Once JR lost Ewing Oil in 1987, the writers started making JR Ewing a man whose bark is worse than his bite. He started losing one battle after another and morphed into Cliff Barnes. If it wasn’t for JR Ewing, night time soaps would’ve never taken off. So, to dumb him down was a huge slap in the fans’ faces

Larry was the main reason he got dumbed down, I saw an interview somewhere Larry said he had input into the character in the later days and wanted to see him come undone. A good advert for not letting people do jobs there not qualified for, he should have stuck to acting.

@realazduffman6 жыл бұрын
It was a complex set-up. When April was shot, Bobby sold Ewing Oil to a woman from Venezuela, an old GF of JR. (Barb Eden.) To get back at her, she sold Ewing Oil to April's sister for next to nothing. Apri's sister sold half to JR, half to Cliff. Meanwhile. Clayton gave JR the voting proxy for a lot of Weststar stock. So this is where those two guys walked in at the beginning of the clip. JR figured better to be chairman of WS than to share Ewing with Barnes, so he sold his half, shutting him out, forever. But the WS offer was a double-cross by McKay as you see here. The stock JR had the votes for was sold, it was owned by Clayton's crazy sister. Dusty sold it, so JR had no votes to get the WS job. He lost control of Ewing Oil and Weststar in the same afternoon.

great show but stayed around way too long and died a very slow agonizing death.....original casting was spot on...great chemistry....by they got several things just plain WRONG...the who shot jr storyline happened wayyyy to early in S3 and gave them no where else to go but dwn(after,there were challenged to top it)...the sue-ellen divorcing jr happened to early.....she left him end of season 4,divorced him in s5,only to end up back with him by end of season and remarried him mid season 6,in s5 bobby shows up on her door step seeking to adopt her deceased sister child and reminding her that jt cheated with her baby sister...three episodes later the ice had thawed n they were lovey dovey again...in s6 during the reading of jock's will...his lng time trusted/loyal attorney...read aloud jock's expressed wishes that no one but a ewing every own ewing oil....in s14 when the series was rapping for good...bobby comes back frm paris shocked n hurt bc his new wife April was kidnapped,shot & killed while on their honeymoon in paris and announces he is selling ewing oil(this made absolutely no sense cause A) he was present when jock's expressed wishes were read, and B) his trusted/loyal attorney harve was still alive and filed an injunction because jock's expressed wishes were in writting...c) why bother to include that line only to go against it anyway?..and this scene is speaks for its self..on one hand its entertaining bc the master of the set ups is set up...but on the other....the master of the set-ups wld not smell a bullshit set-up like this miles away..these two weststar simps appear in his office out of the blue offering him the ceo spot and like he told his mama in the season finale of s6...i did not force cliff into a deal he did not check n dbl chck....

The company Bobby had and sold was NOT the same company Jock owned. J.R. lost the company at the end of season 10. Bobby was able to get the name back only, thus, Jock's will would not have prevented him from selling it.
@superfirmino13147 жыл бұрын
radrobd it was the same company because JR took back all the assets in exchange for deeds for land which Weststars gasline needed to cross to connect to the main supply.
@radrobd7 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no. Technically, it was a DIFFERENT company. In season 7, Bobby and J.R. stated all of Jock's original oil fields were drying up and they began purchasing new ones. And AFTER Ewing Oil was sold, Jock's will was no longer binding as Ewing Oil ceased to exist at that point. Bobby got the name back a year later, and J.R. got back MOST (but not all) of Ewing Oil's assets. But Jock's will had no control as it wasn't the originally company and had changed hands.

If JR is also short for Jon Ross then his son could be JR jr, i.e JR junior, which is utterly stupid. My name is JR JR , utter bollix. Also Ewing is misprounced. It should be pronounced Eee Wing. Otherwise it should be spelt Youing. Ah bollix to yiz all.
