i used ferrofluid EFH1, and after 2 months of not using the reel the oil hardened which made it hard to spin. just a heads up not to use EFH1. was bought from ebay.

Thanks for the response. I respect your opinions. I saw a vid saying that Magseal will be included in the new Daiwa Fuego LT a reasonably priced reel at 100$. I may give it a try.

Thanks man!. That might have been my friend Chris. Goes by the name Shipwreck on StripersOnline.. My feeling with the new fuego. Daiwa for whatever reason is trying to lock up that 99$ price point like they did the BG. He did confuse me a bit when he told me it uses their version of Ci4 for the frame. When my thinking has always been Zaion is daiwa's version of ci4. Either way when it comes out I want to see how it compre to the bg. The prototype was very nice.. Im going to do a full magseal tutorial soon

What is your opinion on the magseal tech? Does it actually do what Daiwa claims? Is it worth the extra trouble to service a magseal reel vs non magseal reel? Does a magseal reel need less servicing compared to regular a reel?

In my experience using the saltiga which is fully mag sealed at every entry point other than the main shaft which is sealed by a lip seal. It does it's job. When i first serviced the reel after half a season which included heavy surf use, dunking, and occassionaly reeling while submerged (only a fe w inches) The internals were brand new. The grease which is translucent....looked new. To the point I didn't de grease and re lube. I opened it up about 2 months ago after more hard fishing. And found the exact same thing. If you submerge reels it's a good habit to open your reels and inspect for water intrusion...even if you fish VS/ zb/ torque reels. cleaning out mag sealed bearings can be a pain. I found using a waterpik to clean them out resulted in the best and fastest. reapplying the mag fluid was quick and simple. Servicing intervals can be greatly extended if you don't submerge your reels. To the point where if you don't service your own gear...and are the type who just fishes and forgets until there is a breakdown....YOu may get years out of them in freshwater before an issue pops up. And it's not difficult to do if you take your time. And much of the mag fluid can be retained in place if you are careful. They are simple reels mechanically....Simpler than say a stradic...Just better materials and precise as a rolex.

I erased with medical petrol all that mag craf and soaked pinion collar with oil, NLGI 00 oil. They leave reels dry of real greases because it interferes with that magseal frap.

Genuine question. Unlike you I'm not a DIY expert. I have a couple of European Daiwa mag sealed reels now discontinued (Cast izm 25 QDA). I think it's just the main body that is sealed. If I ignore the Magseal will it damage the reel. I mean I only use it in freshwater so I'm not too worried about ingress. Or will it damage the reel in general if I ignore the magseal. Hear no evil. See no evil. 😂

this seems counterintuitive. I have some experience with precision ball bearing because I used to play competitive roller hockey. We used "ABEC" 7 ball bearings and one would never do anything to them except clean them and grease ever so lightly. This seems like it would gunk them up.

wait so what type of grease/oil lubricates the ball bearings themselves?
@TackleAdvisors

i used krytox 225 grease.....but any corrosion inhibiting bearing grease would work fine. I like the blue marine greases from OMC and yamalube, Really liking what i'm seeing from the corrosion x grease (very sticky) And i believe a similar soap base to the $$$$$$$$ krytox.

Where did you get the fluid? I've been hesitant to purchase some of the new Daiwa reels because of the mag seal bearings.
@TackleAdvisors

I sourced mine directly from Ferrotec last year. The little bottle is 3ml and (don't quote me on this) costs around 100$. And as you can see...a tiny bit goes quite a long way. I used it for 6 months and am confident that it works (i spoke with a representative of ferrotec and discussed my application and they recommended the product in the video) I also have a lower end ferrofluid they sent me (30ml bottle that costs around 30$ but have not used it.) I've been in contact with a few other people who were not able to source it directly from Ferrotec as I believe they are more of an industrial non retail small batch company (though your mileage may vary)

The fluid is expensive and we may not even be able to purchase it? Where the other people trying to purchase less than 3ml? This mag sealed bearing thing is such an annoyance. I don't normally have problems with any reels that don't have mag sealing. It's like they created a solutation to a problem nobody had.
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 7 жыл бұрын
It's cool tech. ANd it holds up well. Though i've read online that some have had it "dry out" I'm not one. The stuff I uses is probably the most expensive out there. The other cheaper stuff would prabably work too as it's not a high pressure system. Just don't buy any of the junk from amazon that uses vegetable oil :)
@misterrso
@misterrso 7 жыл бұрын
Some of the newer daiwas are nice enough that I may jump in. I've been procrastinating on getting a Zillion TW SV because of the mag seal. I may just bite the bullet and try to get some fluid (maybe cheaper) when it's time to service it. I passed on a Saltist and went with another Saragosa because of the mag seal also. Missing out on some good reels because of this. Your tutorial makes it look pretty simple as long as one could get the right fluid.

Owning the Gosa SW and stella sw...and owning a fully magsealed sw reel. It's literally 6 of one half a dozen of the other. Rubber seals wear...and they swell when used with non compatible grease. Failure comes with no warning. Mag seal can become contaminated from outside oils and fail...no warning. For fw reels mag seal is cool n all....But I'm up in the air as to whether I'd service it or replace it with an appropriate sized standard bearing. (for fw baitcasters) For spinners...I like the tech. As it keeps any and all forms of debris out of the ar clutch...so no corrosion or raspy clutches. For the line roller bearing...I like it alot.

Only a very select few. I have their kyohga which is the only one I have had that I planned to take apart. Though I haven't yet. And I believe it's located at the pinion.. When I bought the steez sv tws reels I ordered them pre launch and took a picture of them in a cylinder of water to be a funny play on Mag-seal... But there was nothin mag sealed lolol (so that WA was a big waste of time)

Tackle Advisors lol i actually glad to hear rhat the steez dont have mag seals, i have 15 steez i have to clean install new bearings, oil and grease. I have 6 steez103h reels so i bought 6 ss sv spools to put in them. In theory that'll make them steez sv it good quality bearings and that aftermarket spool right?

@@jakeorr23 damn dude I didn't know you rolled that deep in the steez... I'm not honestly a Daiwa spool wizard. So I don't know all that much how the daiwa spool swaps perform.

Tackle Advisors the ss sv is the same frame amd spool size as the first gen steez. Ill let you know how it works out lol, my dilemma is what brand of bearings to buy, ceramic bearings with no oil are very high speed but not smooth I'd rather have something that is quiet and speedy that will help me throw lighter baits easier. My favorite setup right now is a sv steez on a 7'1" phenix feather light action. Ive been using your scooby doo rig with it on 8lb braid to 6lb flouro leader. If you get the chance, try the phenix feather line of rods

I'm with ya on the shreekiy bearings. Some times it's just nice to here nothing on the way out. And sadly I don't know of outside of hedghog who sells good stainless beaings. (do not pay any attentin to abec rating....many tourney casters use abec 5's) DUde the coolest thing about that rig is experimenting with different baits to wacky rig or nose hook.....and where and at what cross section the baits work the most desireably. I swear it's all I use anymore. It's enough that I'm trying to work with a mfr to get weigts specific to make them
