It depends on how the costs work out, I’ve been in situations where one person in a couple has only had soft drinks and another couple have devoured two bottles of wine between them. While it might look cheap to some for keeping tabs on what your food and drinks come to, when there is an imbalance like this it makes sense. Typically in groups I’m out with we expect to be paying our share, simple rounding up often covers any tip ( UK not stupid 20% in USA) so most order normally, that way if one couple suddenly offer to cover the whole cost when the bill comes for whatever reason no-one has been seen to have been taking the piss and ordering the most expensive items

That's too much. If the bill like $450 and it's like 12 of us, then no problem 🤷🏾♂️. I'm sure nobody would have objected to everyone splitting evenly for the birthday boy or girl. Real talk. But to expect MFS to pay an almost 5 grand tab (unless they ain't leaving a tip 😂) is beyond crazy. Like tf 🤣
@caroldriehorst116517 күн бұрын
@sugarandspice2136 same here. My sister always splits the bill evenly when out with friends. If I'm treating a friend I'll pay for her and myself but don't include me in the even split. Not because I'm cheap but I like a few drinks at dinner once in a while and it wouldn't be right to let my friends pay extra, so separate checks for me.

This happened to me. Was invited to a birthday party that I didn’t even want to go to because I didn’t have much money. Felt sorry for the girl who invited me so I ate before I left and just got a drink (it was a lounge so it wasn’t weird to do that.) anyways- she came to me and said the party didn’t spend enough money to have the table free so she expected me to chip in $100 when I was expecting my $12 bill. I told her straight up NO. Sorry. She was PISSED and told me “it’s MY birthday I shouldn’t have to deal with this.” Waitress didn’t want to give me my bill either! I told them they have the option of charging me $12 or I will leave without paying at all. Ended up getting my bill and cutting friendship.
@gamegeekx22 күн бұрын
@@LaneSims I know exactly how you feel. Something similar happened to me. A group of cool "friends" (not) invited me to join them. One guy orders a fancy expensive steak with a bunch of other food. Paid only a portion of it and left. The cool "friends" expected me to pitch in when I ordered the least amount of food. So stupid. Being generous and doing all that is a choice not a requirement. People pay their own bill and split the birthday person, and if the birthday person brings dependents where they would normally pay for the bill of the dependents like children then the birthday person pays for them. This is what is normal.
@tarynmoore5555Ай бұрын
This should be discussed when you invited everyone out. There are 3 acceptable scenarios here: 1) It’s my birthday and I want y’all to celebrate with me, so I’m going to cover it since it is my choice of restaurant. 2) I’m having my birthday dinner here. If you want to come it will be separate checks. So everyone pays for themselves. 3) someone else entirely invites you out for your birthday (maybe lets you bring a friend or two if they feel generous) and pays because they wanted to treat you for your birthday.

Part of the age of entitlement. When your birthday rolls around, it is not a holiday for others and you are not elevated to royalty. If you want to make it your personal holiday, go for it, but you can’t force others to support your self-elevation. Start these meals off with an understanding of who pays for what when the invitation is extended, and stop acting like others owe you something because it’s your birthday. They don’t. And who sits down in a restaurant and runs up a huge tab believing with total faith that somebody else sitting around them is going to pick up the tab? Next comes offense when restaurants see a large black party gathering and requires either a deposit or pre-payment.

I always come prepared and usually bring CASH MONEY HONEY & I keep track of what I spend. If we're celebrating someone, I always give money towards their Bill and the Tip. The person who we're 😂celebrating, i.e., Birthday, Anniversary, etc, should NEVER pay. I generally hate Group meals because there is always a "get over" trying to be slick and not pay. I eat beforehand, say loudly "Ill have an Appetizer and perhaps 2 drinks (Uber/Lyft) because Im not paying for broke ass people! ALWAYS BE WEARY OF THE ONES WHO GET UP EARLY AND ROLL OUT!

That's correct. I cannot stand people getting selfish on their birthday. We all have one. It doesn't make you special. If you have a birthday monthlong celebration, you have a lot of problems.

If nothing is discussed and agreed to, you pay for what you ordered. Do not assume goodwill - that's called extortion.

This is so ridiculous! I have always gone out with a group of friends for birthdays etc. We always split the bill and paid for the birthday girl. We always established with the server what goes in each bill in the beginning. We don't even split the tip. We tip the server according to the cost of our own individual bill which usually means the server ends up with a better tip in the end overall.

That's half the story. Guy invited his girl for a birthday dinner. She invited her friends who ordered up big, then expected man to pay for all of them. He disagreed, and they all tried to shame or blame him into paying.

Cultural failure
@kathyw.31464 ай бұрын
This has absolutely nothing to do with culture. This is a group of people who tried to take advantage of a large gathering by ordering foods and wines that they knew that they couldn't afford. With the thinking that people who ordered within their means and drank water were going to split the bill for their champagne tastes. No, MAM!

And thats why upon being seated, you always inform the server that you are paying for YOUR FOOD ONLY.

Separate checks especially with shines. Sketchy

What a waste of money, no dinner is worth that much. I wouldn't even enjoy it thinking about the bill. Once my company took us to mortons - I would have appreciated a $150 cash bonus much more!!
