I admit I know nothing about horses and, with respect, its like this gentleman is speaking a foreign language.That said, I can appreciate the fact that he strives to keep the horse as comfortable as it can be.

Just came to comment that I've been using a D-ring myler bit for just over 2 years. Horse is very comfortable, and understands cues much clearer. I feel, anyway. Used to ride in just a standard 3 piece mouth D-ring and the horse would toss his head at a stand still, just hated it. Doesn't happen anymore - he eats fine and is very comfortable in his myler. No fighting or evading the bit. I do use one a lot of with tongue relief. these bits are worth the price tag.

Love my Myler bit! My horse loves it even more! What a great company too! I had a question about my bit so called the company and got to talk to Dale! Not only was he a nice guy but helpful too. You can really tell this Family cares about horses and cares about their product. I highly recommend these bits to anyone who wants the best for their horse. I use your mb04 and mb06 for my Iberian warmblood and he loves working in them..we got our first reserve champion on father's day and did our first 5 class riding division 2 weekends ago we did fantastic.. on Sunday September 9th we have a dressage trial.. Thank you for making such great bits

I trained race horses for years and then spent many miles on them including retraining them for show. We don't really want them to pull or be cold jawed. Anxiety and excitement too much enthusiasm can create a horse that really pulls hard or won't stop. Not everybody is blessed with good hands either, the lack of time and a place to work with the horses to teach them more and keep them softer also creates a hard mouth/ hard or anxious mindset. I do like your comment of going in a small area and using the halter and lead ropes with no bit. When starting young horses and driving them I always snap the driving lines to the bit and the halter thus limiting the amount of pole and transferring information as a combination as well as protecting their mouth more if they would get excitable. Thanks for all your good work and effort to make better bits.

@ 3 minutes I'm gonna stop you right there. The keepers on a full cheek are only there to keep the bit in place, steadier in the horses mouth and keep the bit FROM rotating. It does not cause the bit TO rotate when there is rein pressure. It's not a curb bit. It's a snaffle.

I wonder if he actually meant the hooks on the bit are there to stabilize the bit vs a hookless bit? So in turn, keepers for a full cheek snaffle works similarly?

Okay but wait.. I use a level 3 Dee version, in the discipline: Dressage. But my horse is in the beginning of the dressage, and has a very sensible tongue. So if I put a level 1 in, she won’t react well on it! *Sorry for my bad English

I have always wanted to try a Myler on my horses, but they have always been out of my budget. Hopefully now I will be able to pick up one this year and try it :)

If you can't invest in good materials, perhaps you should find a rider who pays a monthly fee or wait with getting a horse. :)

Lol thing is, I'm a full time student, and until I graduate my money earning days are over. Once I start earning money again, I can invest in a Myler. Mylers are good bits, but they aren't a necessity. You can do anything in a regilar loose ring snaffle :)

Radioactive Bunny i am a student to, i know the struggle :) haha. Luckily i am able to work to jobs next to my studies. My horse doesnt reallt respond so good anymore to his 'normal' bit.

I like the design but it is so difficult to find an MB04 bit with an "option" of a curb strap and two rein placements (like the new western d, kimberwick or pelham) in size 5 1/2" Oh good grief, not that I have one, which way does it fit in the mouth?

Bits are complicated. It takes a rider who really knows what he's doing in order to tell the horse what he wants of him without going too far and hurting him. Unfortunately, any old idiot can plant himself on some poor horse and start yanking on a metal gear in his mouth. That is why I am not happy about bits. Because riders do not know how to use them and they end up really hurting some innocent animal, and they even blame the horse. The problem with bits is the riders. We cannot ban the riders, so I am afraid the bits are going to have to go, so as to deny them access to a tool that is simply too dangerous in their ignorant, stupid or plain mean hands. The horse industry has proven incapable of selfregulating and the horses are suffering because of it. That is not fair. So we eliminate the risk factor. It's the only way. I wish we could eliminate the riders, but alas, that'll never fly because the riders bring in the money. Horses are simply being sold off and sold out. They pay the price for the stupidity and greed of the horseworld. This man really means well, and if only half the riders would listen to him, it would make a huge difference, but it's a difficult subject. It's a lifetime of learning. Modern riders don't want to put in that much time and effort. They lease a horse in some commercial barn and visit the animal an hour after their full time job. There is no way anyone can become an accomplished horseman in that timespan, but they just pick up any old bit from the tack shop and expect the horse to understand and if not they will hurt him. Poor poor horsies. What have they ever done to us?

the issue is the lack of information out there when the equestrian is standing in the tack store trying to decide what bit to choose for the discipline and horse they are riding. If bits came with instruction on what it is originally intended for then the equestrian can make the right purchase. Until this starts to happen you will see miss use of the equipment. There is a reason why horses and humans came together in the first place and that will never change. There are evil and good people in every industry, doesn't matter what it is. Our world is changing and the training is getting better. My horse and the other horses at my barn adore there humans and clearly love being used and getting the attention.

Bits are a pain compliance device. I choose not to subject my horse to bits. I use a rope halter and reins.

sonseere10 they can be a 'pain compliance device' if used in the wrong hands... in the right hands they are an object used to communicate to the horse what the rider wants, and aids them in understanding the riders signals

Kate B--------The use of a hackamore or rope halter with lead line converted to reins can communicate the riders signals as far as the rider wants the communication to go. It takes time to develop the great mutual trust and respect, but well worth it. It can be taken further, to just the neck. Then further by not using head or neck.

sonseere10 ok but saying that 'bits are a pain compliance device' is not correct, you can achieve the same thing nearly the same way with or without a bit, a rider with soft hands and clear messages is not using pain in order to get the horse working correctly and happily

We will agree to disagree on that one. Granted, the use of soft hands with subtle pressure and good release using proper timing, rhythm, and feel are to the benefit of the horse relative to the opposite. If you do your technical research into the mechanics of how the various types of bits function throughout the range of action and add in the details of the horses physiology you will find that metal bits do function on increasing degrees of pain. Very subtle pain on the low end of the range to head high, mouth open, rearing pain on the upper end of the spectrum.
