There is a great story in D.W.'s book about when he arrived at Junior Johnson's racing team. Junior expected his drivers to all work on the cars and not just sit around and be prima donnas so, he pointed to a stack of tires mounted on wheels and told D.W. to "Bounce them tars." So, He went out there to the stack and took each mounted tire and bounced it on the ground a few times and stacked it up and got another one. Eventually Junior came out and asked: "Son, what the hell are you doing?" D.W. told him he was bouncing the tires like he told him to. Junior shook his head and pointed to the tire balancing machine and told D.W. to "bounce them tars." (Meaning balance them tires) I cracked up when I read that.

I can listen to Darrell all day, he can tell the best stories.

We truly need to appreciate the “old” school guys while we can because when they are gone some of the best stories in NASCAR history will be gone with them. DW was definitely not one of my favorites being a 3 fan but really appreciate his personality and passion for the sport, great interview!!

THIS is a prime example of why I love this podcast: the amazing ( and funny ) true stories from retired veteran greats like DW. It's literally priceless. Stuff most of us would've never known about otherwise.

My dad and I started going to the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in 1970. I believe DW had moved down the year before. I saw him win a race on his roof. After several undefeated weeks I saw Dave Marcus beat DW in a match race. I saw him win his first Cup race in Nashville. So many great memories...

I love listening to DW talk about his early days. You guys need to get Bobby Allison on while he's still around.

Just listened to part 2 man it brings tears to my eyes to hear DW and the guy's talk old times. The legends get togethers are unbelievable to hear the old timers. Love the job Jr and Mike are doing 👍

There are few things sweeter than Darryl telling Dale Jr a story about 1980. I've listened to this a few times and I don't get tired of it. KZfaq keep on recommending it.
