The Tropicana Las Vegas has been the center of attention lately, because its owner, Bally's Corporation, has (maybe?) inked a deal with the Oakland Athletics baseball team to lease them land and make room for them to build a new 33,000-seat stadium where the Trop now stands. The historic hotel/casino is scheduled to cease operations on April 2nd...so we figured we had better get over there one more time, do an overnight stay, and reminisce about what this particular Strip property means to us, then and now. We invite you to join us!

My first visit to Las Vegas was back in November of 1983, I was in the Navy and on leave heading to San Diego for my next duty station and decided to stop in Vegas for a couple days. I didn't know it at the time but there was amiddleweight fight that weekend between Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran. All the hotels were sold out according to my cab driver except for the Tropicana. They were in the middle of a renovation at that time but still had a few rooms available. So my first ever stay in Las Vegas was at The Tropicana.

Paula and Dale, thank you for another great video! Y'all are sweet, warm, friendly and absolutely enchanting! I never stayed at the Tropicana yet I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane. I'm sad the Tropicana is closing and even more sad for the reason. Dale, I enjoy hearing your stories of your time performing in Las Vegas. I can always hear your love and enthusiasm for what you did and being a part of Las Vegas. Thank you again for a great video! Your cousin Mike from eastern NC.

I believe the ceiling IS being saved. IDK its exact future. We visited LV 5 times a year for over 10 years from Valencia in CA. And I don't think we were in the trop twice. It looked pretty cool! We did the Rio-Harrah's-Bally's-Flamingo loop with Ceasars. And stayed a lot at the Hilton. Used the tram a bunch! Before the prices on everything skyrocketed.

Thank you so much for another special vlog. My wife and I, my brother and his wife were fortunate enough to see Keely Smith live in the lounge there. I love the Tropicana! So sad to see it go. The stained glass ceiling is so beautiful, I wonder if they are going to save it? The pool area was one of my favorites on the strip. I’m always sad to see the older hotels close, like we’re losing a piece of Vegas history. Thanks for going there for those of us who can’t get there before it closes.

I hope somehow they can save that stained glass. The salmon looks great! Paula's sandwich looks great as well. Wonder memories and photos. Definitely a beautiful view. I love that corner. Great memory of your impressions, and of being in the Tropicana. Loved the video!

We used to stay at the Tropicana back in the 90s. Looking back, it was a ton of fun. I was a kid then and loved the huge pool and arcade. Such great memories here. I haven't stayed there since but i regret that I won't be able to by the time they close. We used to attend karate tournaments there. I also remember follies bergere, but I was too young to attend. Thanks so much for the amazing videos. It's a Sunday ritual for me and my wife, you feel like family to us.

Ah the memories!, Something similar happened when they closed the Stardust, we where lucky to be there for the last 3 days it was open. The Tropicana is full of memories for our family, it's a shame she has to go down for "that gaudy monstrosity!" (ocean's eleven Quote jiji) they are planing. I sure hope they just build another Resort and not the baseball stadium, it would be such a traffic nightmare , if the do have any success, which I doubt, the A's ownership has such a bad reputation than even in Vegas they will mess up. Great look at the old lady, The grand old Tropicana, another Icon that will soon disappear, Great video as always, great hosts, thank you very much Dale, thank you very much Paula, you guys are the greatest!!

We stayed in the Tropicana in 2018 for our honeymoon. I am very grateful to have spent time and dined in this hotel. We had a fantastic view of the strip from our window and everything we needed was in walking distance. Sadly the two times I’ve been to Vegas since that trip I didn’t go into Tropicana. I’ll be visiting Vegas for the 5th time in April and I fear it’s too late to see it again based on the news I read. Also Dale I’m so pleased you got to visit and relive your memories.

We used to stay at the Trop so many times! The last time was about 10 years ago and I remember we had an issue with dim lighting and they comped our stay! We stayed at the Trop a few times before they renovated the rooms a few years back. Room was ok with the bamboo and mirrors over the bed(woo hoo). Problem was there wasn’t much to keep you there amenity wise. Had a nice pool area but not much in the way of restaurants. On recent visits we never even set foot in it. Such wasted potential.

A great nostalgic look at an iconic property. I never stayed there, but went on property several times through the years. One memory that came to my mind was from the early 1990's--my mom and I stayed at the then-new MGM Grand across the street, and we saw the Folies Bergere show. Early in the afternoon of the day of the show, our tickets included a guided backstage tour with one of the women who appeared in the show, which was a nice added bonus we didn't expect. One thing I noticed in the video prompts a question. While Paula is onscreen eating, the TV in the upper-left background is blurred or pixelated. Was that so we viewers are not distracted, or is it due to licensing/legal reasons of what is being broadcast in the background? As always, please keep the great content coming!

I don't recall ever staying or playing at the Tropicana. Great walk down memory lane. The stain glass ceiling above the tables is amazing. I am amazed that Rich Little is still doing his show. God bless him. Hope he is having lots of fun with it. Here's the thing about sports in Vegas. The NFL venue where the Raiders play is the most expensive stadium in the country. I have to believe that the hockey games are expensive. Have to believe that the MLB games will be expensive as well. I just can't see it. Last 2 NFL games I saw were in Buffalo NY. Around $160 for a nice seat back in 2021 and 2022. Now I did some work for the Las Vegas Stars (then 51s, then Aviators) and I can tell you I loved the intimacy of that stadium including the clubhouse area. That's the way it is now I get it.

The Garden Rooms are the oldest rooms on the Strip, oldest building at Flamingo is from 1977 and the oldest at Sahara is from 1960. Tropicana had the first swim-up blackjack tables on the Strip. Siegfried & Roy had their first show at the Trop and Sammy Davis Jr. had his own theater. Folies Bergere was the longest running show (1959-2009) on the Strip.

I just started going to Vegas a few years ago so I don’t have any memories of Tropicana in its heyday. It’s crazy that in Vegas what was once the biggest, nicest hotel in the world is tiny and basic compared to the newest properties. That’s just how fast and how much things are always changing there. And Dale, you have to switch to Video poker. Keno has the worst odds.

It's so sad that showgirl revues are just a memory now. Besides Folies, I was fortunate to see Lido de Paris at the Stardust, and Jubilee! at Bally's. Dale, Paula, on my last visit to the Trop (too many years ago) I thought the stained glass ceiling was more brightly lit (backlit) than it is now. I remember how it gave the casino floor a nice, bright, sunny glow. Am I wrong? Memories are a wonderful thing to have. Hopefully they never get taken away from any of us 😔

We too saw those classic production shows, more than once - truly the best of Las Vegas! The ceiling was refurbished in 2010 with the big renovation…maybe they dimmed the backlighting then?

@@DaleMcKenzie You're probably right about a possible change occurring during the renovation. Probably to be more energy efficient? Sadly, my last time there was in 2006 😢 I have watched, and loved, every video you have posted (for years!) and 'like ' them all. Thank you!!

Thank you for this video!! The Trop will always have a special place in my heart; stayed here the first time I went to Vegas. That corner is one of my favorite places in the whole world and it will never be the same. I even was lucky enough to catch Rich Little's show, too. Believe me when I say I'm right there with you, Dale. Just devastated. Thank you both for giving the Tropicana some send-off love!

I have a deep-rooted connection with the Tropicana. My mom and stepdad used to take us there countless times between 1993 and 2000, and we always had a blast. I recall playing video poker with my mom and even suffering horrible nosebleed once the staff where amazing and in the middle of it she got a Royal Flush and a handpay! OMG.. those times. We caught a few shows during our visits. The highlight was when my mom got married at the hotel; they were such regulars that most of their trips there were comped. It's disheartening to hear that it's being turned into a baseball stadium. I wish it could remain as another hotel instead. Ugh. I am going to miss the Tropicana!

I can really tell how much you two like this place. Nothing like good memories of old LV and I've got a few of my own. As regards those chocolate chip cookies, my memory may not be functioning properly, but as I recollect the last time I stayed at a Doubletree there were no cookies! I think they might have been a victim of Covid.

Dale and Paula this was a great video. I feel so touched when Dale started talking about the Tropicana It was quite moving. This is a sad day for Las Vegas history. I had the pleasure of stepping in that place maybe once and twice or maybe three times in total of all of my visits in Vegas. That Stain-glass roof is everything and I hope that they save it and put it in another hotel. Hopefully, but what will be real cool if the A’s new stadium would adopt that stained glass roof. I am so sad to see this go.

I worked the Folies Bergere show back in the 70s-80s and from there I was at the Riv. Broke my heart when they tore down the Riv and now the Trop. I wanted to come back for a visit and stay here but unable to make it before the April date. Thank you for doing this.
