FYI. I use an inkjet printer with regular paper all the time and it's fine, you don't need to use photo paper or need a laser printer. Nice work.

This is helpful to me, because I ran out of tissue paper for my gel plate printing and the art has mostly been put onto thicker paper. The thicker paper is fine when the print pulls as a nice, complete print or a suitable background print, but if it is only so-so, but suitable for layering and decoupage, the paper is just too thick. In the past, I have just split it at the corner of the card stock and pulled the back layer off, but that is risky. This seems less likely to rip through to the front, or become uneven. You should try gel plate printing! You can do photo transfers to the plate and then apply it to your work, or make your own original art and apply it to your objects! Love your channel!

SO helpful! Thank you very much! Can I decoupage an image onto the front of a natural wood cupboard without first painting? I want to keep the original look
@beebuzz9593 жыл бұрын
Have you considered printing onto wax or parchment paper, then carefully without touching the ink, transfer the image to the wood, then sealing it? If you try that, tape only the top two corners to a regular weight paper. Otherwise it's likely to jam. And you may have to play with it for your printer. But prep your wood first with how want it (like stain), and measure where you want it, maybe mark the outline why tape. I haven't tried that but I want to, and I read a tutorial. Good luck with this!

These days you can buy color laser printers - I just bought a super HP brand for like 600. You can get them down to 300 and other brands like Brother for less. It really depends on whether you sell your work and can recoup the cost and how many features you want. Features like auto duplex , wireless direct from mobile devices, security features, etc make them more expensive. But for craft only you can find a couple hundred and in terms of security... just unplug it - someone can’t access it if it’s not even plugged in. Same for your desktop. You will get the best results with Matt or flat finish printing paper. And if you want a professional durable item, you want it thin and Matt and then varnish in thin layers many times... until it’s like the image is embedded in the wood.

Hello Iveta. I see you posted this 4 years ago but I just recently found your channel. I have a question please.... You are using what looks like glossy photo paper. Thanks for sharing your tips! I have a project where I’m trying to apply songbook covers to plywood for a cabinet I’m building. The paper covers are card stock with a glossy, waterproof coating on one side. I’m applying them paper side down with the coated side up. I’ve only experimented with polycrylic so far. The paper is curling up and won’t stick down flat to the surface. It doesn’t matter if I try to pre-wet the paper with water or polycrylic, I can’t get it to stick down flat. Any ideas or techniques? Thank you so much!
@IvetaZiedina3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I think in this case you will only be able to stick it down from the back, of the paper has waterproof coating on it. What I would try is still wet the paper to loosen it up. then use some really thick glue, so instead of using mod podge or decoupage glue , I would use carpenters pva glue coz it tends to be very thick. I think the only thing that will help with sticking it down is holding it down on all sides. If you can lay it flat then maybe you could put something on top of it like a press. I had a similar problem with decoupaging a Christmas card on to plywood, it kept rolling up so I had to hold the edges down until glue thickened up. Hope this gives you some ideas on how to get this project done!
@sandiegodan3 жыл бұрын
@@IvetaZiedina Thanks so much. It certainly does. I was starting to think in that direction. The waterproof side is the display side for me. It's going to be tedious since I can't let the glue contaminate the display side while making a collage out of all the book covers. The covers are mostly overlapping 8.5x11 sheets and I'm covering a 3'x4' area. I want the integral look of the decoupage process so I'll experiment with some more gluing and coating options. I'm hoping I can still polycrylic over the glued down pages to give it a finished and protected look.
