I am exhausted all the time. I used to have energy to walk, go places that brought joy, read, and just have a life. The Sunday feelings are now Sunday thru Thursday evening blahs. My health feels off and my mind is tired. Caffeine doesn't help anymore. On a positive note, I try to give kids grace each new day and will try to give myself grace as well. The expectations for teachers are crazy, but I will do what I can do. Take care of yourself.

I think since 2020, I've been literally just existing. I feel like I only have enough energy for the basics, but I still do way more. Hopefully this constant state of sick and tired will pass for us all. 💜

First, that jumper is beautiful on you. Hopefully there is now a smile on your face. Next, I hear you regarding exhaustion and observations. I had one yesterday and just could not get into it. A re-set of our own lives is definitely called for. Thinking about what we can do to help ourselves..... now that is a radical thought for women, black women and teachers.

Radical indeed. I am truly trying to take the mental time to figure that out, but it is harder than it sounds.

First and foremost, thank you for hanging in there, despite how you feel, because no matter how you feel, please know you are making a difference in the lives of people who watch your KZfaq videos, follow you on social media, and most importantly, in the lives of your students! When you spoke about your win that day, that made me smile and I hope you did too. Recognizing our WINS and things we’re grateful for leads us to receive more wins 🫶🏽 Lastly love the way you gave yourself grace to be ok with not being the overachiever in regards to the kagan strategy 💛 Thanks for sharing the activities.

Hi, Latawnya! I was trying to hold out on saying this because I know you are trying to endure, but your year sounds like my last year in the classroom. It was the year I ALLOWED myself to realize it was time for a transition--not because of any one thing but it was something I had to do FOR me--my physical/mental health, my personal and professional growth and because I wanted something different. There are plenty of places in education to make an impact. And if not in education, there are plenty of places in other fields to make a difference. Another thing I wanted to mention was if you haven't done so you may want to get your vitamin D levels checked as well. With high levels of stress and being in the classroom for the better part of the day, your body may be deficient in vitamin D. Love you and praying for you! And--just because people CHOOSE not to see your excellence and value doesnt mean you are off. That's on them.

First of all...hello amiga! I don't know if I am coming or going right now. There are so many thoughts going through my mind, so many questions I have about what I want to do and what I should do. It is very disorienting. I do a pretty consistent job of taking care of my physical health, but I thing I do need to take it a step further and get my levels checked. I just made a doctor's appointment to get things checked out because I just don't feel like myself and that does not feel great. Thanks for all the kind words and support!

The smile on my face does not mean my life is perfect. It means that despite my challenges, I choose to focus on my blessings.

The saddest part of being so tired is those who don't teach have a tendency say things like, "You knew what you signed up for." The thing is (as a person who's taught more than 20 years), I know it isn't suppose to be like this. I know it hasn't always been like this. Things have truly changed. We are not just saying this for giggles and grins. I'm not tired of you saying this. I'm tired of people not listening.

Exactly!!! It should not be like this at all and it has not always been like this.

I have been watching you since 2017 and teaching was my dream job. I have been a teacher now for five months and I’m already looking for a new career. It’s the worst decision I have ever made.

I think that you need a vacation. If you can't take a long one go away for the weekend to a city that interests you and explore it 😊.

Good afternoon, I'm watching you during my lunch break. This school year has been difficult and I don't feel appreciated. On a positive note your eye brows look beautiful. It makes your make-up look more natural. I had the same procedure and never looked back. Have a great weekend!

Yes! This! I'm a specialist teacher (computer science) and the technology coordinator. Juggling planning, teaching and grading for 14 classes, plus maintaining the technology and troubleshooting is so tiring . In addition to that this year admin decided to make it so whenever one of the specialist on the team is out, we the specialists would cover that persons classes. Unfortunately , depending on the day and how my schedule goes I've been the art, gym or music teacher along with doing my tech classes. Sometimes I literally have been up to three different types of teachers in one day! I'm fed up with covering. It makes me feel so unappreciated when I am then asked why certain things that are my responsibilities aren't done. We aren't getting financially compensated for doing the coverages either. My anxiety has been through the roof and I know I'm not the kind of teacher that I've been. But at this point... done is better than not done. So my motto this year is take as many breaks as you need and do the work even if it turns out sh*tty. lol

That is terrible that they are requiring that of you and not compensating you at all. I am trying to accept that this year things may not be executed the way I am used to them executing them, but it is hard when you have certain standards for yourself.

Hey LaTawnya, or any reader who knows...do you know of a book or curriculum that I can use to help teach my daughter about African American history? Not just the people and what they did but also the history that they don't teach in school.
