garanteed if he was still alive he would be so disrespected. being called an "old head" by kids who dont know much about anything, atleast that seems to be the trend in most sports right now. but i agree, he definitely would hate the sport in its current state.

He would hate they can't work on and modify the cars, and they're all basically forced to drive the same car nowadays

This comment comes months late, but you guys don’t get the premise that Dale Earnhardt KNEW the sport and the business of the sport better than NASCAR Brass, and would’ve shaped it to HIS liking, NOT the other way around! His “empire” might’ve rivaled Rick Hendrick’s, or Roger Penske’s by now (definitely would’ve beaten Gibbs into the ground…) and could’ve been more influential a team owner than ANY of the players running their fiefdoms today! And think of how different the sport would be had he merely survived that Daytona wreck but his driving career was over? He’d probably be the one making the call to keep the sport about strictly AMERICAN Auto manufacturers. There might not be a Toyota racecar anywhere to be seen. But then again, there might not be the innovation in the sport for “soft walls,” the HANS device mandate, the COT, and all of the other safety innovations that’ve been developed in the decades (wow, DECADES!?) since his untimely death… There’s so many “What Ifs” to consider if Dale Earnhardt were still around today…but one this is true - the sport WOULD DEFINITELY BE BETTER with him in it today…

I was a new fan to NASCAR in Jeff Gordons rookie year and mainly became a fan of his bc of being the same age but wished Dale would of been there and could of retired with a proper send off....wish he coulda been there to see Jeff retire from full time racing and certainly would love to see what NASCAR would be today if Dale was running it.

Dale Earnhardt was the last of a dying breed of drivers. Nobody has ever come even close to the level of leadership and drive as Dale

So I wonder who's the driver that has their respect today? Is it one of the veterans of Kevin, Denny, Kurt? Or somebody like Kyle Busch who also has team ownership, Kyle Larson or maybe even Chase? I know they don't like the fact that they've decided to air their dirty laundry in public but somebody has to have that role, don't they?

Nascar was built without drivers crashing each other out, or one driver doing it to the other drivers. Kyle Petty often spoke of the decorum those guys built up over time. Bill France, Jr. could have stopped it quick if he would have told Dale, you put them in the wall you out of the race immediately, you hurt of kill someone you never drive in this league again. I always believed I was going to watch him hurt or kill someone live on tv. Sadly, it happened.

Dieing sport. 65% to nascar 25% to the race teams 10% to race tracks. Btw Nascar owes a lot of these tracks and keep taking away races from guys like Roger Penske that own tracks that used to have 2 races a years.

Ok this is what’s making getting ticked off right now because if dale didn’t get turned by #40 car when he crashed off turn 4 he would’ve help his son dale jr to win his first championship and I’m speaking facts right now I noticed sterling marlin turned dale sr in turn 4 I just investigated the whole thing about dale’s death at Daytona

If one chooses to view the events of that day objectively the cause of wreck is obvious. The 3rd place car was driven by the owner of the cars in 1st and 2nd. The driver in 3rd was also great friends with 1st place driver and father of 2nd place driver. The 1st place driver was the holder of the title most starts without a victory. It should be painfully obvious to anyone that reads the aforementioned facts that the 3rd place driver was going to do everything in his power to ensure his friend that has never won a race is going to win the biggest race of the year in the car he owns. By doing that he also ensures his son a second place and therefore his team a 1 - 2 finish. I have no doubt the plan in the 3rd place drivers mind was a 1 - 2 - 3, however, the primary goal was 1st and 2nd finish in that order. That meant he had to back up the field. He was acutely aware that backing the field up, especially off a restart, comes with the risk of being moved out of the way. When viewed objectively the 3rd place driver is responsible for the accident that occurred.

@@jdoe9518, truth is cruel sometimes but you're spot on. Dale knew the risk he was taking. The rest is just racing, boys. He could have backed off but that was not his style. I'm old enough to remember that before he was known as the "intimidator" he was called "Ironhead." I also remember the most famous two questions in Nascar being, "who's leading?" and, "where's Dale?" If he was in the race and on the lead lap, he was a threat to win. I didn't pull for him but I respected him greatly.
