As an actor, she's only responsible for her performance and ability to work well with her scene partners and the crew. She did her job. The failure of the sequel trilogy was not in the acting (with some exceptions), not in the special effects, the stunts, the music, the costumes or the cinematography, it was in the choices made by the producers, writers and one director, who's name shall not be spoken. I saw Daisy in The Marsh King's Daughter not too long ago and she's an excellent actress.

I honestly feel bad for all the sequels actors, who by and large did a great job acting but still got the blunt of the criticism for things out of their control

The blunt went to Kennedy, Johnson, and Disney, and to a lesser degree (unfortunately), Abrams. The criticism of Rey was most always the character, not Ridley.

Can't fault Daisy. The writing did not serve her character but she made the best of it.

Daisy was never the problem - if she had better directing, she could have been a fantastic actress. She had so much potential that was wasted by awful scripts

I sympathize with Ridley. I was a big fan of Rey in TFW and then... I can still feel the bit of anger rising, but I have never gone on social media to spew vitriol at her or Rian. I do wish her the best, though, and hope it doesn't wind up as an albatross around her neck.

Rian Johnson deserves the lion share out of him & JJ as JJ had to work with the mess Rian left him. Needless to say both films are a stain on the Star Wars canon

TLJ is divisive, for good reason. TROS is just poorly done.

Interesting thing to add is that a lot of what was filmed wasn’t even in the movie, rise of skywalker is just a movie that needs to be two parts or just longer

I wish we got to see Colin Trevorrow’s Duel Of The Fates over Rise Of Skywalker, that film built on what happened in Last Jedi and was a better conclusion than TROS.

Rise did build off Last Jedi, oh i dont know THE FORCE BOND. TROS just expanded on the ideas in TLJ. What are you talking about

i just rewatched and they aren’t that bad. i’m also new to star wars so maybe im not a gatekeeper of the franchise just yet n hating what they put out isn’t my first instinct

The direction was pretty bad because it was so aimless but the main reason people hate them is because of everything youve missed from the original books that people had adored for years. They wanted to see the books adapted because they were beloved and fit the story very well and instead Disney chose an incoherent rehash of the original trilogy with no unique factors to it whatsoever and ignored fans when they were told what they were doing was not what people wanted. If you were to go to the Legends stories youd immediately see why people are so hateful of how they treated Luke and the story as a whole

@@WereSquatch That is Absolutely not why the sequel trilogy is hated. 90% of the movie going public haven't read any Extended stuff and do not care in the slightest that Extended stuff was taken from Canon. You seem to love the extended material, That's awesome! But most people who watch the movies don't even know about it. Try going up to someone and explain Luuke to them. Baffling!

I watched star wars movies before watching new trilogy but I honestly didn't really find them as bad as people were saying. Maybe cause I'm not die hard fan of star wars universe, so I missed where canon was butchered or didn't mind it. This trilogy is no masterpiece, but it's enjoyable to watch

TESB was divisive once, then ROTJ was divisive, then it was the special edition, then the prequels, and now the sequels. It's been the same pattern for four decades with Movies and TV shows, shit on the new stuff and then what came before will go through a resurgence.

Yeah, everyone HATED the prequels - they were relentless mocked and ridiculed. Now I speak to young people in their 20s and they often pick one of those three when I ask which is their favourite Star Wars movie (a surprising amount say 'Attack of the Clones'). So "we will see" what happens with these ones and how people feel about them in another 10-20 years.

This falls into the fault of JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy and Disney she was beautiful and played her part the best she could I never felt her range of acting was an issue like I did with twilights female lead. Really the script was at fault. CGI was perfect, acting great, I did feel the Kylo ren acting was alittle over the top but 99% of the issue was script.

I thought it was way better than Force Awakens initially as it took chances, borrowed from Lucas's actual ideas for Luke alone on an island, etc, and it was an original script, not a copy of the originals. But the more I watched it, the more the poor writing left me with a terrible feeling after watching it. The fleet out of fuel sequence, where Holdo's concealment of her plan gets most of the fleet killed, but isn't acknowledged as such. Also details like there isn't a single shot in the final battle of the resistance getting a kill aside from Rey.

Yeah, I dunno if divisive is the word I'd use for Rise of Skywalker, lol. Maybe "despised?" I can think of very few people who will stick up for that movie.

Yeah idk why the audience score on RT is so high but that’s typically the defense people use to argue it’s divisiveness. I haven’t met people that still defend it. For stuff like TLJ there’s actually people that defend it and while I’m not one of those people, their love of the film put TROS to shame because of how few people care about it the same way.

If you only know a few "who will stick up for" TROS, then you either have a very small social circle or only truck with those of your ilk. When a movie has an audience score of 86% positive with over 50,000 verified reviews - projected over the world to encompass the millions of people who saw TROS - then you have a film that's enjoyed by millions of people. Sadly, many easily-swayed people allow themselves to be influenced by vocal minorities when it fits their agenda, and there is a very small slice of a certain demographic who continue to whine and rant about the sequels - TROS in particular. However, that minority doesn't represent the vast majority of people who liked the film. No matter how passionate an opinion is, it can't stand up to facts and statistics that say different.

@@warrior1563 What adult would go out of their way to defend something trifling like a fantasy movie about space wizards? That's a discussion for 8-year olds. The point I made was the ridiculousness of internet wanks making grandiose, unsubstantiated claims that are easily disproved. The OP posits that TROS is more despised than divisive, which isn't the case. It is, in fact, quite the opposite.

Most Star Wars content is pretty naff, and i say that as someone who loves it. A New Hope is decent but very dated, Empire is pretty much perfect, ROTJ is a 6/10, Phantom Menace had a few good ideas and set pieces hidden amongst a sterile, dull film, Attack of The Clones is ugly as hell to look at and is just straight up shit, and Revenge of The Sith is a half decent film hidden amongst more horrendously ugly CGI. I can't be even be bothered to rate the sequels.
