I hate it when people comment crap like "let her be a puppy! She doesn't need a morning routine!" Two things, first of all she's not your dog so you don't have a say in it! And second rox only films her grooming Stasi we don't see her playing I'm sure she plays at least 8 hours a day, don't assume

You can tell that baby is loved, she trusts her owner and enjoys the process.

I got a puppy cut for my Shih tzu and I can tell she is so happy. All that hair is pretty but they are not comfortable. Puppy cuts are so cute too!

So excited to find this video! Has saved me from thinking - I cant manage anymore, I'll have to cut her - but you've given so many great tips . I now do it at home regularly and then once a week take her to a groomer to have a full brush out! She is the ONLY long hair shih tzu in my area of Melbourne, Australia! And when Cookie walks down the road - the hard work makes it worthwhile!

Everything was great and helpful! One thing I would suggest for everyone in the comments, start opening their mouths (gently) when they are young- this goes with grabbing all four of their paws. It helps with trust.

I have a very similar routine for my Yorkies and Maltese, daily. Our day isn't complete without doing this. They love it as do I. I have to say though your pup is sooooo well behaved at 8 months. One of my yorkies in which I rescued thinks he wants and loves being groomed he's quite jumpy. Love how you did the top knot. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

i use a childs tooth brush cleaning uner the eyes (tear stain) and then use cleaner (lavish spa) a lot quicker and seems to clean a bit better.

My Shih Tzu is 3 yrs old, and this video has educated me tremendously! No Shih Tzu should be sold to anyone without this kind of information

Stasi is beautiful! Look at that shiny coat. Very helpful video. I was not prepared for the amount of grooming this breed needs. I brushed my boy every other day since he was a puppy but now that he's older (and his fur longer) he's started to mat in certain areas. I really don't want to shave him down because he's so pretty, but I'm thinking I might have to start brushing him twice daily.

I'm only 14 now but I hope to go to this one college near me that teaches all about grooming dogs and I hope to have my own grooming business in my home or a small building near my home. :) I have four dogs now and one is a Shih-Tzu Maltese mix and we take him Across the road from us where this one lady has her own business. She inspires me to have my own :) We take him once a month because we don't want his fur long because we don't have time to brush it EVERY morning. Lol. Our other 3 dogs are just mutts and we take them to get their nails trimmed. Other then that we just bathe them in the summer in the driveway because they are not high maintenance dogs. Haha Sorry for such the long comment!!

I loved your video! Learned some techniques I will try with my Shi-pom Rocky. He hates having his beard groomed and nips when I try. Have tried since he was a baby, but I was not wetting the beard first and it did pull a couple of times.

I love that you brush her teeth as it is very important and I wish more people would do this. I just wanted to point something out to you if I may. The enzymatic toothpaste breaks down the bacteria and tartar on the teeth just by being put on the tooth. The scrubbing of the tooth is not necessary. I brush my boy’s teeth and do rub it on with the brush, but being brisk with the brush is definitely not needed.

My lil doggy is apparently (according to her rescuer) part shih tzu, her hair grows long and fast and she does look quite similar except she has a longer snout and her tail doesn’t chill on her back like I’ve seen with some dogs. We live in Australia so I keep her hair in a puppy cut so she’s never too hot and it’s easier to manage ( if it ever gets cold she wears her jumper, which is just a simple pink dog jumper) She is old and disabled and I will admit I like spoiling her (I have no idea what her first 10 years of life was like so I like to make sure she is the happiest dog in the world) she does sleep on my bed with me because she’s blind and she gets stressed when she can’t find me, also in the middle of the night if she needs to pee, she knows where I am so she can let me know that we need to go outside. I brush her once a day after I brush my hair, I also clean her eyes in the morning cause she gets loads of sleep in her eyes. She is missing quite a few teeth from 10 years of neglect so I brush her teeth like 2-3 times a week (she doesn’t like it very much but she tolerates it) Our morning routine is: 1) wake up to my lil pupper at 7:30am because it’s brekkie time (she just comes up and sits on me to let me know it’s morning) 2) we go downstairs and I feed her and give her her morning insulin dose (she’s diabetic) 3) after every meal she always pees no matter if she went right before she ate so as soon as she’s finished everything in her bowl I pick her up and take her to the garden 5) she is now very thirsty and has to refill her bladder 6) we go back upstairs and I get dressed and do my hair, all the while she’s having a nap on our bed 7) Then I brush her hair and clean her eyes And that’s how my days start, like clockwork Btw I am 14, she is 13. She has diabetes, a heart murmur, Cushings disease and she’s blind. Her name is Mia and she likes to make it clear that I’m her favourite person, she has never been aggressive, she doesn’t bark (unless she got on the bed and realised I wasn’t there so she’ll bark like twice to let me know she’s there because she can’t get off the bed by herself), and she loves everyone and anyone with hands, her favourite spot to be patted is her belly, if you go over to her and pat her head she will roll over so you can rub her belly or if she’s on your lap, she’ll lift her leg so her belly is accessible. The only naughty thing she does is she likes to eat the cats poop but of course I don’t let her, at first she learnt to “tip-toe” so we couldn’t hear her nails click clacking on the floor so we put in a gate.

What an adorable dog that sits there so lovingly. You can tell that she trusts you. You have approached her with love from the beginning and now, she sits there nicely, because she trusts you. She is really pampered and a dog like this should be. I have enjoyed watching some of the videos that you have posted. The way you pronounce the breed's name is perfect. To those who made negative comments about how you pronounce the breed's name, they should do some research. These are oriental dogs and at one time, royalty was the only people who had these beautiful dogs and were pampered.

A reputable show groomer says to only give these type of dogs, "Distilled Water" as it eliminates tear staining & lower maintenance. :-)

beautiful dog. excellent job. I'm soooo tired of seeing shih tzu grooming videos where all they do is shave the dog. I would never shave my shih tzu or pekingese. I just comb wash comb and then trim around the butt and paws. it's like they never heard of a mat comb for a fully matted dog.

Hello, I just wanted to point out that Stassi is ready for the red carpet! I have two Shi Tzus and I've worked with my groomer to develop a cute short cut, so I groom thoroughly about once a week. However, as Stassi's owner emphasizes, the eyes need cleaning every day to avoid a fragrant face. So, if you're considering the breed, I'm a fan and you don't have to spend so much time grooming.
