The stories of child trafficking are shocking. There are over 2 million children around the world that are being trafficked for sex. Ed Smart talks about the link between pornography and sex trafficking.
Child safety advocate and President of the Surviving Parents Coalition, Ed Smart is an internationally recognized advocate for children's safety with particular focus on prevention, protecting children from “abduction, bullying, abuse and sexual assault.” His advocacy began as a result of the abduction and miraculous return of his daughter Elizabeth from their Utah home in 2002. Elizabeth's abduction motivated him to advocate for change in the safety of our children and families.
Since beginning his fight for children, Ed along with other children’s safety advocates tirelessly and successfully lobbied Congress and the Senate seeking passage of the National Amber Alert plan, the Adam Walsh Act, The Protect our children Act of 2008 and currently working cooperatively with other organizations on state felony arrests DNA legislation.
He believes that “It is more important than ever to empower our children to know they have choices to options and to remove their fears and feel safer in their world today.” He is currently program director of rehabilitation and prevention for Operation Underground Railroad OUR.

Elizabeth Smart story is a extremely rare situation. I think it's important not to live our lives in fear of "crazy" people. Most of these situations can be prevented by having parents who are involved and present in their kids lives. We need to watch what kids do online, who they talk to. Monitor their activity and talk openly about the dangers of talking to people they have never met in real life.

+iChase I totally agree. Elizabeth Smart's experience is very rare here in the United States and in Utah. Unfortunately sex trafficking in the United States is growing very rapidly and this will become a much bigger problem, unless everyone is made aware of what is going on. We have become very involved with an organization called Operation Underground Railroad and over the past few weeks we have talked to many people that had no clue how bad sex trafficking has become. I definitely agree with you that parents need to really monitor and watch what their kids are doing. It all starts in the home.
