Yeah, watching Ward Burton on race day, you wouldn't know it. He's very serious about racing and super focused.

I heard him on race when he came back and drove that 4 car which was so bad he described it on the radio as "runnin like a 3 legged goat" Hilarious, although he was serious as hell about it.

Ward was always my favorite driver. I think he’s a awesome guy and I wish he would have got a top ride back in the day!!!!

Kyle is probably the closest to tjat we have. He says what he really thinks and doesn't care what people think. Especially with the media but its deserved. The other day i saw a press conference from the 500 in 2019 and he stopped a reporter in the middle of his question because he didn't have his facts and history right. I am 13 years old and i feel like i know more about Nascar and Nascar history than some of the reporters do lol

True. He didnt sell out. He reminded me of harry gant, cale yarbarough, david pearson.

I honestly did not know one fan back in the day. That disliked Ward Burton.

@@Ghostmotorfinger Agreed. I was a die hard Dale Sr fan for many years but also being from Virginia, had to root for both of those Burton Boys from South Boston, VA.

@@Ghostmotorfinger I was a fan because Ward Burton said what he meant and didn't have a mean bone in his body and raced everyone clean as possible...unlike some of the 'fan favorites' from back in the day.

@@normanbyrne9868 Same for me except not being from Virginia. Couldn't dislike Ward or Jeff back in the day. Made the races Earnhardt's cars weren't competitive in more barrable.

He carried the sport a long ways. How he didn’t crack or just plain leave the sport is truly amazing. Reminded every week for years of how much the fans missed his dad.

The thing I've been noticing lately is when Jr explains how he was able to very quickly become the face of Nascar he admits conversations he had with those in Nascar that he wanted to be proud of him and how those conversations kind of steered him onto the course he continues to follow up through these days and the respect he's earned over the last 20 years and I think his commentator jobs as part of the booth crew on TV has helped him have his sort oobjective looking at what's happening with Nascar and how he wants to help steer Nascar in the direction he was raised to believe it should be going and I think Sr and grandpa Ralph are both proudly looking down and saying "the 👦 is doing good

God damn. Ward was right. Junior wasn't expecting such a huge compliment out of the blue, but Ward was right.

I've been saying for awhile now JRMotorsports is part of Dale's legacy and what dei should have been. Keeping veterans like Sadler and Justin in competitive equipment, believing in Brad and seeing his potential. Those are things Dale did, who knows how well Steve Park and Mikey could have done had things gone differently, as it was they became race winners because Dale believed in them when nobody else did. That's what Dale's legacy is to me, seeing the potential in a driver that nobody else did. Were it not for Teresa Truex would have won a championship years ago, but as it was he stuck it out, fighting for everything he could and when the dust settled he's a 3x champion (2 in Busch) and continues to be a threat every week.

I was not a big fan of the Dale,but have tons of respect for Jr and his sister. Also,after watching the one with Kerry on it,they are real honest people.

This is now easily my favorite podcast. Especially the ones with any of the older gen drivers, owners, or crew chiefs. I listened to both parts of the Andy Petree one this morning and it was just as good. Jr is really good at this. His Dad would be so proud of the man he became.

@@bertmustin I was a paramedic, but my job was a Captain on the Fire Crew. It was my crew (as well as myself) that cut the roof so that the ambulance crew could get him out... one of the worst days of my life 😪

That is what always got me. They are brothers and sound nothing like each other, even though they kind of look alike. Even Jeb and Harrison have different accents. Maybe Jeff was more of a bookworm and hung out with the nerdy crowd and maybe Ward was more involved in the hunting scene and being a backwoods Virginian.

Jeff always said, it was because Ward grew up in the South end of the house!

One big thing from that race I weirdly remember is Todd Bodine spinning like 3 seperate times by himself in that 26 Discover car.

That's right Chris......we were sitting in the Anniston Tower that day, and I'll never forget seeing Bill and Dale help each other down the banking down towards turn one. Bill took a vicious hit into the wall in the tri-oval and was shaken up pretty bad, but he refused a stretcher. Dale was shaken up too and went over to check on Bill. It was really neat to see two legends who have beat an banged for so many years, come together as wounded passengers just along for the ride, as they both climbed into the ambulance. It put a lump in my throat, as I was huge fans of both of these guys. Talladega. Man, I could write a book.

I read in a book called Wide Open that Ernie never called Dale after that wreck, and the next week at the Brickyard, Sterling Marlin had to be held back from kicking Irvan's ass in the garage. Of course, there was animosity between the two, with the way Irvan left the #4 for Yates. They didn't call him "Swervin' Irvan" for nothing!

@@tagnut1952 That is the coolest thing I’ll hear today! I never was able to go to Talledega but it’s always been on my list. I watch replays of the races there all the time. I remember in the post wreck interview in 1998 Dale Sr. Mentioned that the fire had singed the mustache hair and he just chuckled and said “I’ll have to grow some new ones”. Dale Sr was one of a kind.
