Dale Jr. and co-host Mike Davis relive a busy weekend for Dale. First, he tells all about his trip to Darlington Raceway to pace the field with his restored Chevrolet Nova that his dad once raced. He talks about the whole experience including telling old racing stories with family during the car ride down, seeing the industry’s reaction in the garage, and what it was like getting on track. Both Dale and Mike then address the disappointment of NASCAR on FOX not showing the Nova on track.

I’ve followed the 2 + years of progress you’ve made in restoring this beautiful DEI Chevrolet Nova, from the day at the auction to the day you drove it in front of thousands of Dale Earnhardt fans in the stands at Darlington and those who were only able to see it on KZfaq. I’ve seen the restoration photos while it was being torn down and I’ve seen you run it around the JRM campus. It’s such a historically IMPORTANT vehicle in your father’s legacy, and one day soon I’ll be seeing it in person, as I saw it the day it won at Daytona. Great job, Dale. Your daddy’s still smiling from ear to ear.

Jr. got one thing wrong. The car wasn’t the star. His dad was. 20 years on and he’s still the name that all other drivers are measured against and the one all the fans miss. I’m sure it was good for everyone to see that car make laps that day.

He didn't get it wrong. His dad is gone, all that's left is the Nova. It's a tribute to Dale Sr.

@@susanbezio1529 For many many generations Sr. will still be there. The car is an embodiment of the man and what he meant to so many.

Please get rid of the flicker transition between live video and pictures. It's quite disturbing to the eyes. Otherwise, great to hear the story of the journey of the #8 Nova.

Love the car but i have 2 questions. Was beating down the floor under the seat something Dale did on all his cars even at Childress? Also I know few people like them but why not put the car back with the original style V6 engine it ran with? I loved those old V6 motors back in the day.

If you need help on restoration I’d love to try and help I’m just a Deisel mechanic from Lagrange Georgia but I love history and have wanted to make time to work on race cars at some point as a bucket list item
