Dahlias DO open after picking! They open from BUD! Here's How!

Ive tested this all season, and Dahlias WILL open from buds, AND it extends their vase life. It is a common misconception that Dahlias must be picked when they are fully open - as they won't open any further in the vase. It seems like every flower farmer is saying this. I was saying it too... until one day I accidentally opened a secondary bud on a dahlia stem and wondered hmmmm.. why ARE people saying this? Has anyone actually tested this for themselves? I got to work. Last season I practiced opening buds over and over, this season I refined the process and finally filmed it so I can share it with you!
I encourage you to share this video around and get the word out! I also encourage you to start testing for yourself and work out which varieties will work best from your farm or garden.
Cheers to a new dialogue and Happy Experimenting!

This is the most interesting flower video I've ever seen, and I've probably watched thousands over the yrs. The time lapse was fantastic, thanks for thinking to make that.

That might be one reason I get a week out of my dinnerplates, I seldom pick them when they are fully open as I need them before that. I don't do the boiling water, but we are on city water that has chlorine in it which takes care of the bacteria. Loved the time lapse. Watched it both times.

We buy ours from Apack. They have the 10lt tub (around $200) and the smaller option is in T-bag form. Each T-bag is 16c and you just throw those into the bucket of water and the product disperses out of the t-bag. On the website it’s under the “preservatives” tab.

I have been getting better vase length just with the Chrysal itself. Just normal Chrysal. I don't have professional. Not as long as yours, though. I will try adding the boiling water step. Also, temperature makes such a difference. I notice it now the days are a bit cooler.

Has anyone had experience with using Chrysal Pro 1 instead of the hot water treatment first, and then into the Pro 2? I'm going to try that this summer, I think it will work.

Fantastic information! Do they have to stay in Chrysal 2 water all the time, or is it enough for them to hydrate for a day? It might be difficult to get the customers to use it?!
@phaedragardeness
@phaedragardeness 3 ай бұрын
While they are opening the chrysal keeps them fresh. Once they go to the customer it’s up to them! I sell all bouquets with a flower food sachet. I’m not sure if customers use it though.
