I have a 35 years old Dahle 155 pencil sharpener. To this day it still works perfectly.

The part you pull out actally allows you to choose how much you want to sharpen off. The more you pull it out, the more you will lose wood. I often don't pull that part out at all if I just need to refresh a dull point. Lovely review, thank you! Love that sharpener, btw!

I didn't know the amount length the face plate is extended has an impact on the amount of pencil that gets sharpened. That's an Awesome tip! That makes the 133 even better! Thanks a lot

I've ordered this guy recently, and it's the best pencil sharpener ever. The thing I love about is its economical way of sharpening. What I basically mean is Dahle has this mill cutter, which sharpens the pencil by scratching off the tiny layer of wood under relatively sharp angle what gives you less waste of pencil. This sharpener is the work of technical art.

I personally did not like this sharpener. Broke a lot of pencils, chewed up the glossy finish, and it was not really impressive. I prefer the Dahl 133 for sure, but this one I just was not happy with at all. I ended up returning mine.

Thanks for the tips on the sharpener. Nothing ruins a good coloring zen like whittling your pencils down to a little nub.

I certainly like the larger shavings cup on the 155 model, but prefer the 133. Derwent makes a similar sharpener like the 155, and I have the same concern with it - scratching/denting the pencil barrel. Those pointed tines that hold the pencil are entirely too sharp for my precious pencils. Also, the metal dial wheel for sharpness on the 133 seems more sturdy to me as well. Finally, the need to pull out and hold the sharpener open at once is too challenging when using the sharpener in your lap - not fastened to a desk. Overall, I am sticking with the 133 for sure!

Hello, I've been using Dahle 133 for years now. As I've no giant pencils (!), the Dahle 133 is able to sharpen *all kind of pencils* , including hexagonal and triangle pencils.

The reason I do not like the 166 is precisely because of the metal teeth that grip the pencil can leave marks on the pencil. It also seems you need a bit of hand dexterity to place the pencil in to sharpen it. I love the 133 you recommended before as it is a much better option. much better option.

I bought the Dahle 155 for $17 when Amazon was out of 133 and I was impatient to get started with new pencils! Expensive, but I figured that 150 Prismas are an investment so I didn’t want any problems. I bought Dahle brand because of your good review. Works great on Prismas. I only turn it 3-4 times. Yes, it leaves marks, it I figure it’s holding the pencil firmly so I’m ok with that.

I bought this sharpener few weeks ago and I love it! I do get annoyed that the piece doesn't stay out before sharpening. Other than that its great! Your review is spot on. Thank you for making this video.

What did the company say about stock for the 133? Is there a reason why they increased the price?

I have the Dahl 133 and I LOVE it. This one I don't think I'd like. I do not want my expensive, precious pencils getting marks on them because of those scary looking teeth. Lol. Also don't like the way the face plate didn't stay out when you pull it. Thank you for the review, Pamela. You are always awesome! I'm trying so hard to build my channel but I just can't seem to gain subscribers. Any tips or advice you might have?

Thanks for the review! I bought the 155 because the 133 wasn’t available at the time. Although it does sharpen well, I feel like it is more cumbersome, at least for my hands, to use. I am going to get myself a 133.

Interested in the cutting mats and in the sharpeners, I have the 133 and bringing it back and forth from Florida to Canada. Buying in Canada is out of the question as everything related to art and coloring is way over priced. It would make one less thing to cart back and forth….if I were to buy another one. Also I believe that the problem I was having with my Dahle was that the bin was full and it does not show too much from the front. I will be more attentive to this in the future…..thank you for all the informative videos.

do caran D'ache Luminescence and Dewent Inktense fit into the 133 ? I think i'd prefer to get the 133 rather than the 155 as I don't want the pencil barrels damaged

Just bought one. You put the pencil in first. Then you pull it out. The pencil will stay in place. Hope that helps. Ha, was messing around with that part too. But saw it in another video and it works…😀 Hope it helps. Thank you for the wonderful review.

Thanks much for the heads up on putting the pencil in first (to get the pencil to stay in place), as I much prefer the larger shavings bin on the 155.

Thanks for putting the finger on why it looked wrong. I haven't used one of these in 30 years and something was bothering me about the one that stays out.

I like the bigger receptacle, not keen that you bave to hold it when pulling it out and wish that there was a small, medium and extra pointy instead of having to turn it without really knowing what your pencil will actually look like but as we all know, once you find a place that you like, it tends to stay there more or less.

My dahle 133 arrived yesterday. I also found a deal on an electric sharpener for colored pencils to try for like when i got to prime new set of pencils to save my hand lol - is the AFMAT usb/battery one :)

As my grandfather always said "if ain't brought don't fix it"or "don't poke at 💩 that don't stink". I had to wait almost a month for my 133 and so freaking pleased with it. PATIENCE people lol💞💎🐧

I had to get the 155 because they didn't have any 133 on Amazon and the fact that it doesn't stay when you pull it out is the biggest pain in the neck. However it really works beautifully ad far as putting good leads on your pencils.

I am so glad you're enjoying my channel. I really don't know of an electric pencil sharpener because I don't use one. I worry that an electric sharpener would sharpen my pencils too quickly and eat them away. I am going to have to try out a couple so that I have one to suggest to everyone that needs one. I understand that some people may not be able to crank the handle on something like the Dahle 133 so I am going to look into this.

If I had a new tin of pencils to sharpen the inability of the 155 to stay out in the sharpening position until you insert the pencil in the sharpener would be a deal breaker for me. Dahle needs to correct that!

You can role a piece of paper around your pencil. This way there will be no dents left on your pencil.

I think you can put the pencil in first then pull out so fingers don't get pinched.

I have the Dahle 133 and mine doesn’t stay open. I have to hold it open like you have to do with the 155.

Yes, but it was months ago. I didn’t know it was supposed to stay open until I looked at this video. I’m afraid it’s past 30 days for returning plus they have come out with the new version of the Dahle 133 and it might not be as good as the one I have. Mine sharpens beautifully - it just doesn’t stay open.
