket boozing. Take the fuel lines of the tank and put them into a bucket of Diesel (1 Liter or so) Both lines need to be under the surface. Then start engine and wait for remaining bubbles to go. Then the actual procedure is: Speed up the engine to max revs and keep it for 1 sec. then release throttle in once (let snap back, as fast as possible). Watch the return pipe. If you see a trace of small bubbles after another 2 or 3 sec after release, congratulations: it is the smoking gun. Explanation: When the engine slows down from max rev to idle speed no fuel is injected. The engine works like a compressor instead. This pushes the air from the combustion chamber into the return channel in the cylinder head and it is swallowed back to the tank. Note: This DAF issue is mostly seen on cold engines. So let the engine rest before you go for bucket boozing. Check out our bioltec channel. We share our experience of 20 years working on commercial engines with dual fuel systems (biofuels etc...).

Thanks for the comment and the testing procedure. I will attempt to replicate this next time I have the same fault. I will have a look at your channel as alternative/ renewable fuel systems are something I'm looking at exploring to add to My high voltage E.V system diagnostics

Mate, gold content for DAF EURO6. keep going. many thanks Is true that DAF 460/510 Euro6 are better in terms of failures compairing with the newest 480/530 models?

Hey budacao, 👋 thanks for the comment and for watching 👀 😀 Sorry about the late reply. When you say newest models, are you referring to NGD? what you have to remember is that any new product that is released will require updates for the better. Take your phone, for instance, I must get updates for mine every other month. But anyway. What you have to remember is that the older generation has been around since 2017, and NGD is a whole new cab and systems not to mention more ecus. I suppose if we tested things until they were 110% correct, you would never get a new product 🤷

Hey how's things. You shouldn't do any programming with the engine running, always ignition on with the diagnostic computer *linked* to the vci/mux with a USB lead incase of connection dropout

Hi man I have to change my injector in my paccar mx 13 2016 . Is it just take the cover off and take the injector out and put a new one in .or there is procedure for that .am in Canada

Hi thanks for the comment. There is a process as you have a injector tube through the cylinder head which will need to be removed for you to remove the injector. You will also need to have the new trim code of the injector programmed into the PCI ECU for optimum fuel economy. DONT forget to change the injector clamp bolt for a new one as they are use once only and follow manufacturer torque specifications on injector clamp bolt and injector tube or it COULD end up costing you dearly......

Thanks for the comment. The injector injector sealing rings were at fault, hence the blow by/ discoulouration on the injector body

Couldn’t you do the UBD test in the first place? Then you know wich cilinder is under/over contributing. Right now we have a my2017 in workshop where the cooling system is making pressure. We bypass the aircompressor but With no succes. Then we tested the egr cooler but it didnt leak anywhere. We took the cylinderhead of to measure the cylinder liners, wich was alright. We also replaced the D- rings because there was coolant in the carter so 2 of them were broken, we replaced everything. Don’t have a clue where the pressure comes from lol

Id of exspected a unbalanced cylinder DTC but when nothing had showed up it got passed over to me due to the drivers complaint. I SHOULD of checked for bulletins FIRST #firstruleofdiagclub but I went in with symptom based diagnosis unfortunately. Have you had the cylinder head pressure tested? I take it your getting coolant out the overflow pipe?

Probably the compressor head gasket, put both coolant pipes into a barrel of water and see if it bubbles

@@georgehearn1703 we did that, no bubbles, our customer replaced the cylinderhead of compressor himself(he was a daf master technician that started a garage himself)

@@TRUCKTECHUK when the truck is idling and filling up the coolant it throws it back out, and if input the green dop on it, if i put it back off after 5 mins it releases very much pressure
