There is always some static in a broadcast, it’s normally so low that you can’t hear it. When they go to someone off to the side, they must turn the volume up so high that you also hear the normally imperceptible static. If they wanted to prevent this, they would need another microphone much closer to the students that they turn on when someone else is talking. Alternatively, they could skip the volume boost and instead put subtitles on screen. The volume boost is probably the easiest for everyone.

@@BakingAndGhiblithat’s exactly what it is. We’ve discussed the idea of an audience mic, it just hasn’t panned out. Yet. The volume would still need to be raised though unless like you said, the mic is much closer to the student. That would require either a moving mic or many mics positioned throughout the room.

@@citronfilms if my time on stage has taught me anything, it’s that people will always trip over cables, and they hate giving up a microphone 😅 i really do want to understand the questions and we basically can’t hear them already, so for now I would personally suggest subtitles. I do understand that that’s extra work and there are two shiurim now though! We really really appreciate what you do already and if I could afford to tip you a $500 bonus I would too!
