"That's why you have me darlin, I never learn my lesson." That's when you know J.R. has got your back. Even in his olden years, J.R. is still a badass!

Linda Gray was just fabulous as Sue Ellen, first during the original run and then 2012 -2014. She was born to play that role.

He was nominated in 1980 and 1981, but lost both times (to Ed Asner [Lou Grant] in 80, and Daniel Travanti [Hill Street Blues] in 81).

It was also nice of JR at the end of the scene to try to patch things up between Sue Ellen and Bobby's wife, Ann. He and Ann didn't exactly get along, but JR could see Ann was hurting. (I don't exactly recall the storyline, but Ann spilled the beans on Sue Ellen's bribe when her ex-husband threatened her with never seeing her daughter, who she thought had died but was hidden from her). What JR said on the old series in jest -- "I'm actually a pretty nice guy when I get what I want" -- actually rang true here.

Politics is a dirty business though. But overall this was an outstanding scene.

Best scene of the new series -- and one of the top ten scenes of both series!

I remember watching this and couldn’t help but remember thinking at the time that the way SE’s home looked on the inside should’ve been the look for modernizing the interior of SF, for the new Dallas - classic and traditional yet slightly modernized. The pottery barn style where everything took place in the kitchen wasn’t South Fork.

I know it's for dramatic effect but why would a recovering alcoholic have wine in her house?
@garyg77692 ай бұрын
Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. The temptation is always there, no matter what anyone says, it never goes away. I know. I'm one. I have been dry since 1996. I can handle a glass of Sangria. But the sight of hard liquor is still a temptation to this day. My only defense is to not touch it at all. One drink of whiskey, or anything harder than wine and I will drink the entire bottle and go for a 2nd one. For an alcoholic wine is a safe substitute for an occasional drink. Fortunately I no longer even crave wine. But: put in a situation where drinks are plentiful and at my reach, I have a demon to battle. It takes Herculean resolve not to give in, especially when life throws you a really nasty setback or curveball.

J.R. is always straightforward. You have to give him credit for that.

At least this time JR inadvertently stopped Sue Ellen from starting drinking again and wasn't the cause of it....The writers of the original series were so good, they really let the audience know how each character thought and from the watching the original series I can bet JR new his ex wife was about to or had already picked up a drink. when he was walking in the house....His whole speech that he concluded with "beating the bottle" was nonsense....Just a little probing....
Sue Ellen was a very attractive and smart woman ,JR, almost destroyed her,She deserved much better
