If you’re mentioning awards for acting, the guy who played the Dad was also incredible.

The Tony Hughes episode was so powerful I forgot what show I was watching. When Tony sees Dahmer from across the club, my heart sank. They did a phenomenal job.

I absolutely love how Jeremy states you don’t need gore to make this a horror series. I completely agree they mastered that for us as an audience.

The thing that I think stands out most about this mini series is that before it, we all knew who Jeffrey Dahmer was, but afterwards you remember names such as Tony Hughes, Ron Flowers, Steven Hicks, etc. just as much as you’d remember Dahmers. The victims are usually over shadowed, and I’m happy to say that this time wasn’t the same.

I also think Richard Jenkins should be considered for an award. He did a phenomenal job playing the father.

What episode 6 showed me is that that Dahmer shattered the hopes and dreams of 17 people and 17 families. And in my opinion that single episode truly defined Dahmer for the monster that he truly was.

Watched the entire show in one sitting through midnight. Tony Hughes was definitely one of the most tragic. He was so full of hope and you could see in his eyes the euphoria in having finally found a good friend in Jeffrey. Rest In Peace Tony

I found the side of the story of his dad living with guilt if he created the monster really heartbreaking especially when he never gave up on him and tried to understand him.

Evan Peters always takes my breath away. I binged the show last night... evan is phenomenal. his performance is just so haunting!!!!

The Tony Hughes episode was definitely a highlight for me. I thought to myself as I was watching it, “If I was just watching this episode in isolation and had no idea of the wider context, this would be such a charming story.” It made me desperately hope this was someone else who got away from Dahmer which made his demise all the more tragic when it finally happened.

I don’t see it mentioned often. But the guy that killed him was a great actor too. His monologue at the end gave me chills.

Episode 6 made me cry. He was trying to be great and his mama crying thinking of her last conversation with him just took it out of me.

Evan Peters and Niecy Nash absolutely crushed their roles. The dad was also great. Some of the best acting I’ve ever seen.

What's insane is that they never actually showed one murder....it was pure atmosphere. What a show, and to focus on the victims, the family and the wider social issues was perfect. 10/10

Crazy how well the show was even able to adapt John Wayne Gacys story momentarily to Jeffrey's story and it didn't feel like too much. It was done perfectly.

Konerak and Tony's deaths broke me. I spent hours googling all the victims and here I am on KZfaq still watching videos. I put myself in the shoes of the victims and the family, how horrifying it feels to know that your life is ending without you seeing your loved ones or seeing someone you love then never seeing them alive again! May their souls continue resting in peace.

When it comes to violence, sex, etc. I think most directors don’t comprehend how not showing it can be more impactful than being completely explicit

I also liked how it showed the devastation of Jeff's father... of him finding out about his son. You don't usually think of the heartbreak of the family. Usually we only think of the victims family.

The Tony Hughes episode was heartbreaking. That’s what “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” did differently than a lot of serial killer shows, normally victims are just numbers but here they were people with hopes and dreams.

The acting on the show was one of the best acting I've seen in a show this sensitive in a very long time, the casting directors did a phenomenal job

Growing up in Milwaukee, hearing people talk about Dahmer was surreal, he became a Candyman of sorts. Not that we played childish games to summon him (we didn’t), but his evil and malice was almost deified.

I almost fell off my chair when I saw Richard Jenkins as Dahmer’s father. He should be in the award conversation for best supporting actor. He KILLED IT.

The first episode made me the most nauseuous. I used to live on a farm and I knew what decaying flesh smelt like. Once it hits your nose you can't get it out. When I was watching Dahmer, I felt horrible for the neighbor who could smell rotten flesh and hear what was going on. If the police just listened to her, they could have stopped Jeffery from killing anymore people

I've never had a show make me feel the way this show does. I have to watch one episode a day. I can't watch too much of it because it makes me feel weird and kind of sticks with me all day. This show is a masterpiece.

I think what the new series did so well for me (as someone who was already familiar with the case) was underscore the selfishness and insecurity that ultimately lies at the heart of Dahmer’s crimes. Something that’s repeated a lot in the show is Dahmer saying “Don’t go.” or “Don’t leave” when his victims want to go or get uncomfortable. There’s even musical scores that have phrases like “Please don’t go.” scattered throughout. He was so scared of people abandoning him that he couldn’t let anybody go. He wanted to “own” them so he wouldn’t be lonely anymore. It’s really a tragic motivation for murder (although, of course it doesn’t justify his horrific crimes at all).

Just finished the series. Absolute disturbing and depressing. Rest In Peace to all the young and innocent victims 😢

Evan Peters will pick up an Oscar for this performance, this show is one of the most sickening and scary I've ever watched on Netflix. And what makes if worse is all these sick killings actually happened. And worse still is the numpty Police who had multiple opportunities to get this psycho killer very early on. But sadly the Police don't care about gay, black minority groups. In a way these are crimes as bad as what Dahmer did.

I have to say Richard Jenkins has another outstanding performance, he made me feel really emotional in his scenes, everyone’s acting was definitely top tier

I thought this series was gonna be campy or just the same stuff we’ve seen, but it was srsly amazing. Evan was incredible as Jeffery and really made him feel complex rather than a bland evil villain. And the impact to the families and community as well as police incompetence were very eye-opening. Everything about this story was tragic and very well done.

It was honestly infuriating watching those police officers completely neglect the situation despite being told multiple times AND THE FACT THEY NEVER GOT FULLY PUNISHED it was such a massive injustice. It's a side to the story I never knew about before so I appreciate this series taking that angle as well as learning more about the victims and families involved. To think this actually happened is unbelievable and heartbreaking, my heart goes out to the victims and the families :(

I’m so happy to see Niecey Nash get such a well deserved time in the spotlight and finally the praise as an actress she deserves. I’m glad Ryan Murphy saw such potential in her so many years* back when he did his first show, Popular, giving her a chance in the industry and continued to cast her in so many of his episodes and projects, even when much of Hollywood refused to see her potential. I hope she sweeps in the awards season, but even if she doesn’t this performance is such a knockout. Such an outstanding performance! Go Niecey!!

Evan Peters for me, for years has just been outstanding. He delivered a performance that sticks to you. You feel it covering you and making you feel awkward and alone sliding down your spine. During episode 6 i was thinking just love. Just love and this might stop. That is when i noticed the blue bucket in the corner. I had to turn it off sometimes. Everything was done too well.

The John Wayne Gacy scene was absolutely terrifying. So terrifying that I now want to see the same director, writers and crew do a similar miniseries with Gacy.

The Tony Hughes episode is one of the most heartbreaking pieces of media I have ever seen. My wife and I were both just a wreck.

I lived and worked in Milwaukee when Dahmer was at large. I had just graduated high school and my summer job was downtown. I could smell the chocolate factory where Dahmer worked. I saw the live broadcast on the news when they were pulling the infamous blue barrel out of his apartment. I was in the weight room at a downtown gym listening to two Milwaukee city cops discuss what happened the night that one victim was returned to Dahmer and I got a chance to talk to them to see what I was missing that wasn't covered in the news broadcasts that were highlighting police failures in the investigation. This Netflix series hits all the right tones and captures the horror of the events as they happened. I'm thankful for Evan Peters' performance and Ryan Murphy's creative hand in this project. They handled it with respect.

I loved how they integrated one of his victims (deaf kid) so well bringing his story to light and his family connection. I believe this is one of the best series Netflix has ever made but I’m not sure how much rewatch ability this will have for me

One of the most haunting series I’ve ever watched. I am usely not scared of any horrormovies or true crime story’s, but this portrayal? Just something else. It has gotten into my head, during night AND daytime. Even lying next to my sleeping boyfriend became a scary thing for me to do. Because it reminded me of the things i’ve seen in that show. I remember not wanting to touch him because his arm was really cold. I am wondering all the time: how could this happen without anyone seeing it for such a long time? Devistating example of failed systems. The law and justice system AND mental health systems that could have helped Dahmer at a young age. Tragic.. :(

This series was incredible. Incredibly sad, but directed/acted incredibly. That dude should win an award. I could rewatch it, it was that good.

Your point about the families is so on point and encapsulates our world now. The world is horrified by the event until the next scandal comes across the screen, but the families who are affected forever are forgotten. We lose sight that their lives have been changed forever! Excellent commentary!

I'm right there with you, it really stuck with me. I cried so much and really appreciated how they went into who the victims were and their families and the insane amount of injustice. Brilliant and heartbreaking.

Evan Peters singlehandedly reinvented CREEPY. What a performance. He was great in American Horror Story, but this is on another level.

I’m in a minority of people who actually only knew of Jeffrey Dahmer as a serial killer, but never knew who his victims were nor how he desecrated the bodies. I didn’t even see the trailer for the show but saw a tweet of one of the victims’ family members shouting in court and said “oh let me check this out!” Going into this blind, being my first time diving into anything for the story of his victims - I was crying. I was so disturbed. The first episode gave me goosebumps so hard when he said “because I’m going to eat it” I literally covered my mouth. I was so disgusted. As an Evan Peters fan, I didn’t even see him in this portrayal because I just felt so repulsed by Dahmer that there wasn’t a sense of Peters to him at all. Niecy Nash deserves ALL of the awards. ALL of them, because wow. Definitely a show I am glad I took the time to watch, and definitely one that I can’t bear to see again because of how hurt I am for the victims. I am glad this was my first and only depiction of the Dahmer because it was really not glorifying him at all.

I’m about half way through. I’m loving it! Creepy af, directed really well. I also love how it makes out (so far) that he is missing that filter between ‘thinking’ and ‘acting’ Like you can see he’s unconsciously planning to do something and ends up acting on it without realising

A while back Opie and Anthony (when it still existed) did an interview with the detective who caught Dahmer and got the confession out of him. I highly recommend it. He takes you through the whole night, and also gives some interesting insight into Dahmer himself, and about the failures of law enforcement up to that point. One of the best interviews I’ve ever heard.

What makes me infuriated about this story, is one of his victims, could have been saved. If the police had actually listened. But no they just ignored the women and laughed along with Dahmer and I just....even after so many years that same police department was like "oh we're gonna celebrate the retirement of these WONDERFUL cops" and people were NOT having it. It reminds me of the Petito case; if the cops had actually just LISTENED to her, you know the scared out of her mind victim she might still be alive today. The police also completely ignored literal descriptions of the Zodiac killer and had a run in with him without even knowing it. It just never changes.

episode six was so tragic and so genius and i honestly think i will never forget it. it was incredibly well made with how they portrayed his deafness with the audio etc. and how it was all from his perspective, but also, how it was so perfectly in the middle of the series. we got to know dahmer, his life up until that point, saw the horrible things he did and then suddenly - an entire episode from a victims perspective. suddenly making the audience see THAT side. setting it all up so our hearts all collectively SINK as soon as tony sees jeffrey looking at him from the bar. like the audience is just silently begging him not to speak to him, but we all know he does. its so painful and real to watch. then they talk and it takes an unexpected turn, pretending to give you some kind of hope when really you know its just sadness and tragedy. until the end just hits you like a truck again. and its perfect the way this episode was epsiode six, not episode one or two. we got enough from dahmers point of view to the point where that episode comes almost unexpected and makes it so incredibly chilling and tragic. because thats what it all was. all of it. it was all tragic. and the way they portrayed tonys situation made you realize that just once more. that episode was brilliant, i will never forget it. like i know i will randomly sit somewhere months from now and think about that episode and about tony. it was so fucking sad. so well made. rest in peace tony.

It really did affect so many lives and this series really brought that to light. 17 people and their friends and families had to and are still being affected by this one man and his actions.

this is by far my favorite Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy project to date ! The performances were top notch and Evan Peters performance was uncanny. Beautifully shot , edited, and scored . And the fact that we spend a lot of time with the victims and see how this tragedy was effecting them was a major plus. And i agree episode 6 elevated the show to a whole other level. During the scene where Dahmer (Evans) and as giving his testimony and went to youtube to hear the actual testimony side by side. I swear to you it was uncanny they sounded the exact same. Give Evan Peters his Emmy now

As someone who has heard the details of the Jeffery Dahmer case a thousand times, what really struck me in this retelling, was how awful his parents were. They completely failed Jeff (and his victims) in every way imaginable. Sometimes even while he crying out for help from them. They astoundingly managed to ignore every single red flag and in turn allowed their own son to sink into a world of isolation and horror. They took an already disturbed child, further damaged him with their selfishness, and then released him on the public.

This mini series was a none stop watch for me, watched the entire series in one setting. Very heartbreaking to learn some facts that I didn’t even know about this case. Happy to see how they acknowledge the importance of the victims and their families, not just the victimizer. Excellent job!

i started watching last night and im still shocked by the quality of this series, the cinematography will blow your head the way they did the long takes is just a piece of art, and the acting is just so intense and real that feels like your watching a documentary with high quality footages, this series diserves as many emmy awards as possible !!!

This show is outstanding!!! Incredible the amount of oversight that could have locked him away over the years. Even Peters is incredible.

Evan Peters as JD was expected to do the damn thing but Niecy Nash as Glenda was amazing! Richard Jenkins as his father also was great! Shit all three deserve an award for acting performance hands down! This was a 20 pert series and it took me 4 days to watch… it was intense and I had to take breaks watching this! Ryan Murphy has another masterpiece on his hand and also the entire crew on this project A+ to everyone y’all did a heck of a job!

I was definitely hurt the most by Tony . They really brought it to life considering Tony was unable to tell his side. Also loveee the emphasis of “ y’all did nothing “ delivered niecey Nash. Bravo ! And def felt the hurt of the sister who cut up on Jeff in court . Sheesh the emotion .

Just finished the final episode. Probably the best show ever made that is a real life crime story. and probably the most disturbing how i've seen in years. The one killing in paticular that caries through to the end, that one sticks with you. probably the best show to help you really connect with the murder victims and their families

The most aggravating thing for me out of the whole docu-series is the fact out of all the shit that man did with no remorse, this man had fans, getting letters and money from people. Having comic books made of this dude. Like wtf

Never felt like I needed a shower after watching any piece of media, until I watched the first episode of this. Cried a few times during it, especially with Tony's mother reading his piece about "... put a tear on the windowsill"... Broke me.

The recent series Blackbird did the same thing - dedicating an episode to one of the killer’s victims. It was very powerful because you saw this real person with her family and friends, knowing that she was going to be raped and murdered at fifteen years old. It made you really think about her parents, her sister, her friends, her teachers. The victim becomes more than a name or pictures in a crime file. They become real. They EXISTED and they should be remembered, not the people who took their lives.

What blew my mind the most in this series. It felt completely realistic like you were right there witnessing the real events of horror! The actors who played the father and the next-door neighbor felt like real people to me. 🤯

Enjoying this seems an inappropriate description but I appreciated this very much. It felt like you were almost there and it was just as terrifying when the victim’s end were not shown but implied. Including those who orbited Dharma’s world such as the neighbours. The futility of him every hoping to change what he was. This was a hard and intense watch.

I feel like if this series was a film that was just about a fictional serial killer and Evan Peters of course portrayed this so phenomenally I cannot stress enough, I bet you he would win an Oscar or an Emmy or a Golden Globes or something like that for his performance (cause obvs they don't give an award for something like a docu-series). Hands down one of the best acting that I've seen so far next to all the award-winning and critically-acclaimed films this year. WELL DONE EVAN! I seriously hope I see him more in movies in the future⚘

First time i had nightmares in a long time. It digusted me and made me cry. A true masterpiece. I never knew the whole story about Dahmer, now I cant stop thinking about it.

I literally just watched the show and finished just now XD. I will say the show was very tense and episode 6 with tony made me almost cry. He was such a precious wholesome soul and I was like okay maybe he will be another person to live. That was not the case and it broke me when his mom said he hasn’t come home. The one true scene that scared me was when he was with the 14 year old and I swear his eyes were a brighter color making him look like a monster. Now when I see the poster of his face I get a little freaked out.

Loving this series! Props to the team that brought together the soundtrack! All Around the World by Lisa Stansfield!!?! Evan Peters is perfect as usual. Definitely deserving of some Emmys!

This is such a good series and I haven’t been able to say this about an Netflix series in years!!!! I feel like they need to do one next on LA’s Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez. I remember that story growing up as a kid in California and used to be so scared.

I felt exactly the same, it was incredible, but I was so happy for it to be over by the time it ended. Deeply unsettling and depressing and fantastic

The people who played Daumer, his dad and the neighbor did amazing!

This show was so haunting. One thing it highlighted so well was how men can become victimized just like women. Where you see all the guys have a bad feeling at some point but push past it, and go along like many women have. Maybe he’s joking, or awkward or we’re going the wrong way etc. It’s shows how predators will convince you that everything is fine, come with me.

The documentary about Dahmer that's coming out on Netflix on October 7 is the one I'm really hyped for. It's from the same person who made the Ted Bundy Tapes and John Wayne Gacy Tapes which I absolutely loved.

The Tony episode, when Dahmer was struggling to use the hammer, I was like pleading Dahmer not to do it but you know he will, it was unreal feeling!

Evans Peters acting in this was amazing!! Episode one was intense.. definitely loved ep 6… not only because it was creative but because u saw dahmer struggle for once.. and it created an anticipation of what would make him cross the line Neicy was great.. but Evan Peters did a great job conveying his loneliness and abandonment issues.. how he walked and sat down closer to his victims.. how he talked.. his social awkwardness.. all i kept thinking was what toll is this taking on his mental state

I'm not spoiling anything, but episodes 7, 8, and 9 made me emotional. I have read many things on the case, but this series makes you want to think about the systems that failed the victims. If you haven't seen it check it out.

When he made her the sandwich 🥪 trying to make her eat it was very intense,because you feel his evil presence. This show shed light on the Victims who were people with names.

I don't like labelling these people monsters. They're people who do monstrous things. Dahmer's life was so tragic on a psychological level and I really admired his dad. What infuriated me was the police not properly investigating the injured young lad and then took him back, wtf!?

This is why I come to Jeremy's channel. Not only had I not heard about this show but even if I had I would have had zero intention to watch it. But, now, hearing from him that it takes this new approach, focusing on the victims. This is the sort of revolutionary shakeup that more true crime media needs to learn from! And knowing that Jeremy was really moved by this show gets me very excited to watch it. Thanks Jeremy. And thanks to all the people who made the show in the first place. Good work everybody!

Episode 6 was absolutely depressing and heartbreaking

The Walking Dead did the silent thing with Connie and it worked so damn well. Glad to see it’s being picked up in other shows. Silenced was definitely a stand out episode. I had to pause it to look at the name so I’d remember it, it was that good!

I remember the day that they caught Dahmer. It was horrifying to hear the crimes he committed. So far I'm in the 5th episode of the show and I think it's really well done.

i agree, pretty much 100%. I binged it straight, and I didn't sleep well. 6 was also the episode that changed the way i saw the series and mentioned to my partner that the moments that could have been splatterfests in a different production were handled well. I kept thinking of the concept of "gaze" in film. This felt like it lacked the "gore gaze" and i appreciated it as a viewer because you don't need to see it to know its barbarous and to feel the weight of what he did. The whole Gacy/Eclipse segment was really thought provoking in regards to the nature of evil and the self-delusions of a personal morality that can be harbored even by monsters.

I studied his case recently for college. I was shocked about how well they chose the actors and places to portray the real victims. I know that he killed many more people that we get to know in the show, and tbh I'd rather have their stories told instead of the chapters dedicate to Dahmer's past. However I do understand the need of context for the show, to get to know his past enough to understand what's happening. Watching this after hours of research for that study I had to do, knowing what happened, and knowing that what I'm seeing is somewhat accurate to what happened to those people... I mean... The detail of him in jail reading those letters from "fans", and knowing that right now there are people on the internet simping for him just because Evan Peters played him... I don't know. I just find this show very, truly interesting, and after watching it having no one to talk about it I now search for reviews like yours to finally get to a conclusion about what I feel about this movie

The first episode is absolutely horrific. The tension is incredible. The actual victim in episode one testified and the video is on KZfaq. Watching that after watching the episode is must watch.

Just got done watching, it played with my emotions the whole way. From his parents, to him killing these people, to the victims families, to the police and not wanting to take blame. It was very well paced and is hard to step away from it.

i really liked this series, it was a great encapsulation of everything and everyone involved in the murders of Jeffery Dahmer and it portrayed both the killer and the victims very well. somehow, they managed to tell the story on both sides leading up to episode 6 and merged them flawlessly, making the episode out to be very impactful and the highlight of the show. also liked how they didn't end the show following Dahmer's arrest and instead showed how his murders affected the victims and the community politically and socially. as well as his eventual death in prison. overall, the show has great delivery, pacing and writing, all while holding great accuracy and detail to the real story. it would be great if they choose to continue this show and make following seasons based on other serial killers.

This series made cry for the victims families. When they had to be informed that their loved one was found in the murder house with all those bodies. When the police brought that 14 year old back in the apartment, my heart sank. That was truly sad, the fact that that was real is so heartbreaking.

completely agree with you. it was for me a masterful storytelling. the build up, twists, loops and time lapse - kept me glued, invested and emotional. by the end, i felt it was more commemorative to the victims --- a digital memorial park so to speak -- to communicate a clear message that hopefully will not fall into deaf ears.
