One of my favorite quotes from The Compound Effect "When most people set out to achieve new goals, they ask 'Okay, I have my goal; now what do I need to do to get it?' It's not a bad question, but it's not the first question that needs to be addressed either. The question we should be asking ourselves is: 'Who do I need to become?' You probably know some people who seem to do all the right things, but still don't produce the results they want, right? Why not? One thing Jim Rohn taught me is: 'If you want to have more, you have to become more. Success is not something you pursue. What you pursue will elude you; it can be like trying to chase butterflies. Success is something you attract by the person you become."

Thanks for summarising the book in 6 minutes. The thing is this is something which many people know already, but yet do not have the patience to see the compound benefit. I reckon that's because there is no guarantee that even if we are constantly growing, we will succeed in the end.

This is wonderful! It can be easy to be discouraged at first when you want to see big results fast. But that pretty much has never happened! I'm becoming someone who is able to put in more and more work, just yesterday I spent all day working on my channel. It's the first day I've had where I was able to do that without feeling totally drained. A victory can seem small, but with CONSISTENCY, you are able to get a big victory!

I kinda started understanding this principle, when I first started learning about investing, like index or mutual funds all are great ideas, not because you put your money in there and not because you get that growth each year, but because everything that you put in the previous year is going to help whatever you put in this year to make even more money and same goes for skills, even if you learn like programming or lose weight or whatever it is, it might not be as important or as effective as you'd like it to be, but when you decide to move on to learning the next skill, the skills that you've learnt before will help you excel in the new one as well.

I am a big fan of Gary Vaynerchuck and I think this theory of the COMPOUND EFFECT is pretty similar with what Gary calls the microspeed and macropatience, it is about what you do every single day (microspeed) and keeping the streak in order to achieve the long-term result (macropatience). I've been in grad school for 7 years - taking it slow, one class at a time, while I work during the days. I have only one rule for studying - do a little bit of homework or reading every night during the semester, even if I'm watching MST3K or something else on TV while I'm doing it. I have one year left but I have been happy with the results so far. Daily consistency works. I don't feel overwhelmed and I make good grades. And I know I'm not going to immediately switch careers after I graduate.

The idea of compound growth is great. However, the hard part is measuring growth, esp. with many things in life that are more qualitative (e.g. skills and relationships). Also, growing constantly at a positive % in something is very difficult and it depends on what one is trying to grow in, but one thing that is common among anything that is being improved is that improvement and its growth starts diminishing and it becomes very difficult to grow more due to limited resources.

Love the explainer video. Great concepts. The principles discussed are solid. It reminds me of what the great Mr. Robbins teaches: 'The Science of achievement and the art of fulfillment'. There is a science to getting things, possessions, more money, etc. And it's all too easy to fall into the thinking that achieving more brings lasting happiness. But it's actually in fulfillment where true happiness is found. I think fulfillment can be summed up with one word: Perception. The way you perceive a situation determines the chemistry your brain/body will experience. I like this subject :)

i use a smaller log..e calendar...i put just one thing to do for the days ahead.. the day rolls around that's my focus .. if I get it done, I put a star in front of it... if I get it underway, I put a checkmark in front of it... I do sometimes put the second task on the calendar slot... if it won't interfere with the primary item... if i skip an item, e cal lets me slide it ahead to a new date/time slot .. I may not be as productive as some... at least I'm getting things done every week... this is one of Mel Robbins very concrete practical suggestions... the " just one thing" principle. ...works...
