Sweet ride!!! Being elevated make it so much better. When we go out to South Dakota we sit up in the back of my buddy's pickup. We have two shooting benches. In the last after noon - evening, sit with your backs to the sun & the prairie dogs have no clue what's going on!! Can't wait for the next video!!!

My '96 HiJet standard can is great so far. I've had it a month and put a 2" lift and about to install all led lights. I just received a snow plow for the front, which, I believe, add a 2" received to the front that I can also connect a winch. I wouldn't mind getting the jumbo, Mayville I will. Once you have one, it can turn into an addiction.

A 2" coil over lift with progressive springs and LED auxiliary lighting (front, bed and rear) are on my 96 4WD Hijet To Do list. I already have the LED lights so I just need to install them. The next big upgrade will be medium quartz gray Monstaliner polyurethane bed liner as a durable paint, inside and out. I have no need for a snow plow, but if you drive on salted roads, please use a good anti-corrosive coating underneath to prevent frame corrosion. I use lanolin based Surface Shield. Spray it inside the frame as well as outside.

Given that it’s a Toyota owned company you might not need to pull a fuse for the reversing alert you might be able to disable it through the cars system. Sometimes it’s a case of turning the engine off holding the trip button while restarting the engine and then options come up on the dashboard. There are Daihatsu certified mechanics online who might be able to help.

I got a 1996 4WD Hijet so I could drive it on the roads. I should have probably held out for a locking rear differential and air conditioning, but I love my kei truck. I've been driving it for over a month and have only driven my 4Runner twice, mostly to keep the battery charged. I've done a few small upgrades, as well as some repairs and overdue maintenance (it's a 27 year old Japanese farm truck). I'll be slowly doing upgrades all spring and summer - 2" coil over lift, new DOT rated mud & snow tires, Monstaliner bed liner "paint" job inside and out, ATOTO double DIN Android stereo with back up camera, etc. Heading out now to install the tiny front/rear dash cam. I try to do something on the mini truck every day. I don't hunt but I'm a bit of a gun nut, so you've given me something to ponder. 🙂

@@varmintermagazine - As is often the case with a solid well built vehicle, and is particularly true with the 4Runner, the Hijet can generally be maintained indefinitely if the frame can be protected from rusting. It's sad that these mini trucks live productive lives with nothing but routine maintenance in Japan for 25+ years, and are shipped to the US and are scrapped in five years from frame corrosion because they were driven on our salted roads. I'll be spraying the frame and undercarriage of my Hijet with Surface Shield, a non-hardening lanolin based anti-corrosion coating after painting the truck, before driving it on salted roads. It's messy stuff so not very pleasant when working under the truck, but IMO much better than the frame rusting. I hate frame corrosion. It's car cancer. Due to a Toyota manufacturer's defect, the frame rusted through on my new 4WD Tacoma at 91,000 miles and rusted completely in half at 137,000 miles. The psychotic weasels at the Toyota stealership laughed at my misfortune and Toyota Motor Manufacturing provided no compensation for their manufacturing defect.

Thats funny, similar to mine! Have the 2023 imported from Philippines so mines left hand drive, my son owned a hot rod shop, still had all his machines and etc, built an alum and ss camper box similar to the delivery box hijets in japan. side door setup to work with a side awning and encloseable tent area for summer camping. My son has the van version of these, and he built out a honda monkey into a bobber that rolls into a small trailer meant to look like an airstream hahaha, and he goes to events and cruises around on the little monkey. I need to find out where he got a front end kit to make it look like a little vw bus front end, very cool! His van hijet was also imported from the Philippines so its left hand drive too.

Hi Eric, would you be willing to share your thoughts on shooting benches? I am considering the Stable Table and would like to know how it compares to the BR Pivot. I'd like to get the BR, but up here in Canada they run $1150, while the Stable Table is around $320. Also, is the Stable Table usable for a lefty? My gf is left-handed. Thanks in advance!
@varmintermagazine
@varmintermagazine Жыл бұрын
We are working on a shooting table overview that will be released in May. In the meantime, the Stable Table will be the only one with a rectangular top that works for both right, or left-hand shooters. The Stable Table is not bad, when compared to the BR Pivot (I bought my BR-P from someone here locally at a very low price). The only thing lacking on the Amazon version of the ST, compared to the old style, is the cushioned seat. With regards to handling, the ST and BR pivot can both have issues with being 100% solid. There are small things you can do to lock them down more, but it never really goes away. However, compared to some of the other tables available on Amazon, either one is far better. IMO, I'd get the Stable Table first and use it for a bit before you spend the money on a BR Pivot. We have other options here in the States from custom table makers that blow everything away. Check out the DOA Shooting Benches, then give them a call and ask what shipping would be to your location. They are one of the best ones made out there. They would be priced in the range of the BR Pivot.
@ExF1Guy
@ExF1Guy Жыл бұрын
@@varmintermagazine Great, I think for the time being I'll probably go with the ST and then get in touch with DOA when it comes time to upgrade. Thanks for your advice! I'll be looking forward to the May video.
