Sometimes flicks flop but you can tell when an actor/actress gave their all. In this case, nope. Case in point, when she says "you don't need to know anything going into this film." Nope. It's like going into an interview having done no research. A simple Wikipedia search and a few hours of reading would give you all the context you need to know about the character your playing or the storylines she's involved with. For example, I don't watch anime. But sometimes the stories catch my attention and I read up on the plot points of a certain story. Then when friends who do watch anime bring up those shows I can still talk about it with them like I know what I'm talking about. Sometimes they get surprised I haven't watched but know certain details.

They completely skipped over the fact that Dakota Johnson herself said that fans can “sniff” out if a production is BS and it’s usually BS when the industry/studios think that the audience are not smart enough and can be easily entertained by the low quality, pandering material that they make in these films, especially comic/ superhero productions now. Johnson went on to say that she believes audiences are extremely smart, in-spite of what the industry believes, and it’s that disconnect from what is who the fans and audiences, truly are, which leads to movies like Madame Web to fail-- so very hard and now, very often. Honestly I think ET left out the other things Johnson has said about the film, not only to give Sony, it’s distributors, investors and production partners the “proper face” which is expected for them to have given this box-office FLOP-- BUT because it’s entertainment news agencies and outlets like ET that help and promote the hype marketing machine for films like this, despite knowing from their own industry sources, from screenings to critical studio reviews, that many film and tv productions are petaling garbage like what Madam Web turned out to be-- and just like so many others, promote the narrative (as part of damage control so many times), where it’s toxic fandom that’s the blame, and that marginalized groups need representation(i.e, “a voice”)-- despite the fact that the reality is, more times than not, those same marginalized groups(that I’m part of too) are often part of the same fandom(collectively) that pans the film, is critical of the production and the motives of those who made it: ironically, we who were also, supposedly, “target” audiences, see the films/tv shows for the BS they are.
